      i agree with most of what you said except 1 and 5. the world is already pretty detailed on release considering they're still adding patches to this day, with the amount of traversal you can do you can spend hours just running around and not get bored at least imo. the night time in dl2 is waaaay scarier than dl1. in dl1's late game you can basically two shot volatiles that i didn't mind going on chases cause i knew i had no chance of dying unless i fell. in dl2 even if you're max level you'd still wanna avoid chase level 3 and 4 cause a single volatile pounce leads to a chain cc that's hard to escape without UV shit

      3 - what's the point of triggering a chase level 4 if you're gonna end it right away. dragging it along for the multiplier is the hard part. you clearly don't know how to play the game. of course it's easy when you're playing on piss easy mode.

  • @volatilelyle5170
    @volatilelyle5170 Год назад +7

    My main gripes with the game is that they changed stuff that didn't need to be changed compared to the first game.
    -Volatiles dont patrol the streets anymore.
    -The overwhelming focus on living people instead of making the infected the real threat.
    -The fact that night time is extremely safe. You have to go out of your way to make is threatening.
    -Chases dont happen naturally. They come down to Howlers spotting you... even if you kill them before they scream, the chase still happens. I assume because they spot you so the chase happens automatically.
    -The chase is like a GTA wanted level. You dont get volatiles until chase level 3. Which is dumb.
    -The enemies that tie into the level system. Instead of new skills allowing you to kill zombies in different ways, you just level up and brute force your way past them. In the first game, you had to rely on your environment a lot at the start. In DL2, you are either very over levelled for old areas or too under levelled for new areas which gives the game an artificial barrier. Its not to make it difficult, it is to block the play from exploring where they want to without instantly dying. Also, shooting someone in the head and them either not instantly dying... especially them taking little damage is stupid. So stealth is basically pointless in this game.
    -NO WEAPON CRAFTING - This was a massive sin. You had to buy weapons instead of scavenging parts and creating new stuff.

    It might just be me, but I totally disagree about the soundtrack. The darkish synth made DL1 much more scary and mysterious, whereas I felt the soundtrack in DL2 was always really uplifting and joyful. An example is the VNC tower mission in DL2 and the DL1 mission, where you climb the antenna tower, to save the city from being firebombed. The missions are pretty much identical and are both supposed to be these near-impossible tasks, but in DL2 the music suddenly gets super uplifting and cheerful, completely forgetting that Aiden was just screaming for help over the radio. It really didn't seem to fit the situation in my opinion.

  • @TrickyJebus

    I pretty much agree with almost everything you said except the stealth part. because Stealth is USELESS (they could've done it in a way where a story consequence happens or you'll get a different ending if you fail a stealth segment)
    You probably forgot to add the difficulty talking point. but my opinion there is that its TOO EASY. idk if techland is trying to be TOO accessible but they gave us a choice to make it hard. so why isnt it hard? Anyway, playing this immediately on hard blind, I thought it would be as hard as DL1 at night but the only thing that's hard in DL2 is when a group of volatiles are fighting you at the SAME TIME.
    Plus this game has a lot of OP stuff in it. The crossbow and the maxxed out UV flashlight for example.
    if you have lets say a crossbow though, it makes fighting a group of volatiles TOO easy now. Plus if you have the maxxed out UV flashlight you can melee the volatiles one on one. And since the Volatiles are the only challenge this game offers, it just disappoints me how its gotten too easy.
    This also is added to the fact that the AI is really stupid at times. You can exploit the UV flashlight zones during Chases at nights and just Farm the Virals and Volatiles while using the UV flashlight zones as cover and as a way to repeat the chase. Volatiles start appearing at Chase 3 and 4. So if you just want to farm trophies like Uncommons or Rares, just exploit the AI and use the Howlers to restart the chase. Kill zombies until Chase 2 ends then go to the UV zone to restart the chase. go to a howler. and repeat.
    Also you forgot to mention that dying in this game is not a problem at all. you dont lose anything. you dont lose progress. some can use it as a way to switch from day or night. or to teleport to safezone.

    As a longtime Romero fan (Day of the dead above anything) I found in DL1 perfection as a zombie game. Amazing gameplay, great level design, the world is breathing and every corner tells you a story of things gone wrong. 80s style arpeggiated synths and incredible sound design enhance the atmosphere even further. Story it's not ground breaking but I found it quite enjoyable, like a "cheap comic book style story that it's really entertaining". Now I played DL2 and I don't really like it. Why? Gameplay it's even better, funny as hell, graphics are amazing (raytraced lighting it's gorgeous) sound design is top notch. So why I don't like it like DL1? Atmosphere. While some locations on the map are very good and inspired, I find DL2 world sort of "bland, cliched post apocaliptic generic world" in total contrast with the charismatic, exotic, windy Harran. Story is maybe more complex but less engaging, and music... Well some track are ok I guess but nothing sticks in my head as "incredibly cool".

  • @Lord_Poyo
    @Lord_Poyo 2 года назад +85

    I give the game a 7 out of 10, but I give your review probably a 4 or 5 out of 10.
    1. Sure, the game is beautiful. Especially the sunrises and sets. However, it all looks the same. Aside from the obvious difference between Old Vil and Central, the only stand out parts of the cities would be the Dam. That's it. That's basically how the game breaks down: Old Vil, Central, and the Dam. I can't tell you of a single memorable section of Central nor Old Vil. Especially because this game is basically 90% rooftops. In the first game you had the Cauldron, the Bridge, the Beach (tbf part of bridge), the Hills near the bridge area, Gazi's area, several sections of slums, Trainyard, several highway sections, and more. Maybe the reason these each feel unique is because you are forced to traverse THROUGH them rather than simply...gliding over them. Once I got the paraglider it simply became a game of flying from one special location to another. They didn't do enough to diversify the town.
    2. Speaking on things being too similar, GRE hospitals, special encounters, and the shop "dungeons" are basically all the same. Hardly any memorable diversity. GRE almost got it, but it's always the same loop. 4 floors, and every floor has the same look. The only different one is the very first one you enter with Hakon where it is legitimately dark and unique. In the first game you had quarantine zones, but they each were a unique scenario and setup. A zombie flooded cargo warehouse, a grocery store with electrified water, a smoke filled apartment, etc.
    3. Stealth is only somewhat mandatory if you are too low level for the place. Renegade hideouts really posed ko problem. Especially with drop-kicking off buildings. The stealth worked fine, really.
    4. Yea, the weapons and mods in this are junk. I honestly just slapped on Fling, Damage, and Flame on all my weapons based on critical hit. Not to mention the crappy repair system that forces you to use a weapon without a mod until it loses 50 durability, then with only one mod till it loses another 50, etc. All because it only HEALS 50 instead of adds to max too. Maybe a bug. Idk.
    5. Paraglider having stamina makes sense, and upgrading it makes it last longer. There are also air streams you can enter to regain stamina and gain a speed boost.
    6. You missed the chance to get the better version of a bow: The crossbow. This thing does a stupid amount of damage and can fire incredibly fast (must reload, but is fairly quick). Can basically 3-4 shot volatiles.
    7. Night would have been way more improved if there were volatiles walking around the streets and even rooftops like in the first game. This even makes sense per the narrative, because they leave the "dungeons" at night. So if they aren't down there and aren't on the streets, where the f*ck did they go? A bar or something? There is also no real incentive to hit the streets, be it day or night time.

    • @KonoKrazy
      @KonoKrazy 2 года назад +18

      Fully agree, I also felt like his review had some major oversights. IMO, the most troublesome being that, like you mentioned, all the GRE hospitals, dark zones, GRE monsters, etc. are all copy/pasted. If you hadn't played the game and watched this review, you'd think they were all fairly diverse.
      He also didn't mention how the paraglider invalidates the best part of the game, the parkour. The upgraded glider (which is stupid easy to obtain) is faster than running, and way way faster than climbing. I think they could fix this by getting rid of the "sprint" option while gliding so that it's impossible to gain height without hitting a vent or airflow. I think they should also cut down on the number of vents.

    I agree a lot with what you said about the weapons being lacking, having everything you pick up be so temporary didn't give me the incentive to upgrade it at all. Especially since upgrade parts were so rare. I wish they kept a similar levelling and rarity system to the first, starting with pipes and ending with really durable tools that you wanted to upgrade. The system that made each rarity more durable and upgradable than the last made finding a purple weapon a real boon that you would be using for a while! And when you finally got that bow, it was really something else. Allowing you to take out special infected from range with attracting more. I never liked the guns in dying light or dead island, they always felt rather weightless. Totally necessary for tougher fights but never something I'd use running around Harran.
    I like the story of dl2 but I think that, in focusing on the narative it lost the fun and sometimes ridiculous parts of dl1. It took itself too seriously to let you get abducted by aliens, build a gun with hookah parts to kill our lizard overlords, or include anyone like Tolga and Fatin. They were annoying but you knew you'd get awesome stuff for working with them, culminating in the button.
    I really like dl2, I did buy the ultimate edition after all. I know techland love their games and listen to the fans, Which is the best thing you can ask for from game devs.

In the first game we had airdrops during the night, killing Volatiles and Bolters and that was it (I'm not counting the hives in The Following since that was dlc), DL2 on the other hand has GRE anomalies, GRE Hospitals, encounters that grant weapons/armor pieces, Dark Hollows and hives inside cleared out hospitals/dark hollows. There's a lot more activites to do at night in DL2 and great rewards for said activies.

Another thing is that you can increase a weapons durability by modding it. Third is that yes a weapon will sometimes not use it's mod but that was also true in the first game sometimes you hit them with the element sometimes you don't, you can activate your mod while using it and sometimes depending on what mod you have you'll shoot whatever the mod is like fire, poison, electricity, ect. Fourth is that that PK crossbow, and a bow called "nails" are pretty strong and the reason the bow seemed to not do so much damage was because there's a skill you can unlock that does bonus damage

    I love how everyone talks about the decisions you make not mattering but that couldn't be farther from the truth. You have to remember that even though you are the main character that doesn't mean the world revolves around you, yes you have a large impact obviously but depending on who you side with can really change what quests you are given and interactions between characters change. lets take hakon for example, in first playthrough I didnt see hakon until x13 where he makes up with lawan after betraying waltz and the renegades. now in that playthrough I naively sided with Jack Matt but in my second I sided with frank which then led me through a string of new missions and eventually a meeting with hakon who tries to take the GRE key from me but I beat him. then lawan shows up wants to kill him for what he did but then we see another side to hakon and lawan who chooses to forgive him for what he did at the VNC tower a few years back. After lawan chooses to find balance frank finally crowns her a nightrunner. not to mention hakon comes back to the nightrunners to support lawan which was fucking dope. I really liked hakon and I didnt want him to become my enemy so my actions really do matter(mainly the timed decisions you get at crucial moments in the story)

    you can repair your weapons in dying light two. its those upgrades. they repair 50 durability each, and you can do it twice for most weapons, three times for artifact weapons. Personally, I only managed to use up a weapon once during an entire playthrough before the rank up occured and I went on to get a more powerful weapon. I still agree the weapon choice is terrible though. it wasn't as fun as the first game. I'd say overall Dying light 2 is slightly worse than the first game. Some improvements are great, but other things drag it down way too much.
    as for bows- I don't know how your bow was that weak. are you checking the ranks of enemies? if your going up against enemies that outrank your weapon, you won't kill them in one hit. Otherwise they go down in one or two shots, especially if you have archer gear equipped to maximize range damage.

    Honestly, I wish the original creators got to keep working on it. From the first trailer leak, it got me amazed even after playing hours of DL1. The atmosphere, parkour, tools, everything got me so hyped. Then when I played it, I missed the old one. I despise the RPG combat with humans when some can take bombs and slashes, and the not so dark and frightening nights. There was so much potential, but everything got so messed up.
    I do love this game, I just wish it got to stick with it's original style and story, not with whatever state it is in now.

    Personally I do not feel like there was enough world change to the allocation of the water towers. They hyped it up before launch as "helping the PK's would lead to an authoritarian control of the city" and "helping the people would lead to other consequences" and you had to navigate this. In the end all we got were zip lines, traps that killed zombies, and giant pills that Aiden jumped on like the dude in Armageddon who "rode the nuke".
    It's a fun game but almost entirely on gameplay alone. Only a few characters save it from being that.

    I keep hearing mixed reports on whether the combat is better, worse or basically the same as DL1 and thats whats got me most concerned. The combat abilities and moves in DL2? Incredible upgrades and it can really make things feel like a duel sometimes. But the actual weapon physics, collisions, and animations? Huuuuuge downgrade from the first. In the first game when you swung a machete, you really SWANG that bitch. It really felt like you're cleaving onto an enemy and you're just trying your best to slash with an actual weapon hit box. In the second one? It's feels like a pre-made animation is used for everything and the attack animation seems so Limp and hollow.

      Human combat is great. In DL1 human combat was a pain because the NPC had near perfect reflexes. But zombie combat is bad in DL2 because there's no weight to melee attacks. Like he said, all weapons feel the same and the mods are very low effort. Personally, I love the modding system of Dead Island way more. It was so unique and there were many moving parts.

    I totally agree with the illusion of choice and their marketing strategy. If it was just presented as a parkour game, i would have played it with less expection but they hyped the game so much that even though the game was good i kind of hated it in the end just because of the false marketing and tbh the level design was not good, when compared to DL1 , Most of the streets look similar like they copy pasted it and there are no memorable places, its just plain. I agree with most of the most points made and this is the most accurate review of DL2 i have seen.

Imagine being in Villedor but being completely alone vs the entire city of infected, completely dark without UV hideouts only the ones you make yourselves in well hidden area. That kind of gameplay is what really strikes fear into me.

    For me, I found the choice system as the worst part of DL2. I liked the story,
    I really did wanna see what happened. When I beat my first run, I thought of other stuff for my second stuff. I sided with the PK's for my first run. I really wanted to see what would happen if I helped the survivors for my second run. I wanted to have nothing to do with the PK's. So, when I realized I still had to work for them, I felt so disappointed.
    I'm gonna assume that the whole branching path was cut down drastically by the devs. Think about all the things you'd need to do. Plan multiple ways for enemies to be introduced. Multiple ways for tutorials to be shown. All the different side quests and things because of one thing.
    I love the parkour, combat, and 2/3 of the story. But the choice system is the worst thing about it imo.

  • @justitgstuff5284

    Once I saw the "make choice and influence the world" thing, I knew the story would be shallow and the choices wouldn't really matter, just like every other games that tries to do this. The combat also doesn't feel as good. The impact visuals and sounds are lacking, and it seems to rely more on handmade animations compared to physics and ragdolls in combat. The "bullet sponge" enemies from combat levels don't help either. Other than that, it's a fun enough game with the looting and parkour keeping it enjoyable for me.

    I loved DL1's story: it had good characters, good pacing and plot twists that felt natural and right. DL2's story is simply chopped: it's obvious they had to cut entire parts of it (Avellone was fired during development) and things just happen out of the blue, for no apparent reason sometimes. The real highlight of DL2 is the gameplay, that is great. But story? It's pretty terrible, especially the final fight!

    The thing i HATE the most in this game is that in first game, i got used to jumping over zombies to get past them, because they stumble so easily, in this game however, zombies are literally an area, in which you get constant damage, and if you try to jump over them, you get stuck in the air for no reason, taking damage, unable to move. Its really annoying when you're roaming around, and then a zombie makes you stuck in the air, and you cant do nothing other than just die.
    I don't think it should be that hard to make zombies behave like zombies, especially if they did it in last game perfectly.
    And the zombie grab... dont even get me started on that. i didnt have a problem with that in the first game, but here its the worst mechanic possible

    I think that Dying Light 2 is one of the best GAMES out there. I'm highlighting games because the moment to moment gameplay, exploring the city and doing activities is really fun and very addicting; especially once on higher levels. I went into GRE facilities at day on purpose for the challenge, I flew around the city at night catching special infected. And I had a blast doing that!
    A lot of games now focus on how it's supposed to be a grounded experience, but they miss the part where they make the game a "game". Just seeing Hangar from Doom and the thank you note for id software really puts that into perspective. Doom isn't played for the story, it's for the intense gameplay, and Dying Light 2 really excels on that front and should be commended for it.
    They really shouldn't have pushed how the story is amazing, because yeah, it's not the hottest sauce out there. There are interesting and engaging moments here and there, but some cutscenes are just cheese balls. But I still don't find it fair to judge the game in a more negative light because of it. Plus given how much support they've shown DL1 over the years, DL2 still has a lot of room to expand it's universe and gameplay, and I hope they show same if not more amount of love for the game over the time. Even if we take covid into consideration, while this game didn't release without it's share of issues, at least it was a fun, engaging and complete experience (unlikes games released by waaaay bigger studios which have a lot less features).
    But here's my unpopular opinion. I am not fan of the choices. Precisely because I love the gameplay so much. Choosing one thing over the other can lead to missing out on some missions and experiences. At the start of the game I left Hakon to die, and in that I've missed the Lawan introduction mission, and the ending turned out to be less favorable. While I understand that this for "RePLaYaBiLitY rEaSoNS", but as someone who rarely replays a game, I'm missing out on content I'd enjoy.

    • @RMDetho
      @RMDetho 2 года назад

      Addendum: I guess you could say I believe the mission at the start of the game where you help Carlos with the electric fence is a great analogy for the game itself. While Techland tried to push the game to be all about the story and choices (which worked out as well as the goat), they made something that is incredibly fun when playing (the electric fence)

    What I also noticed is that unlike New Vegas, the game seems to have a preferred faction which has the best ending. I think it would’ve been interesting if there would’ve been more decisions that shaped the direction of the whole faction. The closest thing we get I think is when Jack asks you which version of PK propaganda sounds better, which doesn’t change anything about their faction however.

  • @dragons_red

    Mostly agree, I thought the main story with Waltz needed more front seat, felt tacked on but a good concept. The story of Frank, Lawan and the return of the Nightrunners was cool and could have been fleshed out more, but:
    - Barney was a great character, IMO. Well written and acted as an unlikable dude. WAAAAY more interesting than most of the character who felt bland and generic.
    -silly sidequests were in DL1 and part of the quirky charm in that game. Problem is, in this game they somehow lack charm and there were too many compared to more serious ones that you feel needed to be done.
    The biggest problem is not only the under deliver on consequences, but how the characters, even if affected, end up mostly all being disposable after that singular interaction. You save Aitor, you see him layer, then he is gone. Barnet would have made a great continued mini antagonist to have to deal with (like the spaz dude in days gone).
    But none of them ultimately matter. They have their 15 min in the game and are done.

  • @randomyoutubecommentersecu7639

    We already had decapitation and dismemberment with lots of blood in DL1. You could even use some weapons like axes or nail bats and take chunks off from zombies, leaving the thoracic cavity or other parts of the body like lower half exposed. Even cut them in two and see guts. You could mangle bodies even more in depth in 1 and the twitches after taking the head off was also there.

    idk if its just my system (My pc is a beast), but my main issue with the game is the parkour. I had no issues with DL1 (or any other games with parkour or climbing). In DL2 I mostly die from falling off building, missing ledges, or when jumping off buildings the roll animation isn't triggered. Parkour in fights do not work 90% of the time. Fighting at night is a grind and eventually boring. I don't mind the story and thought the vo acting was decent. I think it would be more appropriate to call the game Looting Hoarder in Zombie Land - since that's mostly all you do. Regarding Caesar in Fallout - I met him way too late in the game and I killed him (your not supposed to be able to at that part of the story) - this broke the game so I was never able to finish the game since my auto save happened right after I killed him.
