The town name comes from an apple orchard Rogers planted. After being attacked and run out of the area by Indians, the apple orchard lived about 150yrs, hence Old Orchard. The town was incorporated in 1883. Today the population is about 9000. Old Orchard Beach is a vacation destination for many vacationers, including nearby Canadians. It's is a bustling town for about 8wks out of the year, during Summertime. The town has a variety of restaurants, ice cream shops, pizza, and an amusement park. There are hundreds of hotel rooms, motels and cottages within walking distance of the ocean. There's even an RV park within a half mile of the Old Orchard Beach Pier.
