I find it interesting how all the character models are really just 4 layered sprite gifs! I found it very clever that R* got away with making all the models like that, knowing we would never find out without hacks.
The short drawing distance gives me strong DRIVER 2 vibes. That's how we played 3d open world games back in the PS1 era. It was horrible and we loved it

If you understand what "retrospect" means, then yes. From a retrospective standpoint, this would of been a great way of minimising ram usage in the early days of 3d gaming. I'm not saying that it'd be clever if anybody did it now, but the whole concept of 3d worlds with 2d sprites is pretty ingenious if you think about it.

Robin Roos The PSP version is a port of the DS version. As you can see it has updated graphics, all new radio stations, as well as all new missions that weren't in the DS version.
They are flat and drawn from a top down angle to accommodate the camera. And because they changed the camera in the mod, the sprites are no longer viewed properly, they are still drawn with a top down view in mind. They will never look right with this angle unless somebody completely redraws them again which would make them look wrong again in the top down angle.

The game was already in 3d, except for being a top-down perspective. The modders did a good job in changing the camera position, so we can see the game in ACTUAL 3d. GTA CW is basically the top down camera in GTA 3 tbh

I like how this game has alot of tiny details including blinkers, hotwire, car alarms, make your own molotov at a gas station, etc
Damn this brings back memories. I had it on PSP and I enjoyed it at lot, probably as much as any other GTA. Don't have my PSP anymore, I was thinking about buying it for the iPad but eh, I'm not sure it will be as good...

this actually looks like that simpsons GTA game.
The game was already in 3d, except for being a top-down perspective. The modders did a good job in changing the camera position, so we can see the game in ACTUAL 3d. GTA CW is basically the top down camera in GTA 3 tbh
Rockstar should have a "top down" GTA series running parallel to the main series.

Remember rock and rolling this game back in 2009 in my Nintendo original Ds. Great times, would spend time tattooing, playing the lottery, and most importantly go crazy with the gameplay. I hope they can make a definitive edition of this game in 3D.

I don't get something: If they were able to make PSP GTA games with the detail and perspective of the GTA3 generation, why use a top down view?
It was originally made for Nintendo DS, then it got ported to PSP, with new shaders and slightly higher resolution textures

GTA ChinaTown was a great game.
That's the beauty of the game, going back to its roots.
I love the DS version a lot more than GTA4 Trilogy combined. The use the DS gameplay was great, and drug dealing is actually quite fun in the game.
They need to do a remake!
