      @@GoldenEssentials17 You can use this method to make any ribbon. However, if you only want to use a 9” length, you would have to use a ribbon that’s smaller than 3” wide. Otherwise your bow won’t look the same. You can easily see what it would look like by making an awareness symbol with the ribbon you have now. Then bringing the top down and gathering it in the center. Hope this makes sense. You can see an example in my valentines bouquet video. Great tutorial!!! I was just curious though about applying the vinyl onto glitter vinyl. I have been working with all types of vinyl for years now, on bows, shirts, etc. I have NEVER had any luck at all with getting any HTV to stick to glitter unless it is a negative space in the glitter. I also have been told by several other boutique owners and my HTV suppliers that this is not something that is possible for long term use and quality. Yours looks like it works pretty well, I am just curious as to how well that actually hold up for you!? Is there a trick? lol I have tried with multiple brands and several different settings on my heat press. I can sometimes get it to stick but it never lasts long at all. The glitter is just to rough I guess for it to adhere properly. By the way, this bow is amazing! I love it! Thank you for your video and time, so glad I came across this video, it is very informative! :)

    • @RoseOatley
      @RoseOatley  4 года назад +1

      Hi Cassandra! Thank you and Great question!
      I used to have a T-shirt business and worked with vinyl for several years. I never layered glitter on glitter on any of my apparel such as T-shirts, jackets, etc. I used a different method. One of the reasons, is with apparel, you are “washing” these items on a regular basis. However, bows are a little different because most people don’t wash their glitter bows. Bows have been my only exception for layering glitter on glitter. For this bow, I used Gross grain ribbon and Siser easy weed heat transfer glitter vinyl. I have never had a problem. Every single one I’ve made has stayed with no issues thus far. If for any reason, you wash your glitter bows, then I would not layer glitter on glitter but instead do the subtract all method. I’ll also throw in a few other things to look into if your vinyl is not sticking.
      1) pay attention to the ribbon material you use for your bow. Vinyl doesn’t stick to all types of material. I use gross grain for mine.
      2) vinyl has a shelf life. If you are using old vinyl, it won’t stick well. I’ve known some companies that will send their old inventory so keep an eye on that.
      3) your heat press is not getting hot enough or you don’t have enough pressure. Check both on your machine.
      Try testing one out first. If you are still uncomfortable, just do the subtract all method. 😊

      Hello and thank you! 😊. Most of the heat presses Stahls carries are great. You can browse their site. Stahls.com. If you are just starting out and don’t want to spend much, look up heat presses on Amazon. You can find cheap ones for even under $200. I bought mine quite a few years ago through Amazon and it has lasted me a long time. However, it does have a knocking noise that can sometimes get annoying but it’s part of the machine. Although, I’ve gotten used to it, my next heat press would be through Stahls. Maybe one of their Hotronix models. If you can find one with the automatic release handle or one where the top slides to the side, those are nice. 😊

      @RoseOatley  Год назад

      If you heat press your vinyl, you shouldn’t have any problems with it. Just make sure you store it correctly and not in a hot room or direct sunlight. The only spray is the one I mentioned in my video but that’s mostly to keep bows stiff. You really don’t need it when using glitter vinyl on the entire bow, as that alone will stiffen it. Hi cheer coach here and I want to say thank you for the tutorial. The last two years I’ve been making basic plain bows for my team but I want to change that for the upcoming year. I have a few questions, if you could? 1. Could you provide a list of all the equipment, whatever you recommend? 2. Do you have a video of how to make the lettering or the glitter strips? I’m unfamiliar with Cricut or silhouette cutting and HTV? Thank you again! It’s greatly appreciated!

    • @RoseOatley
      @RoseOatley  4 года назад +1

      For Equipment, here’s what I use:
      - Silhouette Cameo 4. This is the cutter that cuts HTV which is heat transfer vinyl (the glitter strips).
      www.amazon.com/dp/B07VLB3627?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share.
      - Heat Press (used to adhère vinyl to your ribbon, shirts, etc): The one I have is no longer available but if you search Amazon for Heat Presses, you can find some there reasonably priced. I recommend you get one that’s at least 15 X 15”.
      If you have the money to spend, you can try Stahls instead. They have nice ones but they are pricier. www.heatpressnation.com/collections/view-all-heat-presses
      This is pretty much the equipment I use. As far as supplies, you can find a list in the description section of my video. Also, if you don’t want to cut your own strips of glitter HTV, you can find some already cut at Cheer Bow Supply, online. I hope this helps! Thanks for watching my videos. Be sure to subscribe. I have a list of videos to make and one of them is how to cut vinyl.

    • @RoseOatley
      @RoseOatley  3 года назад +1

      Hello Tejiri and thank you! I appreciate you watching.
      It really depends on the length of bow you want. If you use 13” on each side, your bow tails will be a lot shorter. Something else to consider is what kind of tails you’re going to want. Will you be leaving the ends straight or will you be cutting a dove tail, like I did in my video. This will shorten up a bit not leaving room for text on the tails. My recommendation would be to play around with one to see how you like it, before cutting multiple pieces.

    I love your work!! But I’m just curious, why not just buy glitter grosgrain ribbon instead of doing it this way? I was thinking maybe you are doing it because you want to use two different colors but what about when it’s one color? I’ve seen people use the vinyl for a black glitter bow but ribbon that has glitter already seems like a easier option.

    • @RoseOatley
      @RoseOatley  4 года назад

      Glitter vinyl is so much prettier, more sparkly and holds up better than your typical glitter grossgrain IMO. It also works great when creating different or specific designs, layering/doing cutouts using both smooth and glitter.

      Without actually seeing it, there’s a couple of things you can try. You can hot glue another hair tie to it and wrap a small piece of similar ribbon around the center like I do in my videos.
      OR If you feel comfortable enough and the bow is held together with a zip tie like most are, you can cut the old zip tie. Just try to hold the center together so you don’t undo it. Then add another zip tie, hair tie and similar center ribbon. Hope it helps! Thanks for watching and good luck!

    For the JM and Cheer decals, etc, did you use more glitter htv or just solid white? I was taught you can't layer solid colors on top of glitter. Only glitter over solid.

    • @RoseOatley
      @RoseOatley  3 года назад +1

      Hi Erynn! Whenever you’re making T-shirts or any apparel you’re going to wash and wear, you definitely don’t want to layer glitter on glitter. Only glitter HTV on smooth HTV. However with bows, it’s an exception. You can layer glitter on glitter just fine. These bows don’t get washed and hold up just fine. If for some reason, the bows you are making are being washed then I don’t recommend it. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!

    • @RoseOatley
      @RoseOatley  3 года назад +1

      Also, just noticed you called them decals. Make sure you don’t use vinyl for decals. It should be HTV (Heat transfer vinyl) on this type of ribbon.

      What If you wanted solid htv on top of the glitter? Will it still hold?

    • @RoseOatley
      @RoseOatley  3 года назад +1

      I have not personally tried it that way. I would think it be a little lumpy and harder to stick.
      If you want to do something like that, I would recommend you use the “subtract all” method instead. That is if you have a silhouette cutter. Not sure what it’s called on a Cricut.

    How would you make a custom colored eagle ? Like a mascot

    • @RoseOatley
      @RoseOatley  4 года назад

      Hello and thank you for watching! You would do this with the editing software you use with your cutter. It really depends on what type of cutter you have and the type of image you have. If you have a silhouette which is what I have, you will need to trace your mascot using the tracing feature. Then you will need to use the subtract all feature to cut out each piece with the appropriate colors you want. I don’t have any software tutorials on my page but I’m sure you’ll be able to find plenty here on RUclips. Hope this helps get you started. If you are not very computer savvy, you can always try Etsy and have someone custom make the file for you.

      Hi Abby! There are different things that can cause this. For example:
