    In 1987 I was living in Fort Worth Texas close to IMC music off East Lancaster..I bought a brand new Charvel Model 5 neck though body with 2 humbuckers..it had the Kahler tremelo on it and it was a really bright Red..it had the pointy jackson style headstock and it was such an awesome guitar..still to this day some of my friends from back then still talk about that guitar..it looked badass and played even better. this is an excellent video.. I also found a USA Jackson Randy Rhoads V back then too at a small shop in White Settlement TX laying on the floor in a case with boxes stacked all over it..it was the student model with the dot inlays and had the Seymour Duncan standard Rhoads set and the genuine Made in Germany Floyd Rose might have been installed on it..not sure if it was original OEM back then?

      I am hoping to get some more tapes. Of the few that were made, it appears barely any survived. There is more to this one, but it is all salesman stuff.

    Charvel always made very high-quality instruments. I played a Holdsworth model in candyapple red for years. It came with an original hand wound JB. To this day it's probably the best sounding, best playing guitar I've ever owned.

    Wow as a Charvel and Jackson player since 1982 this was a real treat! I take it this was the introduction year
    to the toothpaste logo? I was sad to see the old school Charvel guitar shaped logo gone off the head stocks but i understand
    what they are saying from a business standpoint. By 89 a lot of guys went to Kramer or other.
    When Kramer was able to get Edward Van Halen as a endorser as well as a exclusive to the Floyd trem
    they gained a massive user/player base. Many of the previous Charvel guys like lynch went over to Kramer.
    Charvel was the better guitar imho.

      Yeah, as I recall at the time, momentum was gaining for the Jackson line. Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, etc. They attempted to use some of that momentum to push the no longer trendy Charvel brand by making it the discount Jackson line, right down to the style of the logo.
      Naturally they had more success when they finally launched the Jackson branded budget models. Those first couple year import Jackson’s have long been collected and these early toothpaste logoed Charvel’s are just starting to fire up.

      @@guitarcheology Those early 90's Jackson professional series(MIJ) were incredible guitars. Some say as good as the USA made? I played a DK1 and a Soloist XL and they were impressive! They had the real MOP inlays and the workmanship was really good on the ones i tried. for me at the end of the day nothing touches a old original Charvel pre 1984.

    Very interesting. I like the comparisons from the old models to the new. The marketing makes sense but I think the Charvette line was unnecessary. 🍻🎸🎶🎶🎶🎵🎵🎶🎶🎶

      I suspect they needed a line to target the BC Rich Platinum/Kramer Aerostar/Ibanez EX/Cort/Dean Hollywood rock bottom market.

    I had a Kramer Nightswan and found out immediately the stacked Hums sucked. The middle position was useless, and did impede playing.

    Are those Jackson amps and cabs? Do they exist?

    • @guitarcheology
      @guitarcheology  Год назад

      Yeah, they are around. I see more speaker cabs than amp heads. Usually trashed. There was a period of time I was looking for a clean looking pair to add to my Charvel/Jackson collection, but it was hard to find a clean set someone would ship.

    HUGE mistake on the logo change. Ive been playing hair guitar since 1985. My very first guitar was a Model 6. I currently have several Soloists and two Charvels. Changing anything is complete bs. I won't have one.

    Remember Charvette guitars. They had that stupid headstock logo.

  • @eric1649eric
    @eric1649eric 5 месяцев назад

    Nope. They didn’t go to a five way switch because “players” preferred it, it was cheaper. That’s it. Not better. Imo more companies need three switches.

    That huge logo SUCKS. The original version must remain. Like changing the Coke recipe to New Coke. 💩👎
