How to install Shimano Di2 for a perfect stealth look and no cable vibration

- Installing a road Di2 is fairly straightforward, but what if you wanted it perfect? We show you how we hide all the cables and junctions and install everything through frames and handlebars so all cables are hidden and impossible for them to rattle and vibrate. Part one shows all the parts, and lays out all the cables, and where to locate everything. We also cover tools to use. Part 2 shows you how to tidy and manage the cables and finish off for a smooth, invisible installation. We are using a Shimano Ultegra R8050 series Disc Di2 groupset. But this can be the same for Dura Ace.
Sram na takie shimano...;)
Your video is probably the best on YT.
Still... it makes me even a greater SRAM fan.
Thank you.
Nice video next time just no music would make it great 👍
Perfect video - Thanks.
You're welcome!
Thumbs up for rondo!
wow so many cables :D
Great video! Can you please write the size of the handlebar and y-cable (or factory No.)? ("Frame cable" is given and junc-to-BT can be seen well...) I would like to clean up my cables from the front and yours seems to be the smartest solution. Thank you!
Thanks. Don’t have time for that right now, but a scan through the Shimano site will see you right.
Can you make a video retrofitting Di2 on frames without internal cabling?
February 2023
Umm. I don’t think it will be very popular anymore, what with wireless etc.
@@Mapdec it doesnt have to be a brandnew build🫣🫣🫣✌️✌️✌️
Nice video . Very cleans . If my frame is s-works sl6 size 49 . Handle size 40 . What length cable i need to look so clean like you do ??
Length
Y-cable =
D-fly =
Downtube =
Fd =
Rd =
I would just get the longest. A bit of extra cable will crunch up and keep it quiet. Good luck with the build.
Hi, great video! just one question, will this lay out/connecting of junction/bluetooth/cables etc work fine on the Shimano Ultegra R8070 DI2 disc version?! Thanks!
This was the disc version.
Thanks. This is the exact setup I'm using for my gravel bike. How do you like the EW-JC130 Y-cable? So many people say it's not worth the price.
Cost less then getting 2 normal cables and a junction box. Unless you want to add additional shiftier pods/buttons on the tops I think you can use 2 ports on the levers. That way you can chain everything together without needing a Y or junction in the bars, but still close to the same cost since you need a extra wire.
Great video by far on yt. Just one question where do you purchase the kit from I'm looking to upgrade my bike to the same kit as you're using there. all I need is the shifters front and rear mech and the electronic Components wires battery charger Bluetooth.
From your local bike shop! Show them this video and they will know what to do.
Merlin cycles are the best value. Just got mine and will be fitting in the next week or 2.
Always ask your local shop first. They will price match. And maybe they will make vids like this for you.
I did ask my local shop first and they couldn’t even get it as cheap from the distributor before selling to me at even a small profit.
I agree the video is fantastic though 👍
The expense of doing this is not gone over . I just bought a DI2 Cannondale Synapse with 303 Zipps in mint condition for $2100 which is about the cost of these components
Doesn’t say much about the quality of a Synapse frame. Or maybe it says more about the crazy way the industry works.
Wera hex rules!
I'm curious why did you stuff the WU111 Bluetooth junction inside the handlebars with the bar end A junction, wouldn't it have been better to put that near the battery?
Great question. Really to stop it rattling and for line of sight to Garmin devices. The cable in the seatpost needs to be kept slack to remove seatpost easily. The Y Cable is a great help in keeping a clean look, but you could do the same with a normal cable and run it from a lever port. You would struggle to fit sprint or climb switches in the future though.
@@Mapdec Thanks. Possible you can share what size Y cable did you get and if you had extra cable left? I'm running 44cm bars and struggling to figure this out.
Just get the longest. I think it is 550mm a little extra cable length helps pad it out and reduce vibration.
@@Mapdec You don't have any issues with the wireless working through aluminum bars (or were those carbon)?
Another way to help reduce any chatter is tiny zip ties which seem to help decent enough
Great tip. We did this in the handlebar too.
Zip ties will rattle after some time when they sit in…
Hi, i am wondering to Di2 the bar end juction box with ultegra 6870 shifter that only have 1 port. 6870 shifter is cheaper so i thought i could compensate with extra Y split wire? Will it work?
Yep. Sketch it out. I think you will need a Cable join too.
Hi how to make the cable longer at the y split where you connected wu111? What if I don’t want to have the wireless unit? Thank you
You will just need the connector piece and another cable.
I've never done a di2 and was wondering with all this cable running inside the frame. The noice they make must be really annoying. no?
It can be. Hopefully this video will show you how to keep it quiet and neat.
Hi friend, what are the lengths of the cables you used?
Best to measure yourself really as all frames are different. Generally the longest possible for the run from jA to handlebars to help vibration noise.
What mount did you use to secure the battery in the seatpost?
Just an M:Part Di2 battery wedge.
Hi,
Would the 4 port junction box JC41 fit on the seat tube that is about 31mm?
Thanks.
On the seat tube. As in external? Why? So confused.
@@Mapdec Hi,
Yes internal, I have a custom Titanium bike and there not a lot of space on the BB area like a carbon frame.
I guess I could also try inside the handlebar but that might be more challenging.
Thanks.
You will find the BB shell will be drilled with access to the down tube.
Heloo, if i dont use dfly, i dont need Y cable?
Correct, just another really long cable to all the way from shifter, to the handlebar hole and through to the junction A.
Mapdec Cycle Works - Kendal how long do you use Y cable? 550+550+50?
