Accepting and appreciating our lives as they are, and then deciding on areas you want to improve and work on, is what we should be aiming for. Fulfilment doesn’t only come from having creative impressive, exciting lives. Many love security and stability, and routine. I find meaning from watching the local wildlife, from reading great books, and from just finding gratitude in what I have.

Mary is 100% right about this. I'm also a 28 year old, a software engineer, and this has been my life for the past 5 years. No friends, no wife, no kids, nothing to do after work; just go to work, go home, do nothing, rinse repeat. It gets depressing. I have a nice house and a nice car; none of it matters. I'd rather live on a farm. I've been unemployed for a few months due to layoffs, and part of me struggles to determine if I want to go back.

I've been saying it for years now: this is not how people are meant to live. We were made to live in small tribes, where you see all of your friends and family every day. Surrounded by people. You sit down to eat dinner with everyone you know and love every night. I think it's the reason people watch shows like How I Met Your Mother, Friends, etc, and long for those lives. What they're longing for is a life where they can spend at least a portion of every day around people they care about and who enrich their lives. The isolation many people experience these days is not natural.

Well, that's on you my dude, You are the one who's gotta work on what's missing in your life, it's not to society to "dictate" what should be "fulfilling" to people. The other guys got it right; sometimes you gotta risk a "stable a and secure" job for something you may find more "fulfilling" but may offer less stability

The biggest regrets everyone always has on the deathbed is that they didn't spend more time with friends and family, it's never that they didn't make more money etc.

When my dad was in his 20s, he had a job selling insurance. What was he doing in his freetime? Training for the Olympics. You can have a boring job but lead an exciting life outside of it. It doesn’t have to be either/or.

That “boring guy” has a nice place, a dog, and a stable job. That’s more than I have, although I’m still fairly content with my routine and life generally. If he/people like him can’t find ways to find meaning and enjoyment in their lives, that’s on them. They could volunteer, read more, join a club, study part-time etc, or consider changing career. And we’re all a bit different - a 9-5 with a decent home etc is pretty good for many people. We need people to do these jobs - AI isn’t all that.

Yeah, I agree with Matt Walsh, there's nothing innately wrong with that 9-5 video, other than that it's blatantly manipulative. No one is entitled to have their job be totally enriching and fulfilling, and as no one was 1000 years ago. Brett is correct. Get a job, save up some money, and then figure out what you need in your life, and how to get there.

17:18 My guy, what are you talking about? That's the Elder Futhark from the 1st century, a Proto-Norse written language (as found on Arstad Stone 390-590 AD) that later became Younger Futhark in Scandinavia at the end of the 8th century. It is said the All-Father Odin had to sacrifice something important to gain its knowledge. So he gave his eye, and dropped it in Mimir’s well and he threw himself on his spear, Gungnir. He then hung himself on a branch of Yggdrasil, the tree of life, for nine days and nine nights peering into the waters of the cosmos to gain knowledge of other worlds and understand the runes.
    Those symbols on the radio
    ᛟ (Othala - possession, heritage or estate) = O
    ᛉ (Algiz - "Elk" or protection, defence) = Z
    ᛞ (Dagaz - "Day") = D
    ᚨ (Ansuz - "God") = A
    ᛈ (Peorð - Unknown) = P
    ᚠ (Fehu - It usually means wealth) = F
ᛜ (Ingwaz - "the god Ingwaz") = ŋ it's the voiced velar nasal sound "Eng" in words like Singing.

1:18:41 The primary thing to do, if anyone tries psychedelics for the first time for any given reason, is to go with the flow and not to fight the experience. Even if it takes a dark turn, those usually end up turning back into the light so to speak, and being the beginning of the most profound part of the experience. Statistically there's about a 10% chance of having a bad trip, but trying to fight against it raises those bad trip odds astronomically. Having a loved one or really good friend with you is nice too, an calming anchor if you get too nervous.

I disagree with that 9 to 5 video. You can put sad piano music to anybodies lifestyle and make it look unfulfilled. Its a state of mind.. many people work crap jobs and are happy. Especially that guy look at his house if anything i got the exact opposite meaning from it. It was someone who had everything yet was still depressed.

17.12 - Two RUNES next to the number 53 on the radio dial are ELDER FUTHARK, the first is FEHU (Wealth/associated with Freya/Freyja) and the second is ALGIZ (Protection/Faith in the Gods). Scandinavian/Celtic origins, how they wrote. Lots of condemnation from the christians on this pod, what's that all about? As an Atheist I fail to see the interest in others belief systems and how they practice same. Live and let live. Cheers from the UK.

Why do you think life should be exciting. The problem is you were raised thinking life should be fulfilling. Before the Industrial Revolution all they had was farms they worked all day until it was time to go to bed. They didn’t have time to mess around. They had a few hours at the end of the day to relax and talk and then they went to bed. Before modern times people didn’t think about being fulfilled. They didn’t want to change the world. Before automobiles they didn’t have machines to do the earth they had to pull a plow with a horse or if they didn’t have a horse they had to use a plow tool that they pushed themselves or pulled behind them I don’t know what they looked like but they had to walk the rows or they had to dig the ground with a shovel i don’t know but they put people to death for stealing a horse or a cow. This guy that was a truck driver I used to drive across country and I liked it but I was going to try to get a job locally because my friends wanted to be able to hang out with me and I kinda wanted to hang out with them but I am used to being alone not that I don’t like people I just can get along alone because I don’t want to go out or have to make plans after work even though I like hanging out once I get together but the planning and work to get together is a hassle. By the way the man that Elon Jennings gave his seat to was Richie valens and other people on the plane were the big bopper buddy Holly and I think someone else but they all died in the crash. That’s in the movie labamba

Sam Seder and the guy from "Some More News" (don't know his name) are more "based" when it comes to A.I than Tim Pool, Ben Shapiro and Jordan Peterson combined. They don't believe it should replace human art and creativity. Or women for that matter. Unlike Tim Pool and Ben Shapiro.
