  • Our 1999 Jeep Wrangler TJ with a 4.0 L needs a new oil pan. To many rocks were the cause and now we’re finally getting to it. We might as well change the rear main seal since were already in there.

Great video Darren and Harley . I replaced my rear main seal quite a few years ago and did it exactly the same way except mine does not have the ears. Being that it doesn't have the ears I off set the seal. Knock on wood I have not had any problems with it. Catch you guys on your next video. Take care guys.

Just got mine back from the dealer shop. Still leaks. They are claiming it the manual transmission leaking 🙄

Im on the third attempt... In less than 100 miles it starts leaking again. The shop I took it says its plain worn out, although the bearings look great and it runs great. Maybe time for a new shop ?

That’s too bad. I want to blame the engine but 4.0’s have very little problems. We will agree you need to look for another shop.

No leaks. We did RubiKidd’s TJ about 3yrs ago as well. Same everything and both have zero leaks.

Would it cause problems if the journal moved when cleaning putting it back close to where it was and would it seat back to the exact same spot when bolted up ?

I’m assuming it would but Im cautious about telling you it’s okay without seeing it myself.

Pro Tip: Power Wash the Jeep before you start the process, of course give it a day to dry off.
