    Fun fact: the prevailing theory of how the Burmese python was originally introduced into the Everglades was hurricane Andrew destroying a poorly constructed breeding facility in the heart of the Everglades back in 1992. Pet releases since then have definitely contributed, but the FWC (florida Fish and Wildlife Commission) believes that this initial release in 92 introduced the foundation stock.

    The pacific sleeper shark has also been found with giant squid remains in its stomach, though far less documented as both species dwell so deep in the water almost always.
    Another decent example is the Eurasian Brown Bear and Siberian Tigers relationship where normally adults avoid each other with few exceptions where a large bear may scare a tiger off a carcass. The interesting part comes when both species have been documented preying upon young/weak specimens of the other species occasionally which no doubt is still very dangerous.

    • @stopyouneedhelp6115
      @stopyouneedhelp6115 Год назад

      The bull sharks aggression and ability to traverse between salt and freshwater so easily also gives it a few unique interactions. Usually it’s baby bull sharks receiving the brunt of the damage when it comes to interactions with the salt water crocodile, but that’s partially because it’s easy to spot whereas a bull shark preying upon a young croc would likely not be seen. Further evidence of conflict between adults is the example where I think it’s believed the famous large salt water crocodile, Brutus, who is missing a leg may have lost it to a bull shark. (To add on to this when saltwater crocodiles enter the ocean they may come into contact with a large variety of sharks which has documented videos you can find on RUclips, though the crocs may be more vulnerable in this scenario as their soft underbelly is exposed as they prefer shallows and swim near the surface typically.)
      There is also a little bit of evidence that the bull sharks may be the one of the only animal to prey upon the river dolphins far up the Amazon river, but this is exceptionally hard to document, yet surely would be no easy conflict like when they target oceanic dolphins too.

    Here's an idea...
    When dealing with invasive species, why not capture its natural predator, keep some for breeding, kill it's reproductive capacity, and introduce it to the area to hunt and kill the invasive species?
    Since they're not fertile, they can't have kids, so they won't become an invasive species themself. We control their numbers, they hunt their prey to local extinction, and then they die off. Plus, as they can't reproduce, we can track them and then capture them after they've done their job, and send them home or give them to a zoo or something.
    I wonder how viable that is, if it's been tried at all, and if it's something that's even possible. I mean, I don't think it would be all that hard to neuter or spay a honey badger or mongoose and sick them on invasive snake species.

    • @JKSSubstandard
      @JKSSubstandard 2 года назад +1

      The problem is a) introducing and maintaining a population of predators large enough to hunt an invader to extinction, but also completely incapable of breeding to bolster its numbers and b) finding such a predator that won't see the natural animals as easier prey and hunt them instead of the invader

    • @JKSSubstandard
      @JKSSubstandard 2 года назад

      A more likely, though heavily debated on moral grounds, solution would be genetic modification of invaders via crispr. Create a genetically modified version of the invader that is hyper susceptible to disease and defects, but still very good at breeding. Use that population to cripple the invasive population over several generations through defects and disease.

    Awesome video! It's like interesting that the Jaguar in the past has been found in Tennessee. Another interesting story that through carbon dating on bones of a Jaguar found in a cave there to have died before Europeans arrived in North America. We have old stories of the wampus cat that has supposedly lived in the mountains and hollows of East Tennessee. They supposedly were all black or dimly spotted. There are Jaguar living in Texas and Arizona in breeding pairs even as I write this with wildlife management watching almost every minute in order to protect them safe.The tales of the wampus cat are still seen by people who come forward with stories of large black cats crossing fields or grainy images. The TWRA says they are extinct in Tennessee along with the Eastern Mountain Lion. I could probably write a dissertation on animal migration with respect animals filling in niches that other animals filled and are now gone . An example of this is how the coyotes are filling the niche the Eastern Timber Wolf use to occupy. They've move from the southwest without stopping to see which state they're in. A few years there was a Black Bear from the Smokey Mountains that walked out of the mountains and walked 3/4 of the way across the state before encountering humans a trouble set in TWRA took him back to the mountains. I guess it wanted to go west.

    I totally get people disliking hunting safaris but if properly done they can be excellent for conservation.
    Well run safaris rely on experienced guides, a fair number of whom are ex-poachers. These guides assist in identifying older or injured quarry and help the hunters make clean shots resulting in quick and humane death. By taking out these animals, fresh genetics get their chance and animals which may have faced a long slow death get a quicker end. Often the meat from these animals is donated to local populations and the crazy money people pay to go on a shoot helps support the local community. Maintaining reserves, tracking target species and running the residential parts of these safaris creates local employment. By doing this, these safaris help reduce the need for poaching to support life. It's easy to judge the act of shooting a Buffalo but when done right that one life becomes a sacrifice to help hundreds, maybe even thousands to live.
    It's very easy to forget that many regions with hunting safaris lack gainful employment and often people are forced to take up destructive sources of income to support themselves and their families.
    Another function I forgot to mention is the use of these safaris to control population sizes in an area. Just as too few of a species is problematic, so is too many. Baboons in SA are a gold example. In some areas the populations are excessive and the behaviour of these primates is such that they pose a problem and even a risk to food sources for humans and animal species alike. Horrible as it sounds, baboons tend to die cleanly and thus it's often more humane for boers and hunters to shoot them.

    Now would the Irish government ever admit to their own submarines accidentally killing a whale? Which is more likely to actually be in Irish waters?
