Lighting Up the Sky With Chinese Lanterns

In Nanjing, China, celebrating the Chinese New Year isn’t complete without the Qinhuai lanterns. Lighting up the sky each year, the lanterns are part of a tradition that has been passed down for thousands of years. Made mostly of bamboo, each lantern has an important story or meaning and is believed to bring good fortune. Yeliang Gu comes from a lantern-making family and started the craft when he was just 8 years old. All year, he stays busy preparing for that one special night. Join in the celebration as Gu’s creations light up the sky.
