Love the episodes actually binge watching it right now. You do a great job. Charmed has been my favourite show for decades now and I love your take on it.. I would love you to do a Cole Deep dive on a few episodes I’m sad that the right is ruined, Phoebe and Coles dynamic
It was one of the darkest season. Dealing with grief and the source. It leaned so much more into the darkness also with phoebe becoming the queen of darkness
This is one of the stand out eps of Season 4. It lives rent-free in my head, and I love it to pieces for giving us a real, concrete backstory on Paige. The writers really made the effort to make Paige a distinct, and fully fleshed out character in her first season. And this episode has Clyde - one of my favorite side characters lol.
I cherish those years watching Charmed for the first time! Season 4 was PEAK! And it’s incredible how Charmed really was an adult show, meaning that it dealt with a lot of heavier things that shows during that era did not! Also, in anachronistic retrospect…it’s very sad to have come to know all that happened to ROSE, in real life and how she must have pulled the real life trauma from it, in scenes and episodes such as this one! The media scrutiny and insane persecution of Rose after she boldly chose to stand up! And speak out have taken a toll on this incredibly strong soul! Seeing her shine in season 4 and Charmed overall is witnessing her triumph through her trauma as it was fresher and persevere to get her job done! Rose’s acting and her connection to it…was much more layered and rooted in authenticity than most Hollywood actors!!! And I think that’s partially why she never got into it as much as she could have, because so much of what happens in Hwood is fake!
Even though the writers screwed up with the character paige she's my second favorite next to prue because she's the most compassionate to me rose McGowan was brilliant in this episode she's so underrated
I love this episode!!!! Paige experienced death early and was mature in that sense... I also love how she pushed piper to help comfort Phoebe after Cole's death... Paige told piper that she'll be alone a lot what she needs is us more than anything.. love that. I lost my mom in May this year! It's important to have support.
Just realized something: till season two, when grams returned as a ghost, Phoebe went through a similar pain as paige did: fearing her parents (gram was the only parent she knew) died while they were at their worst! Kinda puts her search for "daddy" in another light...
“Is Leo a Labyrinth fan?” Had this same thought when rewatching this one🤣 thanks for yet another great video, im really enjoying these as I’m rewatching the series!
What only stuck out to me recently was that he saw from the trip to the past how much Paige was hurting, and he pulled a favour with Clyde just to make her feel better. He's not just her sister's husband. He's her family too. And I never realised that until recently
Oooh this episode is terrific ! Paige isn't even my favorite sister but damn, it hits pretty hard every time. Your analysis is great, as always ! I just have to disagree on the fact that "Morality Bites" is the episode supposed to showcase Alyssa' skills. It actually focus a lot on Shannen and Holly too. If I had to pick one episode for Alyssa and Phoebe as a character, it would probably be "Long Live the Queen" where she really gets to shine. I would love to see you cover this one, by the way.
I love this so much watching these videos makes me so happy and makes me actually believe I can start my own RUclips channel talking about my deep love for charmed and the respect I have for it ( even in times where it’s bad and makes me wanna cry because they ruin good characters)
I was literally thinking, why was this episode not covered in a Greatest Charmed Episodes video then literally six hours later, after binging the Greatest Charmed Episodes playlist, this video is here 😀 Rose McGowan shined in this episode. The first time I watched this, I cried so much.
Season 4 is my favorite season of Charmed and S4 Paige is my favorite character, with a lot of that due to A Paige From the Past! Rose McGowan was the reason I even started watching Charmed because Tatumn was my favorite character from Scream. Give her the right material and she's a scene stealer!
I think Paige could orb as a teenager, because the spell was designed for witch powers and not for white lighter powers like orbing. We see that again in Season 6 and specifically in the episode The Power of Three Blondes.
I think it’s be cool af to see you talk about the Daniel Craig Bond movies cos they’re some of the few major franchise/action movies that really deal with emotional stakes and character drama in a convincing way while still being really entertaining
Ooh that'd be interesting. There was a video I did in 2021 about YA fantasy adaptations where I did briefly touch on Casino Royale and its influence on the spy genre (intersecting with Stormbreaker).
@@BetterWithBob do it do it do it! Also I’d love to talk to you somewhere about writing, I have a lot of story ideas and I’d love some opinions of them by someone as smart as you :)
I don't know why this video made me cry so much, but I think it's just the fact that this whole episode always evokes such a strong emotion. Paige really is presented with such a unique opportunity and the idea of reliving your past to change the outcomes is one I think a lot of people enjoy in theory and in this episode we are presented with more of the reality of that what if. I think a big part of the human experience in general is embracing the hardest parts of our life to realise that it makes up pieces of the puzzle even if we wish they didn't. This episode really does show we need to provide ourselves with more acceptance and forgiveness. Theres so much beauty in Rose's performance and it really is the smaller moments where she is realising everything from an adult perspective that is the magic. Like the way her eyes change as she can hear herself realising the regret she feels from deliberating hurting her parents out of spite is such a perfect little moment. They really do all play off each other so well. This was one of my earliest episodes of Charmed and it always hits me as hard as it first did. The acting is sublime but the deeper layers of what if we could relive our worst moments only to realise it's not about changing them but accepting them really are the icing on the cake. Especially when it comes to accepting death, a theme I think this show handles so beautifully. Thank you for this video! ♥
I rewatched this recently and was surprised to see the flak it got, particularly the ending. Sometimes a happy ending (of sorts) is well-earned. McGowan is excellent throughout and it gives her a genuinely sympathetic backstory, enabling her to fill the Prue-shaped whole fully, and Milano and McMahon have a lot of fun in the B storyline!
this video is the first i've watched from you thanks to the algorithm and it earned a subscription! looking forward to more vids. gonna go binge the other charmed vids you have, i haven't watched charmed in years but it's such a hallmark for my teenage years, i have no choice but to surrender to the nostaliga lol. anyway, great essay and analysis!
Love your videos bro! Please make a vid like this to 4x08 and 4x20, some of my favorites of this season. Greetings from México, have a very happy new year.
Although I do have some sympathy with the idea that Charmed suffers on occasion from being lighter than Buffy, I wouldn't personally say that applies to the shows' respective take on the afterlife. There are heaven dimensions in Buffy, they just don't get dwelt on as much because it doesn't suit the tone as well. But throughout Charmed's run it was a show about family and having faith in something, and for me it's a fitting metaphor for keeping people in your heart that their loved ones (at least those whose actors don't have image rights disputes with the show) can visit them from the beyond from time to time. This was the first episode I saw any scene from and it really helped me to love Paige as a character. With her empathy and optimism in the face of great hardship, she reminds me of my mom's best friend in the same way my mom and aunt remind me of Prue and Phoebe (Piper reminds me of me). I like to have the personal headcanon that Phoebe and Cole reconcile after Season 8, with him and Coop having a similar dynamic to Dan and Lucifer from Lucifer.
Rebellion, braces, black hair, living with guilt, redemption . . . Paige WAS Prue--but with the ability to accept who she was and balance seriousness with fun.
I always thought Prue was miss popular? Didn’t they make references to her being a cheerleader and well known by the student body and outgoing? Like, Piper was the wallflower dork, Phoebe was freebie, and Paige was meant to be a rebel. It’s possible though they took inspiration for Paige from S2 where Prue becomes a teenager again.
I somehow missed this episode in ally my years watching Charmed. Or I totally forgot it. So as you can imagine the ending to this vid has me practically sobbing. I love that for Paige, bless her
Can't wait for more Charmed videos. This was the last one I came across and watched. I'm looking at your other videos and looking forward to more Charmed. Also, liked your Buffy video you did too! Are you going to eventually do all episodes, or just a certain selection? I was wondering if you planned on doing All Halliwell's Eve or The Witch Is Back? All Halliwell's Eve is the first episode I came across back in the day and is still a favorite of mine to this day. Also The Witch Is Back I always thought was an interesting episode, because it was one of the few we got of Malinda Warren and got to know more of her story.
I just absolutely love how your analysis is able to weave many themes and make many connections to things I hadn't considered despite watching the series so many times. The episode was never my favorite, though it was good. I always didn't like the cliché where the character time travels back and becomes a teenager with braces and bangs. 🙄 However I'm really happy Rose is the only one who did it and didn't have that annoying baby voice Alyssa (S6) or even Shannon(S2) did. Also that Paige is the most powerful Charmed One is probably not up for debate any more. They were only able to defeat the Source with her not Prue. #JustSayin *Curious question:* you used a clip from one of the best episodes, the 100th episode, to say you didn't like the direction they took Paige. I hope we one day get to explore that pls 😊
Also in the comics it says that the destiny never was supposed to transfer and since prue died and still had a strong connection with her sisters, it made the new charmed ones weaker till prue let go
I think this episode solidified Rose as an excellent addition to the cast. There are actually very few things I’ve seen Rose in, the only other one I can really say is probably Once Upon A Time as Young Cora (Regina’s mum) and from what I remember of that, she was amazing cause it was showing the moment when Cora changed into what we know her as. Not saying I’m gonna rewatch Charmed now. But I’m very very very tempted
Grams and Patty would have cast it again when Paige was born. It was theorized by fans at the time, that perhaps her witch powers were bound but her WL powers couldn't be bound as easily.
Rewatching a lot of your videos. I love them! I just noticed something… did you add a new background music? I prefer the original versions without backgrounds. 🙏🏼
I saw that Lifetime movie where Rose played the Church lady who killed her Pastor husband and I thought she was amazing (not to mention it was a Lifetime movie). But I do feel like Rose likes characters that are like deadly vixens type characters like in Planet Terror and that Connan the barbarian movie where she played an evil witch and her father was that ripped old dude was it Stephen Lang ? Also what is it with Bangs if your a teenage Halliwell.
Paige is also my fave of the charmed though one of my issues is how they dropped her addiction to alcohol so easily Also while saying how she was always the strongest sister the plot of season 8s the ultimate power and i love billie to death said that due to the fact that they arent the original charmed ones anymore so to speak that theyre slightly weaker and that thats only why the fight was so significant
@@BetterWithBob she didnt say it but it was hinted at in multiple episodes that if prue had been alive they wouldnt have been so strong but maybe thats just my interpretation and i absolutely love your videos. Could you do the same format with witchstock please its one my favorites
Grams and Patty's binding spell wouldn't of worked on Paige since she was born after it was cast. They would of had to do a separate spell for her, however because she's half WL, it would of only worked on her witch powers not her WL powers.
I think the lightness and the less dramatic edginess is why I will always prefer Charmed over Buffy, I love both but only one is my constant come back to comfort show. This episode really shows why.
Sadly (and not) because of her speaking up about the miramax powerful guy, she have the Hollywood Doors closed. And I HATE not many Hollywood people supportes her or have Lost Jobs as her.
Paige is not the most powerful she just has the most powers , Prue would be more powerful than her since prue was was the eldest and Paige and prues power although similar and shared prue would be more destructive than prues and probably take Paige out
Paige would orb Prue into a hellpit in a second before she even had a chance. Paige doesnt fall into the whole eldest thing cause she is not a full Halliwell. She is doubly magical.
Paige joining the power of 3 stronger is definitely not true especially since the comics state that prue is still connected to since she technically came back alive
Prue being connected to it actually *weakened* the power of them and prevented the others from reaching their full potential because it was splitting what was meant to be a three way power source into four. That’s what was said and the comics and why once Prue let’s go they immediately start getting stronger and new powers.
I think people forget that Paige is not a charmed one. They were able to recreate the power of three bc of her blood as a halliwell and her being part white lighter helped bolster the power of LOSING a charmed one. Just like Patty and Granny were able to help Piper recreate it in the finale. The charmed ones are the most powerful witches in all of existence even being half they're stronger than full witches. She is not the strongest of them bc she's not a charmed one. She was able to bipass the spell bc granny didn't know about her so she wasn't apart of the spell to begin with.
None of this makes sense. Paige is a charmed one regardless. Being a child of the charmed ones mother naturally makes her a charmed one upon prues death. Grams knew about Paige. It's stated on s4e2. I suggest rewatching, everything is explained there. The mum clearly states "a sister witch, on my half". It doesn't matter that she's part whitelighter, she's still a witch from the charmed line which is how she was able to reconstitute the charmed ones.
@@christophermatthews1782 based on the original plot and not the one the show made up along the way. Being a mother of a charmed one doesn't make you charmed. It was their DESTINY to be the charmed ones. You think destiny ain't know about paige? It was the power of three for a reason
@@CaritheEntertainer yeah and Destiny also explained this that it was always meant to remain the power of three which is why Paige didn’t inherit access to it or charmed powers until them. Paige could always orb because of her whitelighter side, she didn’t get Telekinesis or telekinetic orbing until she inherited Prues power. Also, Destiny has been shown to change and some people to lose out on their destinies multiple times so Destiny knowing about Paige doesn’t mean anything in the grand scheme of what you’re talking about.
I felt so bad for Paige in this episode, you can tell this is something that Paige carries this with her. It was great
She's definitely what TV Tropes calls 'The Woobie' lol
😅 really?
Season 4 had so many episodes that made me feel emotional. This was definitely one of them. Plus, like you said, the B plot was pretty fun.

Well, another awesome video on a great Season 4 episode. I guess by now we can surely say this is the best season!

@@skurinski let me completely honest Paige has never done to a demon so how would she do that to her sister cmon think
erm remember Glenn's soon to be wife? She did it to her@@jaidenlawrence3746
For the algo
Paige joining the power of 3 stronger is definitely not true especially since the comics state that prue is still connected to since she technically came back alive
Prue being connected to it actually *weakened* the power of them and prevented the others from reaching their full potential because it was splitting what was meant to be a three way power source into four. That’s what was said and the comics and why once Prue let’s go they immediately start getting stronger and new powers.
I knew they were bad, but Frankie and Lulu should have been allowed to get married and then move on.
I always felt the Cole and Phoebe plot took away from Paige's story. But then I hate their characters, so..
Paige's? Or Phoebe and Cole's?
@@BetterWithBob Phoebe and Cole. Once Cole was introduced, Phoebe went downhill for me.
