It's so funny ,clarence looks exactly the same in every video. His form and clothes never change. If I didnt know better I would think people are just copy pasting him into things
Imagine Clarence doing a pause squat for a really long time, only to turn his head really slowly towards you and whisper in your ear: “Do you need a spot.”
I absolutely LOVE bench. My new coach has dropped my weightlifting to three times a week. I strength train one time a week and do "accessories only" one day a week. I've come so far in just a few weeks.
I just switched to a powerlifting style hypertrophy block for (at least) a month from my regular weightlifting plan und i really had to think about this video an what Steffi Cohen said. My bench during my 1RM test was 2-3 kilos below my snatch and i do think that`s what holding me back from Snatching my desired 100+kg, is overall upper body strength. Thanks Zack.
Wait... did she just say... did she just say that her experience is not the definitive truth? You know you've found a good trainer (and likely person) when they're humble and aren't afraid to contextualise. Contexualiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiise, man!
She's not using the best words to describe her thoughts. Does she mean everything has some sort of carryover and one shouldn't focus on just a few exercises?
@@6subswith0vids80 She means things can have a carryover out of the sport specificity. A power clean can help a football athlete, even if he's not power cleaning in the field. Same with weightlifting. Many different things can be used as accessory to a weightlifter other than variations of the classic lifts and back/front squats.
Weightlifting literally SAVED my life. As you can see I have a comment here from 4 years ago. I went from 40KG clean and jerk at a bodyweight of 160 lbs FAT to now a 140 KG clean and jerk and 110 KG snatch at 160 lbs 10% BF. My body MORPHED. The strength the power I have is unbelievable. It's ALL in the legs man.. I can jump so high fucking run so fast it feels amazing and have succeeded carry over TREMENDOUSLY in other sports like boxing and track and field. Olympic weightlifting NEEDS to be taught CORRECTLY from straight fundementals to ALL children who want to become athletes in the future. There's no better exersize than that works your entire posterior chain and prob every muscle in your body in one or 3 movements.... Weightlifting for life!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Of course there will be some 'crossover' with non sport specific training, the question should be what training provides the greatest amount of 'crossover' for improved performance. Everything requires time and effort, your focus as a coach should be what training will develop the athlete most
"if you get better as an athlete you get better as a weight lifter" I always heard it the other way as coaches say "teams win games in the lifting room"
It’s interesting because before Weightlifting and powerlifting became what they are today, a lot of people who pursued lifting weights also did bench and strict press. Let’s not forget also that the clean and Press was a lift before 1972
Which was the only reason weightlifters benched and pressed a lot. Once clean and press was taken out in the competition, snatch and clean and jerk numbers just exploded exponentially.
I think it's the latter. Cut the number of lifts by a third and the removed lifts all have a pure strength component. You're bound to see improvement on the remaining lifts. @@Jmack7861
Clarence Is Such A Beast. Watching Him Work Out Is So Impressive And Inspirational. He's Prolly My Favorite Weightlifter To Watch Put In Work. I Think The Thing That Gets Me The Most About Him Is His "Standard" Routine. You Don't See A Lot Of Americans Snatching And Clean And Jerking, It Seems It's Mostly Either Body Building Routines Or Light General Overall Body Routines To Tone, Rather That Putting On Mass, When It Comes To The General Public. Which Makes Sense Because That's What Clarence Does, Olympic Lifts. Stefi Is Also One Of Those People Who Is Crazy And Inspirational To Watch. She's SOO Strong And Quick When It Comes To Her Lifts. I'm Not That Familiar With Zack, But I Can Say That He's Surrounding Himself With Great People. I Look Forward To Seeing What He's Capable Of. Great Video.
She's got a point, and I like the approach with changing things up but concerning like the transfer of strength training to the actual sport I don't think you should just throw shit at the wall and hope for something to stick. Things such as coordination patterns etc. should be considered when programming for sports such as football, rugby, track, whatever. Yes a clean is going to make a player stronger and perhaps some of it will transfer to the game but something like a single leg RDL into a clean with a waterbag will provide a better movement problem for the athlete to solve in order to apply to the demands of the game. Also Klokov, Harry Potter, Stefi and that dude who played the Ents in LOTR all in one video, holy smokes.
Zack, could you provide any insight into how Stefi remains so technically proficient with oly lifts despite her training frequency being(seemingly) low? Is she just that much of a phenom?
Hey Zack, is there any supertotal programs you would recommend? I feel like there are lots of people interested in supertotal training but not enogh content. Thanks
Honest question: why benching? Why not just weighted dips? To me it's a great 2 for 1 - mobility of the shoulder and strength. It does tend to be very triceps dominant, so that's all I can guess
The problem is not whether or not a power clean has carryover in football. The biggest problem is honestly how these strong talented athletes are being TAUGHT how to do a power clean and NOT learning how to do a full clean as well. “Carry over” all you want, but good god, get a weightlifter to teach these kids how to power clean/clean-not some washed up Coach or “trainer”.

Zack benching talking upper body strength ...Clarence over there thinking "Yer filthy peasents, not even 200kg, ye?!"
Clarence cleaning with straps. Call WADA.
