- In what many believe is the greatest CWS Cinderella story, Fresno State went from beginning the NCAA tournament as one of the lowest seeds to becoming the 2008 national champion. Steve Detwiler went 4-for-4 with two home runs, a double and all six RBIs in Game 3 to defeat Georgia, 6-1 in the 2008 CWS Finals. He also caught the final out in right field.

Will never forget this moment in life, everyone at work paused the whole restaurant was filled at Agave Grill, (closed down) in Clovis California, i will never forget how packed and everyone paused for the last inning of this game. Good ole' 2008, one of the best years living in Fresno.
ive never been a fan of baseball, but i remember this run. i was pumped as hell when they won since i followed the majority of the run on espn and was from fresno. i watched the final game at a friend's house and was going crazy when they pulled it off. im not even a fan of baseball but i guess u always remember the most iconic sport moments u live through.

I still look back at this moment form time to time for my Bulldog pride as a Fresno State Alum. Still have copies of The Bee’s front page spread and all… I’ll never forget that moment.
Justin Wilson and Steve Detwiler = Wonderdogs national championship. As a Fresno State alumnus, the feeling that evening when it happened...I just remember jumping in my car and driving down Shaw Avenue from Cedar to the 168 just honking and seeing all the other cars and students celebrating up and down. What a wonderful scene that was.
