Nice to have a reviewer that speaks clearly and at normal speed, thank you.
Thanks for the feedback, most of the 'reviews' of these things were too far in the 'hype' and 'fan-boy' camp for me. Thanks for being a subscriber too.. Happy flying!
just got mine today,,,, I cant wait to open it up when my wife go to sleep..hahaha
Story of my life
Excellent video! It is my main reference video for my DJI digital system. Thank you from Frisco, TX.
Im from texas and when you said, “breeze block of a face”, i just dyed. That was entertaining
Great video. Got goggles. Waiting for Controller and Geprc Cinego. They all say easy setup but good to actually see which button to clicky when! 😉 I am one of those old shool dudes who reads the manual first but I agree it is awesome to watch someone do it first! Gonna be diving deep into your DJI series! Thanks!
Great review...Just one point i cant stress enough especially for newbe`s....make sure you download the... FPV Assistant... and NOT any of the other MODEL variants from the website...if you don`t use the correct variant ...the system will not recognise any of the components (Goggles...Air unit...or Radio) when you try to activate them.
Hey, careful with that case - I have the same one. Had to cut a hole in that inner mesh for antenna to go throu. Otherwise it was pressing quite hard, especially if I put anything into that mesh pocket. Apart of this it’s ok - I got tired unscrewing those antennas all the time, and now it’s a quick setup. And thx for the video!
Great video thanks for explaining everything. Should have my goggles tomorrow to bind with my air unit and dji radio.
Hi. I’ve used the TrueRC X-Air double patch, but they suggested replacing the 2 top antennas. This seems to work very well and with 700mW I have flown out to 2.5km and still had 3 bars reception and 25Mbps. It is quite directional - more so than a patch on Fatsharks - I’d say you need to be pointing 30 degrees max either side of your model. I guess it doesn’t really matter if you replace top or bottom. From what I know, like you said, one of the top antennas does transmit as well. Great system. I keep my Fatsharks for analogue and this for HD.
You can shrink the screen down to adjust the fov to your liking
Great helpful video nice to see a uk user, I’m now getting into fpv and getting the DJI set up practicing on a simulator first this video will help me thanks.
Lots of great UK channels - check out AndyRC and CurryKitten too.. Happy flying!
Very good honest review.
One quick question, do the DJI Goggles RE edition work with the system or does it have to be the new FPV DJI Goggles? Looking at the spec, it seems the RE edition goggles cater for both analogue and digital. Thanks.
Great walkthrough. One point to mention is that you can get info like RSSI in the DJI OSD from your third party radio/controller through Betaflight and INav.
very nice thank you
Hiya. Thank you for taking the time to make this video, very helpful.
Could I ask, I have this dji system on a flying wing... is if possible to reverse a channel ( I.e. get elevator to move in opposite direction) on the remote control without having to do it in betaflight or inav. It's easy to reverse a channel on a radio like the terranis , but how would I do it on the dji remote?
If you are flying without connecting to a flight controller (ie a fixed wing) the power will not go above 25mw unless you turn off the power control option , then the power level will be what you set the max power to.
Can the controller be set up for airplane/wing?
Another great video! You've made a subscriber out of me.
Welcome aboard!
I love all your videos. I watch them when I can and when it applies to me, I know you made this video along time ago, but I am now trying to set up a jet with the older air unit and that remote control the same set up but not in the Drone. The problem that I’m having is that I can’t seem to configure IAV with the rockers switches for my camera or the momentary push switch on the right dial for the reverse thrust. Any ideas? I can’t find any literature anywhere about it. Anyway, if you happen to see this message, I would be so appreciative if you could bring me up to speed. Thank you and press on
What is IAV?
Thank you 😎 I’ve had mine for a about a month and love them. I did learn some stuff so Thanks 😊 ✌️
Hi Sean, pleased to hear that some of that was news to an existing user. Can I ask which bits?
Painless360 ya Thanks 😊 I went with the foam because I suspected the 3D shins for the side wouldn’t do it. You kinda confirmed my suspicions. The two bottom antenna are only receiving 🤔 I don’t recall hearing that before (who reads hard copy anymore ) jk 😁 I had the air unit and everything already going so I’m glad to know I can refer back to this to upgrade software. If I think of something more I’ll let you know. Question 🤔 pardon the teck ignorance, do patches help with penetration as well as directional? Love the channel 😎✌️❤️
3D shims
You say the power output is 25mW, but is that adjustable to higher watts should I visit the US/other countries with these goggles??
Brilliant realistic review- thank you, so many reviews saying “yee-har I’m flying 17miles away”
I was gonna buy these goggles as I’m have a real hard time learning FPV (I can’t get on with a sim) I purchased a mobula7 tried using with fat sharks to learn, but keep either smashing it into the ceiling or crashing into the ground (also have freestyle & iCloud 149 but fly mainly line of sight). So I was thinking of a DJI WiFi drone to learn fpv as the gps will give me thinking time- ok it’s not ideal and an expensive way to learn but it’s a step.
But thanks to your review -which I genuinely appreciate- I’ll think I’ll buy box goggles & stuff my phone in it to fly my mavic mini.
I seem to be throwing money into a hobby I should enjoy but keep meeting with frustration!
Love the comment: if you move country you can adjust channels for further distance -BIG BIG WINK!!
Thanks for the comment. I too shared your frustration with those first video on it as they were all filmed outside the EU (USA mainly) and didn't address the elephant in the room. i.e. what's the range and performance when you fly with legal power! I made this video as when I got mine I couldn't find a simple video that covered what I needed that wasn't a 'Yee-hah 17m range!!' video ;). Happy flying!
What about if you have two air units?
Great video! But, I’d like to know if the goggles will act as a simple display if plugged into the DJI smart controller or, if there’s anything that will? I have a mavic air 2 and fancy the fpv experience.
I don't have the Smart controller so not sure. Best of luck with it..
Thanks for the Video! I would love to have the digital fpv-stuff... but I dont have enough money:/
I waited till January to get it. It's more for the videos showing how things connect and compare to it rather than for the system itself..
Great video! I love my DJI FPV system. But, I have always flown fixed wing with a monitor as apposed to goggles for LOS and situational awareness. You said there is a coming firmware update that will allow you to use the smart controller instead of the goggles? Or, together? (using goggles as receiver?) Also, I had heard DJI used a USB out of the goggles to display on a screen at the product reveal. So, I guess it's possible that might become available??? Thanks for all your good work!
Goggles to the Smart controller. I only have the same detail shown in the video... happy flying!
great video! thanks :)
I have DJI FPV system. Using Crossfire RX and Tango 2. I just realised I shouldn't buy Crossfire RX to every quad that have DJI ...just buy the DJI transmitter and no more RX to solder in, no setup configuring, no antenna and finally no OpenTX.
Yep, and it works great too...
Awsome thank you for sharing
I built a Catalyst Machine Works Bang God 5” today and put my first DJI FPV unit in it. I only bought the goggles and air units, not the controller.
I wired in a Jumper R1 receiver and everything is now activated and bound. Had a mini test hover in angle mode in my living room and everything seems to be working. Maiden flight tomorrow, weather permitting.
A couple of quick questions if I may. I don’t like where the onscreen information is displayed. I wear glasses and it seems way off to the side and awkward to focus on if you’re trying to concentrate on where you’re going. Can you configure the OSD info in Betaflight?
I didn’t buy the DJI transmitter and I’m wondering whether it’s worth buying - as it’s advertised to have quite a long range. I’m currently using a Jumper T16, which I like, and trying to decide between getting a long range module (IRC Ghost or Crossfire) or just sell my analogue transmitters and commit 100% to the DJI system?
Check out the Lockdown build where I put the DJI stuff in a wing. Moving the elements in the regular OSD tab in Inav/Betaflight should move the elements in the goggles... Unless you use the higher powers on the DJI stuff a regular radio will give you more range for control. Happy flying
To be honest I need an OSD and I think I’d much rather get the Herelink. But totally think this is a great product.
I hope that DJI do some more work on the OSD, it's very basic. Happy flying!
nice video
that was great thank you so much cheers
Can I use the goggles, air unit and my own RC? (Turnigy RC)
Yes you can.
Would it be possible to configure Airmode to only be on at say less than 10% throttle using this controller with the HD version of say the Beta95x v3? Since the controller does not have a screen... How would you be able to get the throttle on an aux channel?
Not using their controller. You'd have to look at the settings on the flight controller... Happy flying
Due to current situation in the uk at pressent, I have been restricted in flying my big helis, I am considering getting the DJI Goggles, Am i better off also buying the DJI radio to go with it. I fly my helis with a Jeti DS24. Great watching your videos, I like the idea of the FPV, Its really caught my eye now I am getting the buzz for these drones
The DJI FPV controller is very basic and needs a system on the other end that is very configurable to map everything easily. If you already have a radio you love there isn't any real need to change it..
@@Painless360 Thank you for your quick reply, I think from reading and being new to this field, I would be better off with the complete Goggles and transmitter setup, which 5/7 inch drone would you recommend. I see you have to buy charge pack for goggles, I have allowed £1500 to start me off
Check out my Kit Picks 2020 video.. Best of luck
I'm thinking about buying the goggles and a quad....but I need to know if I should just get the dji controller or just stick with my radiomaster? I might add crossfire much later to the radiomaster. But it's the dji controller better and easier? Or just keep using open tx?
I use both and the FPV controller is simple to use but had very little configurability. If I'm flying DJI HD then I use the DJI radio, RadioMaster/Taranis for everything else..
I just got the kit the other day but can't seem to get past a problem with the firmware I'm having. I updated the firmware in the three components (Aircraft, Controller and Goggles) using the DJI Assistant 2 For FPV but afterwards when I go to crank up the aircraft, there are two red flags in the goggles that say the following:
Message 1 "Aircraft firmware version out of date"
Message 2 "Remote Controller firmware version out of date"
When the goggles are first connected, i GET A MESSAGE ON CENTER SCREEN TO UPDATE THE FIRMWARE USING THE "DJI Fly" App.
Just thought I'd check to see if you may have come across this . The DJI Tech Support guy wasn't any help. I spent hours on hold and getting cutoff so they've been no help.
Is that V1 of the goggles or the new V2 that comes with the little quad? I've not got the V2 here..
@@Painless360 The new V2 FPV Drone Combo with the “little quad” recently released.
Thanks for a great video! Very helpful! As someone who's new to the hobby, could you tell me, do I still need to use Betaflight to configure the quad and controller or can everything be done through the menus on the goggles? Thank you.
It's changing all the time but I'd always setup a Quad first using the Betaflight configurator..
@@Painless360 Thank you!
I've tried them as well as Fat Sharks. All good BUT in the interest of making money(I too like making money) many products are presented to convince us we can't live without them. My only bit of advise too the younger pilots, Never be the first one to try out a new product or idea/concept as in the case of digital FPV. Still relatively new. Many bugs to work out, NO OSD yet, Let others with more cash try it out for @ least 1 year. Then when all looks ok and all the shortcomings are revealed, Then if you still want it... BUY IT! 💖
Yep. Hence the lack of hype here ;)
@@Painless360 Yes sir, that's why we all watch your channel 👍 keep up the excellent reviews.
Thanks for the thorough review as usual. Do you know if there is any support for LiveStream via the DJI FPV system, similar to what's available with the Mavic or Phantom?
I've not seen any. If you find some, let me know... best of luck!
@@Painless360 Thanks for the reply. Will do!
I recently bought the goggles alone, and I 3d printed a new front to replace the black part, I added a tbs fusion module and it does work well. However I find the goggles to be hard to use, there are too many cables found back and forth. Anyone know where I can buy a special made cable for this mod? Or even where I can buy a 20 cm 4 connector minijack.. ?
(I made mine 100% like "funali" here on RUclips)
I bought 2 of the analog modules from banggood, both came with much shorter cables then the one you have..
thnxxx
You have to buy a module for fatshark I’d rather buy a case then module
Can you turn the air unit on / off using a channel on a receiver instead of flight ctrlr?
Yes, if you use something like an RC controller switch. Vendors like MenaceRC make them. Check out that the current capacity is enough to supply the unit easily...
Great video mate
Wish that it could do me good on long distance FPV on planes
Have the connex pro sight HD and it's just not as good as I hoped but it old news now 😅
Stay safe and healthy my friend
Cheers
Lase
The DJI Digital HD system has a limit of 4km (uses the video signal RSSI to detect the limit I understand) but you'd need to push the power to the maximum to get that range...
@@Painless360 I heard if you power up to 1200 you can get that kind of range but it's illegal here in Denmark
2 km range without signal loss would do me very well 🤔
Could sound like a good idea then
Again thanks for all your very helpful information and advice
Cheers mate
@@laseonestar A friend of mine flew to almost 6km with a plane. (Crossfire)
On youtube "Dustin Dunnill" had similar results on 700mw. So yes, 2km is VERY possible.
I wana get DJI airunit my only concerns is wont the V2 be out very soon? ?One other minor concern is I would have too also buy new frames as now there making dedicated dji frames!! Don't think I could squeeze the airunit in a astro X5
Don't forget the licensed compatible air units too... happy flying!
I've had no luck whatsoever getting the av out to work on my smart controller, everything is up to date, do you have any idea how to do get it working.
I don't have a Smart Controller, sorry..
I can't stop staring at Slave I...
I bought a predator rc drone off temu. How can i run it off a dji flight controller.
What receiver does it have in it? What does the manual for it show? Those are the places to start...
hey i m new to the hd world. I just purchased the babyhawk 2 hd which im waiting for to arrive and i bought the dji goggles v1 already. I have been flying tinny whoop Eachine AE65 - crossfire using my aomway v1 goggles and tango 2. Is there a way i could fly my tiny whoop using the dji goggles somehow instead of the aomways?
You can add an analogue receiver to the DJI goggles. See my video on it in the series.. best of luck
I have a question please
Great video as always by the way,,
I am planning to get the iflight DC3 , and dji fpv system with dji controller,
I though that I am not going to need betaflight anymore, but in bnggood states that :
if you use your own DJI Remote Controller, you need to update betaflight to 10.6.0 to set up and bind your DJI remote controller.
I'm confused, why do I need beta flight ?
thanks a lot in advance for your kind help
Yes you need Betaflight, the DJI system replaces the radio (via SBUS) and the video only.. See the rest of the series and the review videos of the 'DJI HD' models on the channel. Best of luck!
@@Painless360 Thanks a lot,
I will ,
you are the best ,
Awesome informative video as always. I've ordered the DJI fpv system and while I'm waiting for it to arrive I am concerned about the two screens. They remind me of fat sharks, which I do not like. I fly all my fpv with my face box headplay HD goggles. it's 16 by 9 IMAX, one massive screen in front of your face. While I've tried fat sharks it looks like the screen is too small and looking down a hallway. I'm concerned that the DJI FPV system will be similar to the fat sharks more than the headplay HD which is what I love. I haven't found any videos comparing the DJI screen size to a face box style goggle. How does the DJI goggles screen compare to the headplay HD? Thanks for any info and your help.
If you've liked how things look in those box goggles you should love these. Huge FOV and feels like looking at one large panel... Happy flying!
I had the same concern. I fly the eachine goggles two box goggles when not flying my dji setup. which isn't often just for my indoor whoop. I think the screen is bigger than the box goggle. So no worries there. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED in the screen size or quality. I have been flying mine almost every day since January, and I'm still impressed with the image.
You will be very happy with Dji
😀Excellent video......But I need HELP.😳
I followed the instructions but when I plugged the goggles (13:07) I didn't get that Icon, I heard the "tururu😁" when I connected the cable but nothing happened 😳😢. I used different USB ports and I heard the noise but nothing...... whyyyyyy😢😢?
Are you powering the goggles with a battery?
@@Painless360 yes I am.... 3s 11.1v.. the goggles are on and ask me for registration.
I'd try another cable..
@@Painless360 ..... Seems like I got a defective cable, I tried another cable and that solved my problem.... thank you.
Hi painless360 I have the armattan marmotte with the DJI goggles and controller
I was wondering on the arm sequence on the DJI air unit controller how far do you set a switch in betaflight?
It's as normal. Flick the switch on the radio and watch in the Reciever tab in Betaflight to see what channel it relates to.Setup the 'Arm' mode sliders to bracket the channel values in the 'Modes' tab. See how I did it for the HOLYBRO and GepRC DJI Digital HD quads I've reviewed over the last two weeks... Happy flying
@@Painless360 cheers thank you... I really appreciate your time.... Not to mention the editing part
what does this switches mean on the Remote controller like SA SB SC and SD
SA = 'switch A' and so on. They have the same names in the menus to make setup easier . Happy flying
If I buy the goggles and controller bundle can I then just buy any rtf drone that has the dji air unit installed? I’m a beginner practicing in a sim so sorry if this is a stupid question
Yep, that'll work. Happy flying!
I cant seem to get my laptop to recognise the goggles,I dont have the software pop up on dji assistant 2🙈🙈
It could be lots of things. Driver, cable etc. What troubleshooting have you tried?
@@Painless360 I managed to get it bruv, I put the power cable in last whilst running the dji assistant 2,then the pop up appeared, thanks for your reply and I hope this helps someone else 👍
Whats the difference between mode 1&2 on dji remote? I’m confused...
Mode 2 has the left hand stick as the throttle. Mode 1 is the opposite.
@@lmfdjtiko thank you, just ordered mode 2
Hey Lee, given the latest firmware updates, do you have advice on the best settings?
What kind of model and FC?
Painless360 it’s just the air unit in a Bixler. No FC. I was wondering 25 or 50mps and low latency or high quality etc?
I fly with the 25mps and low latency for the fastest speed. You could get away with a higher quality on the Bixler (it's not a fast model) but you need to see what you prefer.. Best of luck!
Can I use my DX-6e
Remote controller with the new DJI FPV goggles?
I’m new to all this. I purchased the
Nazgul5 V2 BNF quadcopter,
How do all these bind together?
Help anyone
Lots of basics you'll need first. ruclips.net/video/4iqKp-7RQkk/видео.html should helo
Is camera switching a possibility with something like the Matek f405? I don't have the DJI system, but I've seen you can purchase just the digital camera. Would it be possible to have two cams pass their video signal through the camera switch, then back to the DJI VTX?
I've not seen a digital FPV switcher. The ones about are for analogue that I've seen... Happy flying
@@Painless360 oops, I meant Matek F722 Wing. Thanks for the response!
See my Nano Drak build. I set that up... Happy flying!
Was thinking about moving over to HD from Analogue. My problem is that I don’t use inav but rely on osd for battery status, Altitude and distance. Is it possible to get these things with out connection to a flight controller?
Sadly not.
@@Painless360 that is a shame. Is it possible to connect it to any other type of flight controller or is it just inav?
Most flight control software now has the ability to run the OSD in the DJI goggles - I've used Ardupilot, Betaflight and INAV here..
@@Painless360 that’s more encouraging. I always use kopilot for the ease of use. I just can’t see that working on anything like dji unfortunately. Might have to consider changing my flight controller to something like Ardupilot. Thanks for your reply, much appreciated.
Did your controllers left stick come like that ( pushed down) my left stick is centred right in the middle and i dont know how to change it, any advice?
Mine is a mode 2 radio. Sounds like yours shipped as something else. I'd check with who you bought it from... Happy flying
Hi! My googles don't work. I have a message "image transmission stopped" they don't bind and most menues are inaccessible. Can anybody help?
From my quick search of the forums this points to a problem with the Air Unit. I'd try the goggles with another Air Unit (if you have one) to rule that out.. Best of luck!
@@Painless360 thanks a lot for answering! I managed to bind the googles to the vista unit at last :-) I had to try multiple pushes on the mini bind buttons on the googles before they actually decided to connect. Typical digital buggy behavior to me.
But strangely there are still two menus that are greyed and they are important to me! It's the low latency mode and the camera menu. I also have only Two channels plus a channel 8 for public while the AUDIENCE menu is also greyed and inaccessible...
Thank but please, do you have a link to the foam?
I got mine from a UK seller. They can be tricky to find in Stock..
Is there a reason why when linking the controller to the air unit that the controller will beep constantly even though both are green and connected. In addition to that it wont arm in person even though it responds in betaflight. Is there a solution to this?
Are the switches in the default positions and the throttle at its lowest point? What have you already tried?
@@Painless360 I fixed the controller beeping but after a little while the drone begins to beep and it wont respond to my controller even though when im in betaflight the graph shows movement with the controller
I got a power to low cannot record videos on my screen. What do i do to be able to record?
Don't worry it'll start to record when you arm the model..
Is there a way to transfer data from an f7 controller with inav to the dji goggles via the Dji HD fpv tx?
Yes, see my videos on it and the lockdown build where I set that up... best of luck
@@Painless360 I dont see a video with "lockdown" in the title. I found one that was a build where betaflight was used but the controller was pre connected and pre loaded with betaflight. Unfortunately that wont help me. I need to know how to connect the flight controller to the dji hdvideotx and use my own receiver. Im not using the dji transmitter. What video do you have for that?
Hi I did the 50 bitrate update there and it reset my gear back to 25mw and I can’t change the bitrate have you herd this before ? Thanx
I've not heard of that, let me know when you get to the bottom of it.. Best of luck!
Painless360 thanx for your speedy reply I watched ur video about it and you said it didn’t affect the fcc hack which I was happy with because one of my dji drones is a Nitemare to get the sd card out off it’s a bumblebee so I did the update and to be very fair you did say you hand not done it so flip lastnite was a Nitemare I am getting the reduced amount of channels and I can see the frequency of the channels but I am at 25mw and it won’t let me change the bitrate from 25 it’s just not highlighted any suggestions I tried to email DJI but there support system seems offline keep up your great work and very easy to follow reviews thanx again
Hi goto the bottom of what happened turns out it wiped the fcc hack so when I did it again it works perfectly so you must have to do the fcc hack otherwise it won’t work
Can you bind the HD DJI rx/vtx to a non dji tx
Nope, sadly not.
Is it possible to use your head tracker tutorial with the DJI Transmitter and receiver? I'm not sure how as the air unit is all in one
You usually need another input from the radio from the head tracker and there isn't one on the DJI controller..
@@Painless360 thanks for the reply. I assume it's the port to connect 2 controllers in training mode?
First! great vid.
