    A quick tip--if you are getting glue strands from the hot glue, blow the bow quickly with a hair dryer. It will cause those strands to shrink right up and disappear. When I was a florist, we did this all the time when we glued in elements to a fresh/silk design or planting.

      LemonBarchie Hi, We purchase all our grograin ribbon on line from ebay sellers, there is an Aussie store called Sarah Lauren who keeps some stock of the 75mm grosgrain in limited colours.

      Hmm ok, might have to order something, I tried with the 66mm ribbon and made a mini bow, which I think I will give to my little cousin who also cheers, might suit her size better than the normal size bows anyway :)

    Hi, I just want to say you're AWESOME! I cant wait to use your bow template, I already use about the same pinching technique, but without the alligator clip(which now I also can't wait to use!lol) I also wanted to give you an easy idea, instead of using the twist ties, try using zip ties, they are so much easier. You can start by just tightening it a little so you can "fluff" the bow to your liking and then pull it all the way tight when it's positioned to your liking. Thanks again for all you do!

      Keri Stanton Hi Keri, Thanks for the great feedback, I have used zip ties before also, you're right the fine ones work really well, my old hands just seem to prefer the twist ties!

      Claudia Acevedo Hi Claudia, Practice really does make perfect here, remember the first fold is backwards then forward to create the first bump, then make the bottom bump, thats 2, then folding the top over makes 3! Watch the video fold part again, I'm sure you'll get it, good luck!

    Hi Lisa! I'd like to start off by saying thank you so much for this video! It's really rare to find people like you who are willing to share such profitable secrets! This is the most helpful video I have found on the Internet and I'm now subscribed to your page as well as your Pinterest account! I have purchased my digital plotter and done a lot of research on cheer bows and criteria, however, I'm wondering if it needs to be a certain type of Lycra? I've found several sites selling spandex and seeing as how I live in New York...it's not difficult to find warehouses that sell this material but some of them show up as cotton lycra, rayon lycra, stretch vinyl, printed/novelty spandex, etc. Does it have to be a specific kind ?
    Thank you in advance!!!

    • @payitforward9442
      @payitforward9442  9 лет назад +4

      +Tracy Cornejo Hi Tracy - Thank you for your kind feedback! I am always excited to hear you can benefit from my shared knowledge. The best Lycra or spandex to use is simply a four way stretch. That can be nylon or rayon. The four way stretch means it folds beautifully! Dance Lycra is usually four way stretch, as is swimwear Lycra. Spandex is just a brand name for Lycra. Cotton Lycra is commonly used for gym wear and is dull and should be avoided, cheer bows should be pretty!
      I hope this helps, thank you so much for your feedback.
      Kindest regards
      Lisa

    Good for you for taking the time to share this info. Those of us that had to figure it out through trial n error wouldve loved this!!!
    I have one question I'm curious about. Why do u use those twisted ties opposed to zip ties? I've used both n have found that the zip ties make the bows last 10 times longer than the twist ties as long as the pony o is put in the zip tie n a lil pie of the 10m ribbon on the pony o where it touches the zip tie. If ya haven't yet, give it a try! Let me know if it works better for ya and again, thank you for sharing your knowledge 😊

    Hi Lisa. Thank you for the awesome tutorial! My daughter's team recently hosted a comp. Using your instructions I made bows for them to wear. They came out beautifully. Like they were made by a professional NOT a mom. I even surprised myself how nice they came out. I made extra to sell and they were gone before lunch. And It's all because of your tutorial. My questions is this... Can the template be used for all sized (length and width) ribbon? I have to make a bow that's less wide 2.5" but the tails are longer. Not exactly sure of the length yet. Will the template work for them as well? Thank you for sharing all your wonderful secrets. :)

    Lisa I love your bows! They are beautiful and beautifully made. I had a question about your Bernzomatic......what kind is it....is it a torch or heat gun? Model number??? If you don't mind me asking ?? Thank you for sharing your awesome talent. Thank you and God bless!

      +Anna Medellin It is a torch and a heat gun, I put the attachment on it that makes it a heat gun for the bows. I think it is the micro torch that we have. (cheapest one) I think we paid $30 from the hardware store.

    Where can I buy all the supplies you used? My craft store doesn't have a lot of the stuff. Do you have a website you might recommend ? Thank you!

    Thank you for your tutorials, they are so helpful. I wanted to ask how you keep your cheer bows stiff?

      Kelly McDonald Hi Kelly, adding the lycra using this method gives you a perfect firm but flexible bow, that is why we use Lycra.

    love your tutorial... only wish I had found this before I finished 35 of the 45 cheer bows I am working on! lol I am curious though.. any reason why you don't use zip ties to hold the ponytail holders in? I have been so paranid about mine coming out, i thought the zip ties would be best, but then i hated using the fabric/ribbon in the centers for the same reason you said you don't wrap your bows.

      Jenn Walker You can use fine zip ties, I just prefer less bulk at the back of the bow, its a personal choice.

    Alexis Kelly You don't say where you are from? Let me know and I will see if I can help, Amazon is pretty good if you are in the USA I get mine from Sullivans here in OZ (fusible web) but you need an ABN to buy from them, hope this helps

    Thank you so much for this tutorial. Before I found this I was struggling horribly to get a bow perfect. I do have a question though about your hair ties. I haven't been able to find the same ones you use in terms of thickness and flatness. I can only seem to find the small rounded ones which snap quite easily. Would you mind telling me where you get yours from? I also located my wood burning tool from riot art and craft and it comes with 8 different heads lol just in case you need more than one ;)

      Hanny Korie Hi, glad to have helped! The hair ties we use are from our local Coles supermarket( Australia) it can be difficult finding the flat style, the best alternative are the rounded thicker style in the larger size.

    Hello! Great video! Any hints on what to do if you have areas where heat and bond does not adhere?? THanks!!

    • @payitforward9442
      @payitforward9442  7 лет назад

      Number 1 is Repress, number 2 is some brands of heat and bond are better than others, sometimes the gluey web comes adrift this usually doesn't affect the finished bow unless it as at the tail end. Tip if you have a sheet of heat and bond that has separated repressing it to itself will adhere the glue web back to its backing paper. Hope this helps.

  • @zigaboo4

    So Happy I found your channel. Thank you so much for all the tips. I was wondering for the tiny cheer teams. Meaning 5-6 year olds that cheer, are their bows the same size as your bow template or are their bows smaller?

    • @payitforward9442
      @payitforward9442  10 лет назад

      luckyinlove888 With our club we tend to think bigger is better and little kids love the very big bows, however if you feel this size is really swamping them a lot of clubs ask for the 2.5 inch (63mm) width ribbon for their little cheerleaders. Another option is to still make the 3 inch bow using my template and cut the tails shorter so they don't sit over their forehead. Hope this helps - Lisa

    have you ever made them with bows smaller than 3 inches wide?/75 cm
