If Mauga was gay with Bap why would he respond like that? Its clear that its a friendship betrayal thing. He'd probably be more sentimental if otherwise.
Unless Mauga is bisexual, he already has a thing for Mercy given those interactions.

Which is very clear through both his character animation i.e the short that released alongside him, and his in game interactions.
He's not dumb, but when given a choice, Mauga is the type to bulldoze his way forward until the desired outcome is achieved.
Mauga has been trying to convince Bap to come back and has been surprisingly chill about doing so, but we gotta remember that he's just as willing to force Bap to return as well. Unfortunately for Bap, kidnapping is an equally viable option, one that's already worked once lol. And that first kidnapping was pretty hectic tbh.
Magua is literally characterized as being vicious and ruthless
Theres also an interaction where Mauga asks Sombra to find Bap, and she replies "You're bad for him in all the ways that count", or something along those lines
