As a kid I was at that lake on opening day and fished it many times . It was always irritating to see Long bring paid tourists to the lake it was not well received .

What about the guys who caught 3 huge striped bass but it didn’t count bc they never came to see if the men caught world record fish. Even though they took clear photos and videos

You left out the main part in the first catch where they couldn’t verify the fish because he weighed it on the boat and not land 😅

The way Dottie was caught and handled was illegal. The truth is Mac Weakley faced a lot of scrutiny after landing Dottie. There was no video proof that the fish was intentionally snagged, but there was a witness who saw Mac setting the hook multiple times before finally hooking onto Dottie. Second, after landing Dottie, she was tied to a stringer, dragged to the boat dock, weighted, and photographed. The CA freshwater regulation states, "It is unlawful to kill, or retain in possession any fish which has not voluntarily taken the bait or artificial lure inside its mouth. Any fish not taken pursuant to these regulations, shall be released immediately back into the water." The keyword here is "immediately". Dottie was not released immediately, she was kept in possession for a lengthy time, enough to stress her out and potentially kill her. The sad truth is even the Game Ward looked the other way, to give Dotty a chance of fame.

It’s because he snagged it on purpose acting like he accidentally did it, and probably tore a hole too big, knowing that it would never pass.

The foul hook rule didn't exist when the first record was logged

whats with all the specifics for world record authentication? i mean, i know why it’s important to verify obviously, but why isnt extensive clear video with weight and length on camera not enough? also why does the hook placement matter?

I remember a record bass where the guys weighed the fish on the boat instead of land, so they didn't count it, and they had already released it and then got told it had to be on land lol

Far as I’m concerned Dottie is the world record, nothing has ever came close to her at over 25lbs and yes she would’ve counted, when she died she only weighed what 12-14lbs I think

She definitely should have been the record!! As much as the bothered her haha give her a break, she was huge. Didn’t she lose back to like 19 Somn before she ended up dieing? I don’t know it’s been a while! She should at least be in a hall of fame of some kind haha
