Thank you so much for this and all of your videos. I wish more people in this comment section would just enjoy a literal slice of life from 100 years ago and not feel the need to analyze or project their own expectations or biases onto what is just a document of daily life, no more no less but completely fascinating and beautiful. Greetings from Florida. Thanks again. I love this.
Lovely film again Rick. I start to feel relaxed from the beginning of the film with the soothing music. A simple but happy life is the impression l get watching the slower pace of the people going about their everyday lives.
grandmothers and great-grandmothers and great-great-grandmothers, grandfathers and great-grandfathers and great-great-grandfathers, and not in a grave photo, or in a photo during life, but walking around doing something ... the clothes of the house of the river sails of those times all this is impressive, the time machine is simple, it's a pity the cinema was not invented earlier in the 17th century or earlier. I envy the descendants in 100-300 years they will be able to see us and others as living ... thanks for the work of the channel
Now we can see the source and reason of exceptional seamanship of the Dutch. Kudos to this industrious "small" nation of most capable seafarers among other things.
Beautiful footage, there is a lot also to be seen about Volendam, I recognize parts of Volendam since i have lived there for about 15 years. At 1.53...you see for example the liitle street called Meerzijde....just beautiful to see! Keep up the great work!
Extraordinary films, Rick. Great job of restoring them. It’s so interesting to see how people of the Netherlands lives 100+ years ago. The women’s clothing is most interesting and those headdresses or bonnets are amazing. Thank you.
I am an Englishman living in rural Brittany. My Breton neighbour Claude was wearing clogs right up to his sad passing in 2010. My house is well known here as it is the remains of a Manoir which was a safehouse during the revolution, But more recently a French Resistance safehouse for British Parachutist's. I met the mother of and all six children who were born in this very kitchen during the occupation. The family shared photos of them going to the village on a horse and cart in the 1970's dressed in traditional clothes.. To my British eyes it looked like a colour photo from the 1870's!!!

Mooie beelden!
Spend vacation there with friend of my father name Kes, it was a nice place before it got connected with the main land, lots of smoked eel which my father 's friend did him self.
Helemaal in kleur.
It's a great question, really. What would anyone from the past say about now? Especially considering how historical figures or ideas linger in public view. How would one react to one's self in a movie, made 100 years after the fact?
you dont know that. You can't read people's minds nor do you have a crystal ball that can predict what others' opinions are or were. I live near the Amish. They do not use electricity, cars, phones, computers, etc...they dress simply and work all day...yet have an amazing, happy, joy and love-filled existence and an incredibly resilient community around them. Stop pushing the false narrative that the simple, rural life is HARD AND HORRIBLE. The simple life of valuing family, living according to the timeline and pace of nature, producing your own food, is a rich and rewarding life. Living surrounded by concrete, going to your car, parking lot to parking lot, staring at a phone, eating processed food you did not grow yourself, allowing media to dictate your thoughts and beliefs...that is horrible in the opinion of many.
