Very distinctive character. Very interesting. Straight, no mistake, perform by textbook kinda guy but unlike other stereotypical character, he's not depicted like a nerd or cold character. He's rather has a smile of a bully or villian and stands against maverick to tell him what's wrong with him. Maverick is doing something obviously endangering the team but since he's the protagonist, it blinds the audience to make it seems like Iceman is the wrong side. I glad i got to know him even though it's too late.. like 35 years late
@@MiguelRodriguez-dk2ds Always my favorites, like Johnny from Karate kid 1 for example. Ever since I was a kid I always routed for him and not for Daniel 😂
it blinds the audience to make it seems like Maverick is the wrong side. some1 who loves doing what he does and caring for his team a lot. hard to understand that for textbox guys
even without Mav being the protagonist; Ice is too self assured & has an aura of extreme superiority that would make him easy to hate. Ice might have been very competent but him constantly staring down Mav as if he's nothing but a tiny kid & constantly asserting dominance gets a bit too much.
This film is so full of macho energy that still stays positive somehow. When people bitch about "toxic masculinity", they should watch this film. Another one is Youngblood. They're both crash courses in how men interact and compete with each other.
"You! [Pointing at Maverick] You are still dangerous. You can be my wingman anytime!" The former rivals becoming friends and hugging each other, the huge smile on Iceman's face, the aircraft carrier's crew cheering with Harold Faltermeyer's superb Top Gun Anthem blaring, ever since I saw this flick as a kid more than thirty years ago, to me this scene has epitomized the elation of newfound friendship like few other in movie history.
I really like Tom. He was a little egotistic and stuck up at first but it was very slight compared to some people and he never let those qualities effect those around him the way Pete would. He doesn’t really pick arguments or fights with Pete because he is competition but because he sees the danger that follows when Pete doesn’t look before he leaps. Tom is very logic driven whereas Pete is very gut instinct driven. It was bound to tick him off. Tom actually cares about the consequences of actions and warns Pete several times about them. He truly cared for Pete when Goose died which really is so sweet. I love that scene ☺️ Young men + competition and some ego = Iceman and Maverick’s relationship at first. But they ended up becoming great friends when they met each other half way and formed a non romantic bromance 😂 This movie is one of my absolute favorites.
They just added so much back history in Maveric to what happened after this. Starts off hating the guy, ends up watching his back for the rest of his life. A life or death situation can bond you for life.
I really love Ice. It saddens me to see someone speak ill of him about Goose's death. Don't mess with his enemies until Wingman retreats. There were rules. Iceman had no choice but to leave as Maverick forced his way in. Then there is the unfortunate accident. It doesn't make sense to think badly of the Iceman.
Maverick saved his life and they fought side by side in a real combat situation. That changes you forever. Also he had first hand experience of why pilots like Maverick are important even when protocol hates them. It's not like he could ever let him down after that.
At 2:54, you can see what a great actor Tom Cruise is. When Ice starts talking, we can see Maverick’s fist shaking with emotion for obvious reasons. So much so that he has to grip the locker to get control. It’s the little things like this that Cruise does very well.
2 combat scenarios a day with 10 classes in between? How in the fuck did that fit into a daily schedule? I bet it took an hour or two ALONE just to pre-flight and take off from the air station.... THEN they gotta FLY to where they are performing the missions, RETURN and Debrief? THEN attend classes?
Hi! That also confused me when I watched the movie. Recently, though, I've read the screenplay and turns out that Viper actually says "two combat missions a day, attend classes in between", which definitely makes much more sense.
Hangman is Iceman and Maverick's perfect combination, but I still believe he is more Iceman than Mav. Jake proved himself an arrogant man with a heart of gold, just like Ice in the first movie.
The iceman hairstyle.. a slightly longer and better version of Ivan drago! Tom made sure val had a role in top gun Maverick to ensure he hit a pay day! Due to illness val hasn’t been able to work and I believe has money issues
I must be in a minority of women who has seen this film several times and likes the film but has never crushed on any of the characters in it. I totally get why other women do/did. They were good-looking pilots, but it was the second film, not the first, that I was drooling 😂😂 Hangman, Rooster and an older Maverick - oooh yes! ❤ Plus I loved the storyline and character development in Top Gun: Maverick as well. Good in every way.
I always think that cougar was number one he was scared but he thought about his family that why he give up to gun but he was better than ice men and maverick
He says, “this is not personal, but with regard to Maverick.” He’s about to ask if Maverick should really be joining them on their mission because Maverick has been struggling to fly after the death of his best friend.
In the movie, he proceeds to say "with regards to Maverick, are you sure he's the best... [at this point he is interrupted by Stinger, the commander, and the rest of the sentence cannot be heard. In the script, the question is 'Nothing personal Sir, but is that the best backup you've got?', but many details were changed from the original text so it isn't possible to surely affirm that this is what was said]". Stinger then answers with "I know what's on your mind, Kazansky, just get on it". It is safe to assume Iceman (Tom Kazansky) meant to point out that Maverick had had difficulty to engage in aerial combat since the death of Goose, his RiO (guy who flew with him). That would be because they were about to engage in a real battle (their first mission after Top Gun training), where they could actually get killed, and having an unstable and insecure Maverick as backup could literally cost Iceman's life (and everyone else's). This specific scene happens 1 hour and 28 minutes into the movie.
