  • RANDOM Drum Patterns! (Model:Cycles Tutorial)
The Elektron Model:Cycles and Model:Samples share an extremely powerful sequencer that is capable of some truly great patterns! One of my favorite features of the sequencer is it's ability to create completely random drum patterns! This is super helpful when you're looking for inspiration when composing new parts. Enjoy the video!

I just bought one of these... With some worry and regret. I'm not sure about digital hardware, but this reassured me. I can get the experimental percussion I initially wanted out of this cute little box 😊

Definitely going to have to try this. I imagine sending parameters to the LFO could make for even more generative chaos.

Oh yeah that would definitely take things up a notch haha. Especially if you went at it on a per step basis.
Also thanks for stopping by, I'm a huge fan of your channel!

Hey man, thanks for the very well explained and informative video. I'm primarily an acoustic songwriter and have been looking for a vintage sounding drum machine which can play or create random patterns to inspire my writing. Would you say the elektrok cycles or samples could do that for me? Is it possible to 'pick out' a random pattern you particularly liked or will it always stay random? Could you share any thoughts on other loop or sample based machines that could inspire my songwriting rhythms?

The Cycles has a very distinctly metallic "FM" sound to it, so I suggest listening to a bunch of videos about it to see what you think of the sound. The Samples uses the same amazing sequencer, but allows you to use your own samples, instead of an FM engine. That means you could make samples of the drum machine sounds you want, then use them in the Model:Samples. Hope that helps!

@@FreeBeat, thanks for that info! Are there any drum machines with a more vintage, warm analog sound that are as intuitive and no-nonsense in use as the Elektron Models? The Volca's seem less easy to use and I don't think they do the probability/random thing you described in this video?
