- Today we compare Snap On's brand new Dual 100 ratchet with the tried-and-true Dual 80. We'll look at everything inside and out.

I hope they make a new version of the tl72 perhaps 90tooth. That’s my favorite ratchet I use it a lot.
I've had my FLF80 since 2007. It is date stamped 2006. So the dual 80 has been there about 18 years, not 12. In my opinion, the difference between 80 teeth and 100 teeth is not as noticeable or helpful as it was when they went from 36 teeth to 80 teeth. I still use my 36 tooth snap on ratchets when doing heavier work, even though the 80 tooth is rated for higher torque than the 36 tooth. The biggest improvement is the steel selector switch on the new 100 tooth. The powdered zinc switch on the 80 tooth breaks easily if you throw it down on your cart when you have to switch tools one handed while holding something up like a control arm or a cross member for a trans, etc. I wish the dual80 had steel/iron switches, it would be the perfect ratchet. Sealed head ratchets last decades and snap on is among the best.
That green handle ratchet is my favorite. I have not had a chance to see the new one since I've been out of work. Thanks for sharing
How long does the boot stay on?
@ToolDemos well I had surgery 2.5 weeks ago. And right now I'm still not putting weight on it, I'm in a walking boot but can't walk at all. I should be in a splint. 2 weeks from today I go back for x rays and as long as it all looks like it should I can start to put weight on it. He said it will take 10 to 14 days of walking on it with crutches before I can walk without them. Not sure how long the boot stays on from there but the earliest I can go back to work is February 21st but that's modified activity. Only working 4 hours a day can't walk much.
@@NutsandBoltswithTone that’s gotta suck!
@ToolDemos it has been rough, I love in 2 story house and going upstairs is hard so I've been living in my recliner down stairs. Thankfully I've had my RUclips to help keep me busy. But yeah it sucks
Nice work Steve ..Thanks for showing..✌
You bet, cheers!
Thank you very much for the comparison! 👍 I am impressed with the robust yolk. But aesthetically, not crazy about the T10's on the show side again. I am not a professional technician, but I do love my dual 80's. Not sure if it's worth the upgrade for me.
My guess is you didn’t watch the comparison video: ruclips.net/video/xI3lTu-ev78/видео.htmlsi=DzoNr-tIk_PyppuA I’ll save you from watching it, if you don’t want to: the heavy yoke is not going to save it. I would recommend keeping your 82 ratchet. I think they’re better.
I’ve had an 80 tooth snap on from 2003. Bought of the truck myself
Great ratchet, hang on to it.
I own some Snap On ratchets, but is it me or do you start to kinda miss the quick release button? I spent extra on a Koken quarter incher just to get the QR option.
Personally, as a former Craftsman/Husky man, no. I don’t miss the quick release, but that’s a personal preference thing.
I love the snap on quick release ratchets personally.
What snap on model is that long ratchet you have there?
Part number is FXH80, it’s a locking flex head.
When did snap on actually release the dual 80 ratchets?
It’s been at least 18 years, but I can’t find the actual release date.
I saw one on the truck 2 weeks ago. The back drag is stiffer than all my 80 tooth ratchets.
Not impressed.
Gets way better after break in
Just give the spring a little trim✂️
I 100% agree, I felt one of the new 100 tooth ratchets and the super crunchy back drag didn’t impress me compared to the trusty dual 80. A premium ratchet shouldn’t need breaking in to make it feel better than it’s predecessor.
@nicknewyen 💯
@@motov8-garage832You pay snappy premium only to have to mod the ratchet to get it working? SK played that game and got sold to the Chinese.
Here's me still using my two single pawl 30 tooth Snap On 3/8 ratchets I've had for 20 years.
Keep ‘em! Those are great ratchets.
I can't keep my hand from grabbing it automatically even with a dual 80 sitting right next to it
oh man the cliffhanger at the end 😩 ill look forward to the next episode 🥹🥹
It’s live now 😁. I had a lot of fun with that one.
I hate how they pretty much look identical to the icon ratchet... I think I'll stick with the dual 80
It’s crazy how similar they do look.
@@ToolDemosthey're both fugly. 😞
I had to watch this 1st i almost missed it!! Lol
The sk ratchet I have the pawls are twice as thick as a normal pawl.
I ‘ve been thinking of giving one a try.
I’m waiting for Snap on to make a 180 tooth ratchet..combine them both…😁 Actually, this was a great video..I love my long handled comfort grip 3/8”..it’s my go to.
Wasn’t it Mac that made the zero tooth ratchet and it totally failed?
Hey I have a FKF80 with a date code from 2007 though I'd let you know oh and nice videos by the way
Thanks Glenn, the only info I could find was incorrect.
Still waiting for them since first mentions months ago none in the uk till may/june
The wait is the worst.
At 3:18 is the underneath side of the grip.
Maybe Williams will upgrade to a higher tooth count ratchet now..
I wouldn’t doubt it.
Likely just weaken/shorten the spring to reduce backdrag.
That steep angle gives it alot of backdrag they should come in at a lower angle like a koken much lighter backdrag
Yup. That’s the worst part of their design.
@ToolDemos they are gonna have the same problem as the proto 90 or mac axis( same internals)all that engagement pawls hugging the gear hard when ratcheting leading to premature wear and lots of rebuilds
So the fan boys gunna come out and say how snap on pioneered this ratchet and the best thing on the planet even though many others have had 100-120 teeth for some time now ?
Exactly, and honestly, I don’t think Snap On’s version compares very well.
@@ToolDemos don’t get more wrong i have the snap on 80 ratchets and I’ve owned a gear wrench 120. I love my snap on ratchets but my point is and forever will be there will be a lot of people coming out saying how the new snap on ratchets are worth it ….
They’re still behind the times but yet act like gear wrench is trash because Taiwan made and half the price …
Just saying I have snap on I like what little snap on I have but I’d never go out of my way because snap on released something “new “
@@user-rr4hr7bz7n excellent explanation and kudos for staying objective.
Don't care for the cursive logo like the original🤣
The font is terrible. You can barely read it because it looks blurred
Right, it looks more like it was etched rather than stamped.
Automotive guys are funny. “300 bucks for a ratchet? No problem gotta have professional tools!” Calipers that provide vitally important important potentially engine ruining information though… lol. Not directed at your in particular just something funny I’ve noticed on expensive hand tool reviews.
Yeah, then the cordless tool money pit. We seem fine with it.
Snappy pulled these from the market. Too much back drag and locking up too. Garbage and an embarrassment.
Did they? Very interesting!
@@ToolDemos yes, because they're terrible.
@@desertdweller9548 I wonder if dealers are trading them out?
@@ToolDemos they're not selling them. Techs are left holding the bag. Typical.
Hey I have a FKF80 with a date code from 2007 though I'd let you know oh and nice videos by the way
