Hi, I work at Sephora and trained with the NARS reps and you're actually suppose to put the foundations on with you're fingers; it warms Up the foundation and blends out better. Their products are designed to use with your fingers hence why It had applied better with your hands rather than a brush/beauty blender. Also, product would not waste as much when you do it the Narssist way. Before I trained with NARS and used a brush I wasn't that big on it but once I tried their method on it, My opinion quickly changed!

no one ever talks about it because I feel like the fad is like that really heavy, full coverage foundation. I'm more of a natural girl and I'm telling you this foundation is BOMB. light to medium coverage, super light weight, buildable, BEAUTIFUL finish. however, it does cater more to people with like yellow to Olive undertones so if you're more on the cool side, probably wouldn't recommend it.
I used to work in Sephora and a lot of clients would return the NARS all day luminous when it first came out. Saying it didnt give them the coverage they wanted. It would irritate me that they never read the directions. It clearly states to use with your fingers. I would show them with a mini makeover and they changed their mind about returning it. Like Desi, I too would go over with a beauty blender. Looks amazing on the skin!
@@sarasyed9809 I have oily/combo skin and I never had an issue with breakouts from this particular foundation. If you have extra dry skin I would recommend using a gentle exfoliator to remove any dead flaky skin then a light weight moisturizer. The formula in the foundation once its on the skin dries down a bit and could possibly look patchy on the skin without exfoliating and moisturizing beforehand. Another great foundation from Nars would be their Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation. Its a little more moisturizing with about the same coverage. Hope this helps!
The Nars All Day Luminous is my life. I always apply it with a flat top kabuki brush but I'm gonna try it with my fingers more often! I just find finger application so messy!
It's definitely not for everyone! Best for normal-combo or oily skin I think. When my skin was dehydrated in Winter I did find it clung to dry patches more!
Does yours ever separate at the end of day? I love this foundation when I first put it on but by the end of the day it like separates on face...especially my chin. I have tried different primers underneath and still no luck! any suggestions?!
what Estheticians don't actually tell you is that when you have oily skin do not use matte foundation, it dries out the skin more causing A LOT more oils than you want. What you do use is moisturizer with no oils. This will help reduce the oils while giving a natural blockage to your pores and using a primer suited for all skin type not just for oily skin or this will make it worse as well. So ladies matte foundation is NOT good for your skin.
Anna Baker you actually want to use oils to your advantage! Use hydrating oils sparingly on your face as a moisturizer- it makes your face think it's produced enough oil, therefor not producing any more. I've recently started the oil cleansing method for my oily skin and can tell a huge reduction in how oily my skin is overall.

Francois Nars himself says that all the Nars foundations be applied with fingers. Thats the way the products were designed, defs made a difference when I found that out! :D

I really liked the coverage but it applied super weird to my skin it clung to my dry patches and it was very patchy looking. however I tried the Loreal pro glow and it was literally amazing, it was hydrating, full coverage and long lasting:)
My holy grail foundation routine is mixing the Urban Decay naked skin foundation with the urban decay naked skin bb cream. It gives me a flawless coverage without being too matte or dewy!
Carmen Xox I was so excited to use the urban decay foundation, I sampled some at ulta , after I applied a little on my face, it felt like my face was on fire, like a burning sensation, and it hurt so bad. the coverage was nice but obviously I'm allergic to one of the ingredients..:(
I didn't know I had dry skin until I got the L'oReal pro matte foundation. It stays for a long time but it shows dryness like no other. It mixes well with oils though so it works much better for me with a little bit of smashbox primer oil mixed in.
I have super duper oily skin! Literally I wash my face and ten minutes later I'll see oil starting to peak out my pores. I hate it. But so far my favorite foundations (and I've tried most, if not all) are: 1) Hourglass Immaculate Foundation. (Dries to powder finish and has great coverage) also has skin treatment 2) Clinique acne solutions foundation (this is my everyday wear type of foundation) 3) my least favorite is the Kat Von D, love the foundation, just a bit too cakey on me.
OH!!! And I almost forgot!!! Another favorite foundation is the Maybelline Better Skin foundation! Works great for my oily skin and doesn't feel like my skin is suffocating! It feels very lightweight!
But try using a toner and gel moisturizer on your T-Zone. This has improved it a lot for me. Honestly, oil is always going to appear nothing will completely prevent it just some products hold off longer than others. I think the longest my face went without being shiny is 9 hours and I was really impressed with that lol! But for sure try switching to a gel moisturizer and toner!
I had very oily skin too a couple months ago but I recently started using Trilogy rose hip oil after I wash my face I use it before going to bed and girl my skin is not oily at all anymore !!
Hey Desi! Great video. Curious to know what Nars concealer shade you use? I'm also the shade Syracuse in the Nars foundation (Sheer Glow however) and I'm clueless as to which concealer to choose-- Ginger or Biscuit. Any tips on choosing the right concealer shade? I've noticed the trend is to go for "lighter" concealer to give that subtle brightening effect but I'm guilty of having gone too light and now I'm just stuck. I had that same problem with the NARS foundation. But I recently discovered I love it as a mixer into other foundations I use!my current holy grail combo is the L'Oréal pro matte as my base and put the smallest pea size amount of the NARS on each side of my face blend it with a kabuki for full coverage and then bounce the beauty blender on my skin like there's no tomorrow just to make sure I don't look cakey and everything looks flawless and I'm telling you it's everything 👏🏼
I wasn't initially happy with the NARS All Day Luminous Foundation, but after watching your video, I tried it again by applying with my hands and OMG GIRL it looks so much better this way! Thank you for the tip, Desi!!!
I have very oily skin and I tried the Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow foundation and I really loved it. I thought it had such a pretty, healthy finish and lasted all day. I did set my face with a powder because my skin does collect so much oil. But overall, I loved the foundation and would recommend it for other oily skinned people as well.
Oooo I've always wanted to try this foundation but never thought it could work for my crazy oily skin! I'm totally gonna try it out and maybe play with what powders I use to set. Tysm!!
I tried it on a whim after the benefit brow guy tried it on me and I was in love with it. I am on my second bottle but I really love that a little goes a long way. I am also oily but I don't like looking matte and I really love that it lasts for most of the day. I do "bake" but only on my nose and just lightly set because I love the finish it gives. It is a contender to be my wedding day foundation!

Desi I have combination/oily skin and I also love the maybelline matte and poreless! It's my favorite, even compared to my high end foundations. Have you tried the Covergirl ready set gorgeous? You need to... That's another great drugstore foundation I think you'd also love. Very underrated in my opinion !

+eyerus it's really nice and smooth, really blendable, and it's got nice buildable medium coverage. I use a beauty sponge to apply. I am not really impressed with Covergirl foundations because they seem to oxidize and change color, but this one doesn't (on me). The shade range is a little sparse, so I have to mix 2 shades to get a perfect match. It also runs just a tad pink (undertone). I am olive, but when I mix to 2 shades I need, it balances out just fine. ❤️

I LOVE the Nars All Day Luminous Weightless foundation. It say to use fingers for application on the package, but I know a lot of people hate doing that. I like fingers first and then using a brush or beauty blender to do some final blending. It's a beautiful foundation! I wish I had the right shade for my winter color.
They sure don't, which is unfortunate. I use Lancome Miracle Cushion Foundation in 500 Suede W and it is absolutely gorgeous! It will have you snatched and people will stop you on the street to talk to you about it...lol!
+eyerus The Miracle Cushion is the newer one they came out with in 2015. I also use Lancome's Teint Idole in the same shade. I have normal to dry skin. I have a really difficult time finding foundations usually because they're too yellow. I have the Makeup Forever stick foundation that I'm going to try. It would be nice if I could find another foundation so I can switch it up sometimes :-)
I have very dry skin and I use the matte and poreless maybelline fit me foundation, and it's my go to!! I've found that as long as I keep up with my skincare regime which includes some very hydrating products, I never have a problem with it clinging to dry patches or emphasizing texture. I've been using it daily for about 2 months and for the price, it is absolutely amazing!! I apply with a damp real techniques sponge and after I set it, I use dermablend loose powder, it'll stay flawless all day!
Nars foundations are designed to be applied with your hands, the makeup artists at nars apply it that way. Thats why you would of seen amazing results !
I am so happy someone that is popular in the makeup vlogs finally mentioned bare minerals foundation powder. I love that powder I've been using the pro for a couple months since it came out and the original pressed one for years!!
I have oily skin and the benefit foundation didn't really work for me. First it oxides a lot and I'm very pale and by the end of the day my face is a different colour to my neck, also I find it breaks up a little around my chin and nose where I'm most oily. It also doesn't help at all to keep the oil at bay! It transfers like crazy if you don't set your whole face also. £27 down the drain!!
+DreaB. Mac studio fix works for me, although it's a little heavy and full coverage I still wear it on a day to day basis because I don't have the best skin. Also I just got the ex1 invisiwear foundation after seeing Patrick starr feature it in his monthly favourites, I've only been using it for about a week but love it so far!

I have combination skin. dry in some areas especially my nose but oily on my forehead and chin. The NARS foundation is beautiful BUT it settles into every single pore and fine line on my face, especially my smile lines! easily buildable to full coverage though without being cakey. I just have to make sure I set it with powder or mix it with another foundation. The infallible pro-matte foundation, for me, is seriously amazing! Like it's not budging all day! since I have dry skin in areas, it can feel a little tight, but not uncomfortable. I definitely will continue to wear it over and over! Hope this helps!
My ride or die is MUFE mat velvet. I know it's old BUT with a beauty blender ........ HUNTY! You can get sheer. You can get medium. You can get full. I meannnnn the possibilities are endless!!! I use it for pool days to evening events. It looks flawless in pictures and looks like skin in person. I'm a foundation junky and have yet to find another foundation that is so flexible. Also it's the only foundation (I'm talking drugstore and high end ) that I can wear every single day and not get a single pimple from it. NADA!!! Love you desi!
Holy grail is Estee Lauder double wear its the only foundation ive EVER used that doesnt transfer. Looks so beautiful thought i cant buy it anymore because Estee tests on animals 👎🏽

Just go to Sephora hunn, and you can get your right color match just ask one of the people working there and they will tell you the right color foundation for you
You can ask the Sephora employees to match it to your neck😊 I did because for some reason it was giving me a whole 2 shades darker for my face because they scanned my forehead (I have slightly darker skin on my forehead) Also the lights in there make the color matching more difficult. I swatch a few shades I think will match me from whatever foundation(s) I'm interested in on my chest/neck and walk around to see if they oxidize. I get crazy looks from people but I don't even care lol I take it off with the makeup remover and cotton pads they have in store 😂 hope it helps you out!
I was looking for a new foundation and the lady at Benefit gave me a little sample of the Hello Flawless. I honestly never really thought of going to Benefit for foundations (I'm more a Mac, Stila or YSL girl) but I was at Benefit for a brow makeover and she just gave me one to try. I was so pleasantly surprised because it made my skin look flawless and dewy. I do have pretty good skin, so the natural coverage was perfect for me (my skin but better). It didn't make my face look cakey at all (hate that) and it applied really easily. Nice timing seeing it on your list, Desi! Love your work x
so sad you didn't mention in what shade you are with the Estee Lauder. Btw, I set my estee lauder with translucent powder and there is no flashback, not with my dslr, not with my iphone, I just love it.
I noticed a major flashback with it.. I thought it was just a bad match to my skin but then I read reviews stating it was the flashback. Still love it though!
I've noticed that there has been a formula change with the Esteé Lauder Double Wear foundation. A couple of months/years ago, the formula had SPF 15. If you purchase one now, it contains no SPF and instead of 15 hour wear, it claims to be 24 hour wear. I've only ever used the current 24-hour-no-SPF formula and there is absolutely no flashback. Maybe the old formula had flashback but I've had no issues with it.
Honestly probably the MOST helpful foundation video out of all the beauty gurus... (Yes, I just went binging lol) Mostly because you listed foundations with different coverages and finishes. I feel like most beauty gurus go straight to full coverage because they love that glam, perfect MAKEUP look but a lot of people don't!
I had dry/normal skin and I've used the Loreal pro matte, maybelline matte & pore less and the studio fix. I just to use a hydrating primer and it works good. Studio fix would be my favourite out of the three
+Johanna Maribel use a really good moisturizer before hand and then a good hydrating primer I would say the make up forever step 1 in hydrating or the nourishing I love both. Depends on how dry my skin is that day. The smashbox hydrating is good one as well. A drugstore primer is the Loreal lumi or Milani hydrating /pore minimizing one . Luminizing primers are the becca backlight or nyx one I forgot the name. I use any of these primers when I'm using a matte foundation. Just in case you needed options ! Hope it helped

I know some can be heavy, BUT DO THEY LOOK GOOD though??? Im not wearing foundation to make my face feel great. If you don't want stuff on your face don't fucking wear a proper foundation! Rant over
Terrance Xu it isn't a heavy formula but i'm oily and i hated NARS ADLW. i got so oily by the end of the day and i could feel it on my face, somehow it felt dry and oily at the same time. everyone's skin reacts differently to foundation but i admire your passion, lol.
Hi Guys, I just bought the Nars all day luminous foundation (I've been using Lancôme and MAC studio fix Since I'm oily at the Tzone and dry to normal on the rest of my face) and it's amazing. The lady at the NARS store also warned me to apply it with my fingers so that seems to be the trick there. It's full coverage and needs to be set as it is a water based foundation. Thanks Desi

I've used Estee Lauder's Double Wear for years. i've tried so many drugstore and high end foundations, but I like the way Double Wear lasts all day and still gives that flawless coverage. On my skin type, it never have sunk into pores.
Nars foundations are supposed to be applied with the fingertips so the product warms and melts into the skin with the warmth of your skin! They are such beautiful products! Loved this video desi! Xx
I absolutely love your nude lipstick 😍😍😍 I have the Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation and honestly it didn't show in flash photography that much that it makes your face completely white. However, I do have a love-hate relationship with it in the sense that it makes my T-zone look extremely oily throughout the day no matter if I set it with powder or not. what I use is a quite expensive moisturizer called tidal, but as far as drugstore I do not know they all broke me out. I'm sorry

L'Oreal now has a pro glow foundation which is just like the pro matte except for a glow, it's probably better for dry skin.

Loreal pro matte is perfect for oily skin. With dry skin you want to avoid matte foundations.

Seriously!! You'll moisturize and then put it on and omg dry patches, not a good thing. I returned it lol

I have super duper oily skin! Literally I wash my face and ten minutes later I'll see oil starting to peak out my pores. I hate it. But so far my favorite foundations (and I've tried most, if not all) are: 1) Hourglass Immaculate Foundation. (Dries to powder finish and has great coverage) also has skin treatment 2) Clinique acne solutions foundation (this is my everyday wear type of foundation) 3) my least favorite is the Kat Von D, love the foundation, just a bit too cakey on me.
OH!!! And I almost forgot!!! Another favorite foundation is the Maybelline Better Skin foundation! Works great for my oily skin and doesn't feel like my skin is suffocating! It feels very lightweight!
I felt the same way about KVD. I got a sample at Sephora and it dried me up and made my skin feel tight and lifeless.
But try using a toner and gel moisturizer on your T-Zone. This has improved it a lot for me. Honestly, oil is always going to appear nothing will completely prevent it just some products hold off longer than others. I think the longest my face went without being shiny is 9 hours and I was really impressed with that lol! But for sure try switching to a gel moisturizer and toner!
I had very oily skin too a couple months ago but I recently started using Trilogy rose hip oil after I wash my face I use it before going to bed and girl my skin is not oily at all anymore !!

Hey Desi! Great video. Curious to know what Nars concealer shade you use? I'm also the shade Syracuse in the Nars foundation (Sheer Glow however) and I'm clueless as to which concealer to choose-- Ginger or Biscuit. Any tips on choosing the right concealer shade? I've noticed the trend is to go for "lighter" concealer to give that subtle brightening effect but I'm guilty of having gone too light and now I'm just stuck. The NARS All-Day Luminous is made to be applied with the hands :) that's how the NARS makeup artists apply it.

I had that same problem with the NARS foundation. But I recently discovered I love it as a mixer into other foundations I use!my current holy grail combo is the L'Oréal pro matte as my base and put the smallest pea size amount of the NARS on each side of my face blend it with a kabuki for full coverage and then bounce the beauty blender on my skin like there's no tomorrow just to make sure I don't look cakey and everything looks flawless and I'm telling you it's everything 👏🏼
Wore the NARS for my prom and it did not budge at all! I have combination skin and I did a lot of partying. It's one of my holy grail foundations!

I have very oily skin and I tried the Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow foundation and I really loved it. I thought it had such a pretty, healthy finish and lasted all day. I did set my face with a powder because my skin does collect so much oil. But overall, I loved the foundation and would recommend it for other oily skinned people as well.

I tried it on a whim after the benefit brow guy tried it on me and I was in love with it. I am on my second bottle but I really love that a little goes a long way. I am also oily but I don't like looking matte and I really love that it lasts for most of the day. I do "bake" but only on my nose and just lightly set because I love the finish it gives. It is a contender to be my wedding day foundation!

Desi I have combination/oily skin and I also love the maybelline matte and poreless! It's my favorite, even compared to my high end foundations. Have you tried the Covergirl ready set gorgeous? You need to... That's another great drugstore foundation I think you'd also love. Very underrated in my opinion !

I just got it and I love it! The ready set gorgeous! My holy grail is pro matte and I just tried Almay truly lasting color and holy crap it's good!
+eyerus it's really nice and smooth, really blendable, and it's got nice buildable medium coverage. I use a beauty sponge to apply. I am not really impressed with Covergirl foundations because they seem to oxidize and change color, but this one doesn't (on me). The shade range is a little sparse, so I have to mix 2 shades to get a perfect match. It also runs just a tad pink (undertone). I am olive, but when I mix to 2 shades I need, it balances out just fine. ❤️

Yes the all day luminous is meant to be applied with fingers because NARS doesn't sell a complexion brush! :) it looks way better with hands
I LOVE the Nars All Day Luminous Weightless foundation. It say to use fingers for application on the package, but I know a lot of people hate doing that. I like fingers first and then using a brush or beauty blender to do some final blending. It's a beautiful foundation! I wish I had the right shade for my winter color.

They sure don't, which is unfortunate. I use Lancome Miracle Cushion Foundation in 500 Suede W and it is absolutely gorgeous! It will have you snatched and people will stop you on the street to talk to you about it...lol!

I have a really difficult time finding foundations usually because they're too yellow. I have the Makeup Forever stick foundation that I'm going to try. It would be nice if I could find another foundation so I can switch it up sometimes :-)

I have very dry skin and I use the matte and poreless maybelline fit me foundation, and it's my go to!! I've found that as long as I keep up with my skincare regime which includes some very hydrating products, I never have a problem with it clinging to dry patches or emphasizing texture. I've been using it daily for about 2 months and for the price, it is absolutely amazing!! I apply with a damp real techniques sponge and after I set it, I use dermablend loose powder, it'll stay flawless all day!

Nars foundations are designed to be applied with your hands, the makeup artists at nars apply it that way. Thats why you would of seen amazing results !
I am so happy someone that is popular in the makeup vlogs finally mentioned bare minerals foundation powder. I love that powder I've been using the pro for a couple months since it came out and the original pressed one for years!!
I have oily skin and the benefit foundation didn't really work for me. First it oxides a lot and I'm very pale and by the end of the day my face is a different colour to my neck, also I find it breaks up a little around my chin and nose where I'm most oily. It also doesn't help at all to keep the oil at bay! It transfers like crazy if you don't set your whole face also. £27 down the drain!!

+DreaB. Mac studio fix works for me, although it's a little heavy and full coverage I still wear it on a day to day basis because I don't have the best skin. Also I just got the ex1 invisiwear foundation after seeing Patrick starr feature it in his monthly favourites, I've only been using it for about a week but love it so far!

im the same shade as her in all the ones she mentioned. i have both Shell Beige (N) and Honey Bronze (W).
I have combination skin. dry in some areas especially my nose but oily on my forehead and chin.
The NARS foundation is beautiful BUT it settles into every single pore and fine line on my face, especially my smile lines! easily buildable to full coverage though without being cakey. I just have to make sure I set it with powder or mix it with another foundation.
The infallible pro-matte foundation, for me, is seriously amazing! Like it's not budging all day! since I have dry skin in areas, it can feel a little tight, but not uncomfortable. I definitely will continue to wear it over and over! Hope this helps!
My ride or die is MUFE mat velvet. I know it's old BUT with a beauty blender ........ HUNTY! You can get sheer. You can get medium. You can get full. I meannnnn the possibilities are endless!!! I use it for pool days to evening events. It looks flawless in pictures and looks like skin in person. I'm a foundation junky and have yet to find another foundation that is so flexible. Also it's the only foundation (I'm talking drugstore and high end ) that I can wear every single day and not get a single pimple from it. NADA!!! Love you desi!

You can ask the Sephora employees to match it to your neck😊 I did because for some reason it was giving me a whole 2 shades darker for my face because they scanned my forehead (I have slightly darker skin on my forehead) Also the lights in there make the color matching more difficult. I swatch a few shades I think will match me from whatever foundation(s) I'm interested in on my chest/neck and walk around to see if they oxidize. I get crazy looks from people but I don't even care lol I take it off with the makeup remover and cotton pads they have in store 😂 hope it helps you out!

I was looking for a new foundation and the lady at Benefit gave me a little sample of the Hello Flawless. I honestly never really thought of going to Benefit for foundations (I'm more a Mac, Stila or YSL girl) but I was at Benefit for a brow makeover and she just gave me one to try. I was so pleasantly surprised because it made my skin look flawless and dewy. I do have pretty good skin, so the natural coverage was perfect for me (my skin but better). It didn't make my face look cakey at all (hate that) and it applied really easily. Nice timing seeing it on your list, Desi! Love your work x

I noticed a major flashback with it.. I thought it was just a bad match to my skin but then I read reviews stating it was the flashback. Still love it though!
I hated double wear... It just emphasized my texture and made my skin look so dry... I wish I liked it but I just didn't :(
I've noticed that there has been a formula change with the Esteé Lauder Double Wear foundation. A couple of months/years ago, the formula had SPF 15. If you purchase one now, it contains no SPF and instead of 15 hour wear, it claims to be 24 hour wear. I've only ever used the current 24-hour-no-SPF formula and there is absolutely no flashback. Maybe the old formula had flashback but I've had no issues with it.

Honestly probably the MOST helpful foundation video out of all the beauty gurus... (Yes, I just went binging lol) Mostly because you listed foundations with different coverages and finishes. I feel like most beauty gurus go straight to full coverage because they love that glam, perfect MAKEUP look but a lot of people don't!

I had dry/normal skin and I've used the Loreal pro matte, maybelline matte & pore less and the studio fix. I just to use a hydrating primer and it works good. Studio fix would be my favourite out of the three

+Johanna Maribel use a really good moisturizer before hand and then a good hydrating primer I would say the make up forever step 1 in hydrating or the nourishing I love both. Depends on how dry my skin is that day. The smashbox hydrating is good one as well. A drugstore primer is the Loreal lumi or Milani hydrating /pore minimizing one . Luminizing primers are the becca backlight or nyx one I forgot the name. I use any of these primers when I'm using a matte foundation. Just in case you needed options ! Hope it helped

Oily skin， love the Nars all day foundation. I have learnt to not trust any Sephora reviews on foundations, especially those complaining "too cakey" "too heavy". I know some can be heavy, BUT DO THEY LOOK GOOD though??? Im not wearing foundation to make my face feel great. If you don't want stuff on your face don't fucking wear a proper foundation! Rant over
Terrance Xu it isn't a heavy formula but i'm oily and i hated NARS ADLW. i got so oily by the end of the day and i could feel it on my face, somehow it felt dry and oily at the same time. everyone's skin reacts differently to foundation but i admire your passion, lol.

I've used Estee Lauder's Double Wear for years. i've tried so many drugstore and high end foundations, but I like the way Double Wear lasts all day and still gives that flawless coverage. On my skin type, it never have sunk into pores.
