yeah how do I not make that Formula go down all cells. like I have a sheet where I want to sum just specific cells and not have the formula go down the whole page. I only want the formula in 1 cell.

Use the SUM function for a specific range. Another way is to give a name for your desired range by selecting your range then going to Name Box and giving a name for the selected range. Then you can use the SUM formula or any other formula to call this range using this Name. For example, if you give a name "Sales" to the range C1:C10.
To get SUM range you can write the formula =SUM(Sales).

The #spill error has made the A1:A8 function worthless in most cases I would like to use it. Very frustrating. And of course, videos such as this are worthless.

Try to Excel online with browser. if that doesn't resolve the issue in this case try to uninstall MS Office desktop app then install again.

"Select obstructing cells" is greyed out in my Excel so I cant select it

If "Select obstructing cells" option is not active it means there is no merged cells in projected spilled array and there is another reason for #Spill error.
