This song was featured on “Stranger Things” most recent season…it was the song that helped the girl escape the upside down.

Here's the quick potted summary of Kate Budh
A quick background summary of Kate Bush, Kate started writing songs at about 11 years old, adding more complex lyrics from 13 onwards. By her late-teens she had written over a hundred songs (some reports say more than two hundred), the family made demo recordings of about fifty, in an attempt to attract the attention of record companies without any success. Until a friend of family passed the demos to David Gilmour guitarist for pink Floyd, he was interested and ultimately paid for time at studio with session musicians to make professional recordings of three songs from Kate extensive catalogue which he selected. It was those professional recordings that he passed onto EMI executives when he was asked about new talents - when EMI listened they wanted to sign Kate up immediately, but they had to wait until she had left school, Kate signed for EMI when she was 16 years old.
EMI paid Kate a retainer which she used to improve her piano playing, voice lessons and also dance & mime lessons from Lindsay Kemp (who had also taught David Bowie dance). Kate also fronted a pub band that one of her brothers had put together. Eventually EMI called Kate back to work on her debut album "The Kick Inside" although two songs were taken from the professional recordings that Davie Gilmour had paid for - one of those songs was written when she was 13.
Kate's debut single "Wuthering Heights" was released in January 1978 and it was so different to everything else in the singles chart and became a massive worldwide hit, reaching number in a number of countries around the world and charting highly in others. When it got to number 1 in the UK, Kate became the first female artist to have a self written song reach number one, the 1st of numerous records and milestones that Kate has set in the UK and album charts.
When "The Kick Inside" was released later in 1978, it sold a million copies in the UK and reached number three in the album chart.
Kate is multi-talented a singer/songwriter, musician, dancer, record producer, video producer and director. Kate was also heavily involved in the staging of both of her concert tours - 1979 "Tour Of Life" and the 2014 concert residency "Before The Dawn". Kate has inspired/influenced countless numbers of artists/musicians who followed her, she is considered to be a musical icon and pioneer.
Kate was credited as a co-producer on her third album "Never For Ever" and was the sole producer on her fourth album "The Dreaming" and every subsequent studio album.

One of Kate's personal favorites. In short, the lyrics are about a woman trying to make a deal with god so she swap places with her significant other, so the both of them could understand each other better. The dance was made between herself, and the male dancer that shared the screen with her.
Kate was found by one of the lead members of Pink Floyd, David Gilmour. He helped her land a record deal, and even helped her keep the rights to her own music, eventually leading her to make her own record label, so she could rerelease any of her music when she wanted, and even allowing her to control what digital platforms it went to, and keeping the money made from it going directly to her.
One of the best versions of this song in my opinion is the live one she got David to join her on, just look up "kate bush live running up that hill David Gilmour" you'll find it instantly.
As for other music from her, her fist hit at age 19 was her version of Wuthering Heights, she originally wrote it too, and many others have covered it since. If nothing else it's an interesting watch to see where she started from, and it was a UK #1 hit at the time.
Every hit she's ever had is very different from one another, I also highly recommend Babooshka, This Woman's Work, Cloud Bursting, Hounds of Love, Army Dreamers, Wow, Sensual World, Rubber Band Girl, and Experiment IV, that last one is a recent find for me, the music video is like a mini horror movie, and the idea behind it is based on actual war time experiments.

Kate Bush is very famous and a hugely creative artist. I bought this single when it came out, when I was at school. Wuthering Heights is one of her most famous songs, and you need to hear it! (The lyrics are based on a very famous 18th century novel of the same name). Rubberband Girl is another favourite of mine.

The way I look at Kate Bush and her art is that she is, perhaps, the clearest example of a true Genius. And I say this as someone looking in from the outside, I am more of a hard rock, blues, and singer-songwriter guy. So let me explain. Kate is the steward of her own destiny, she writes and performs her own songs, she produces her own records. She designs and directs her own music videos and does all of this to such a high standard that it transcends all real and imaginary borders.
I can't think of any male (or other female) artist that has such a mastery of her own world and art, and projects such a unique vision to us. She also apparently had this quality from a very young age (this is typical of extraordinary talent).
When someone asks me if I can name a musical genius, regardless of genre … I immediately think of Kate Bush.
    She is special. Cheers 🍺

She was actually a trained dancer and this type of dance is called “lyrical.”

Usually Kate choreographs her dances mostly herself but for this song she particularly wanted to use dance more expressively so she worked with Diane Grey.
The other dancer was Michael Hervieu, from the Kate Bush Encyclopedia:
He was auditioned for the part, and given just one day to rehearse with Kate. When the music video was filmed, he was actually fined by his union for doing both this job and appearing in a West End play at the same time.
    From RUTH wiki:
She stated that dance in music videos was "being used quite trivially, it was being exploited: haphazard images, busy, lots of dances, without really the serious expression, and wonderful expression, that dance can give. So we felt how interesting it would be to make a very simple routine between two people, almost classic, and very simply filmed. So that's what we tried, really, to do a serious piece of dance."
Incidently as well as composing the song it is Kate Bush playing the synths and doing the exotic backing vocal layers, she also produced the whole album. I think she is a great artist, her catalog includes so many beautiful works.

This is a timeless track from Kate's iconic 1985 "Hounds Of Love" the single and album prior to last year were Kate's highest placed entries on US billboard charts.
However, this all changed in a major way last year because this song playef a key pivotal role and featured heavily in season 4 of Stranger Things. Since Kate is very choosy as to how her music features in TV series and films, there was some negotiation, it helped that Kate was already a fan of the series and that the producers supplied detailed notes on how thry wanted to use the song. Kate even give her permission for an instrumental version to appear.
As direct consequence of its use on Stranger Things, it blew up worldwide including America where she's not that well known as a artist, resulting in RUTH getting to Number 3 in the Billboard Hot 100 and number 1 in Billboard 200 worldwide indicating that it was the most widely played/streamed song around the world and also number 1 in the Billboard US Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart.
The success in the US also spread to the "Hounds Of Love" which topped a number of specialist Billboard charts in the US.
BTW on the 20th of June 2023, RUTH hit a billion streams on Spotify.
Outside of America lsst year RUTH raced up the charts in many countries reaching the number 1 spot in Australia, Belgium, Ireland, Lithuania, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK.
Im the top 10 in Austria, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmatk, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, India, Latvia, Malaysia, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, Slovakia and South Africa.
Based on streams/sales it was the song of the summer in America and the UK.
The chart performance in the UK singlea chart meant that Kate set yet more UK singlea chart records, which I wont go into here.
The worldwide popularity was likely the major deciding fqctor in Kate Bush being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Frame in 2023 at her fifth attempt.
Kate was always massive outside of North America, a music icon, trailblazer and inspiration for countless artists that came after her. Some list claim that she has been inspired or been an influence on literally hundreds...
So, I'm a bit surprised that you haven't heard of Kate Bush or her song, but anyway you know her now.
As for where you go from here you can listen to the other single releases from the "Hounds Of Love" album:
    📍Hounds Of Love
    📍BIg Sky
    📍Cloudbusting
BTW, Kate's music videos are always of some interest since she was involved in producing them and in some cases directing them.
Or you can listen to her single/album releases in chronological order to understand how she developed as an artist, starting with her debur single Wuthering Heights - which did have a major impact when it was released.
By the time that Kate got to her late teens she had written at least 200 songs, she started writing simple ones from 11, adding more complex lyrics from age 13 onwards.
I do have a quick summary of Kate Bush which I will post in a separate comment.

Hi and thanks for this. This is one of Kate bush's most successful and popular songs - now with over 1 billion streams. It is taken from probably her most famous and influential album "Hounds of Love", an album that is pretty much flawless. Kate is one of the very few rock/pop artists who could almost be described as a musical genre all on her own, because her albums are so very different from each other and even within each album there is such a diversity of music styles, arrangements, coupled with her experimentation in her music, the themes or subjects she tackles, and the way she assumes different characters and different voices to match particular songs.
One very fine example of this is her song "Rocket's Tail" which is on her 1989 album "The Sensual World." Although the album was released in 1989, a retrospective review of it in 2019 for 'Pitchfork,' said that "Rocket's Tail" sounded like a miracle - 30 years after it was released.

Kate Bush is a child prodigy and an artistic genius on many levels. Song writing, dance, mime, video choreography, -- and so much more. She takes her passion for music very seriously and dwells in classic literature and other deep subject matter. *DO NOT PASS BY THIS ARTIST!*
*Make certain you watch as many official videos as possible because Kate is a visual artist as well as musical.* The visual adds another artistic layer to the song track.
Watch and listen to everything by her is the best recommendation, but here are a few videos to get you started:
    "This Woman's Work"
    "The Sensual World"
    "Cloudbusting"
    "Sat In Your Lap"
    "Suspended In Gaffa"
    "The Dreaming"
    "Army Dreamers"
    "Babooshka"
    "Breathing"
    "Hammer Horror"
    "Wuthering Heights"
"The Man With The Child In His Eyes"
    "Them Heavy People"

I was born in 1978, and I never heard this song until the early 2010s-and it made me rethink the entire decade of 1980s music and consider taking more 80s music more seriously. The way the lyrics, the dancing and the color palette and composition work together is gorgeous to me. The music is of its time and also timeless because of the lyricism.

Kate is a genius, I've loved her music since day one,and Kate is the only British female artist to write, produce and perform a number one single, and has yet to be beaten.
