Have you watched the show yet?
I'm watching it as the episodes come out...and I'm LOVING it! superb acting and very well written. I'm also listening to the related podcast :-)
this is one of those shows that make tv history (in my opinion) .
Thanks for the interviews BAFTA guru
@@natural91LC I agree with you 100%, especially about making tv history. I've never been so gripped by a series. It's horrifying because it really happened. Episode 3 had the most horrific scene I've ever seen and I'm 51 and have seen a lot of horror films.
Yes. Brilliant show and actors!
My family and I are watching and each episode rips our guts out anew. It is compelling, horrifying, and tragic to have a glimpse into the trauma the Ukrainians suffered, and all of Europe.
It’s such a good series. I’m loving it.
GOT - 8 years of hard work will give us the best rating..
CHERNOBYL- hold my uranium.. 9.7 IMDb
*Graphite
I was going to say the last season of GOT deserved a 3.6 but actually it was pretty terrible.
@@capo328 I see what you did there:-)
@@samarvora7185 I see graphite on the floor.
@@GreyWind You're delusional. There is no graphite on the floor. Get yourself to the infirmary.
Chernobyl has become the highest rated show on IMDB.
Which it was already after episode 2. Now, i love the show, but concluding best of all time before it's all said and done, is kind of dumb. This show is indeed really well made, and quite realistic, has superb acting, and i thought episode 2 was a 10. But, it's quite normal for a "underdog" show to receive a lot of love, and especially when it releases in the midst of the dumpster fire which was season 8 of GoT. Some people are voting Chernobyl high as a middle finger to GoT. It's the small low budget show up against the mammoth.
Chernobyl needs to really show off some serious skills in the last episode to be consider better than Band of Brothers, which is without a doubt the best tv mini series ever made. If we bring in seasonal shows as well. Is Chernobyl really better than The Sopranos, Deadwood, Breaking Bad and The Wire? No. But it is indeed a great show so far.
@@FabledGentleman i think the ratings show that the series hit a special nerve. chernobyl isnt that much in the past and nuclear energy is still a thing so more people can relate to the subject. i mean... the most of us have, at least once, seen a nuclear power plant. near my hometown was one... people like what they can relate to.
It is absolutely deserve this
Well deserved. It is a masterpiece.
OFF ALL TIME!
Stellan Skarsgård made a tremendous job developing the character of Boris Shcherbina. He was so convincing, so authentic.
Agree, they both actually played great! Emily played wonderful as well but I don't like the idea of creating fake character just to satisfy some group of people(we all know who they are)
@@alexrybkovsky4648 I don't look from this point. I understand that it is a dramatization. So I'm fine with historical inaccuracies. The problem is that at that time I didn't see a lot of bright Soviet scientists to compare Legasov and Khomyuk. But I've seen a lot of Soviet bosses and party chiefs. And Shcherbina in "Chernobyl" is very genuine.
@@alexrybkovsky4648 Fake character, yes. However that character was composed of several scientists (some of them were women).
Alex Rybkovsky it’s nothing like that at all.
The character was there as a composite of hundreds of Scientists (Scientific community in general) that worked behind the scenes in solving this problem.
I have no Physics knowledge (though I did take high school Chemistry), but I would imagine Chernobyl would be a good subject studied in Physics courses in Universities and Colleges, because of the well documented real world effects.
@@victorx4648 ..Стеллан - это отпад головы!! Я 74года, помню всё тоже. Блин, Стеллан - просто наш человек!) Отличная работа!
Just hand them all the emmys and baftas.
"Good work everyone else, nice try, terribly sorry about the timing, but we're just all out of BAFTAs."
Golden Globe?
So true
They will probably give awards to Game of Thrones, like always, popularity wins awards
@@leoprese0 you cant say chernobyl is not popular
Im calling it right now - Chernobyl is gonna clean house on ANY award cermony.
Whatabout the Razzies?
Oh shit.
Maybe they can show in the theater so it can be up for a Oscar?
Its a mixed bag; I would say its a pretty harsh critique on russian government but a tribute to the russian/ukranian people.
Totally agree, this will win a lot of awards.
I'm all for these two in a buddy cop tv series. True Detective S4, anyone?
I can't stop laughing thinking about this!😂
Rat Sallad kinda agree. Sad, init. But I also feel like these kind of actors take so much pleasure and pride from the fact that they’re matured and cultivated character actors and no one recognized them as they move from roles to roles, a sign of a really great chameleon. No stardom would ruin them like these young actors fresh from drama schools and flung into fame unprepared.
Their relationship is one of the only bright spots in this series. The series is great, but so dark, but the chemistry between these two is awesome.
@@safespacebear Very true. When they hugged I smiled a little. The whole story is so BLEAK.
Stellan Skarsgård plays a detective in "River."
Skarsgard is wonderful in Chernobyl. I knew I was gonna be impressed by Jared Harris, but Skarsgard's performance... wow.
He does a classic character arc and all portrayed by a class actor.
The scene where Legasov says they've both got at best 5 years to live representing the "peak" of that arc. Skarsgards non verbal acting is a masterclass.
Agreed!! Emily Watson was amazing too!
"We need a new phone!" :)
Familly of genius
Him : Chernobyl and more
Son 1 : Vikings and more
Son 2 : Castle Rock + It and more
Son 3 : True blood amd more
father to the crazy clown, Floki the boat maker and Eric the vampire lol
Two brilliant Actors
Their screen chemistry is so on point and both act so fluidly and perfectly.
I'm not here for bromance or anything. Just more scenes with these two together. Their amazing chemistry in 5 episodes is better than a friendship built over a season or more.
All the actors were amazing.
I loveeed seeing them become true allies
"they mistakenly sent the one good man" They saved so much through sacrifice. I think they couldn't have portrait it any better
I was born in August 1986 in East Germany. My parents told me how worried they were regarding my health (Mom is a nurse by the way).
And I feel grateful beyond my words ...
This series should walk away with every award there is. It is a masterpiece. No other series has ever affected me like this one has.
100% agree!
You should watch Homecoming. Also a miniseries, also very, very good.
I give a 3.6/3.6.The scale maxed out.
3.6.... it not great but not terrible
I'd give it 15000/3.6
Its not 3, its 15000
Masha would give it 12000
Firman Rosidi the Germans would give it 2000/3.6
Skarsgard: "They said Jared was in it..."
Harris: "They said *you* were in it..."
Hah! Well played :3
It’s the Where Eagles Dare switcheroo: exactly how Lew Grade conned Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood to be in the film with each other.
You want to call them out for being duplicitous, but when the end result was so damn good, you really can't...
Jared in the courtroom scene really looked vulnerable, I wanted to give him a hug.
When he dropped the plate I wanted to give him a hug more than anything
And Boris stands up and overruled the court:
"Let him finish".
I cheered in my living room.
0:58
Nailed that "Boris Shcherbina" pronunciation.
These two were awesome in Chernobyl !
He DID sound russian.
Idk why but some Swedish people can be really good in pronunciation of russian letters. Look at Pewdiepie
russian here, losing my mind over how good that sounded
Lol he even said Boris right. Cuz most non-Russian people pronounce it as BÓris, which isn’t correct. BorÍs is the way you’re supposed to say it, like Skarsgård here :)
Both of them have an excellent russian accent! As russian, I wonder it. And other actors and people who made this mini-masterpiece deserve any high awards!
Jared Harris is an underrated but great actor. Harris, Skarsgard, Emily Watson - phenomenal. Script is beyond great. Perhaps the best part of this is the cinematography. Having lived in Eastern Europe from 1990-92 and traveled to the Ukraine - this captures the look so very well.
Jared Harris stole Robert Downey Jr's movie on as Moriarty on Sherlock Holmes. He was oustanding, every time I see him now, I know I will see an amazing thing. He was good on Mad Men, but I loved him on Mad Men when I re-watched It after sherlock holmes
Jeff Young no “the” in “travel to Ukraine” please :)
Ragnarok it’s not grammatically correct. “Not unlike almost” is though you russian troll.
Putin huylo
Had a Russian bride, eh ?? ;-)
yea, the visuals are probably the best thing about this series. im not sure how or where they filmed it exactly, but the environment and the way people look is spot on ussr 1980-s
I remember watching one show quite long ago called Game of... something, dont really remember the name. All I know that this series is much better.
They have both mentioned that the script was GOOOD. So with d&d it was lazy writing...
@@ne.Fiertite2010 Such a shame. First 6 seasons were phenomenal, but the incredibly dissapointing ending tipped the scales for me, emptied my mind to be filled again with genius of Chernobyl.
Haha 😂
LMAO:))) That show was great until very last season lol:)))
Yeah Chernobyl is very good, but it's already over :(
This show needs to win every award
you're overreacting so go fuck yourself.
@@reianvase6683 aw is the baby mad? Awe youw dwagons better
Man it’s so hard to believe Stellan Skarsgård is the same guy who played the scientist in Thor. What a versatile actor! Both of these guys deserve Emmys for their respective performances in Chernobyl!
Whenever I finish an episode of Chernobyl I find myself very upset, so I watch clips of Stellan in Mamma Mia. Two very VERY big contracts.
You should check series River with him, amazing performance
@Benito Riggio I couldn't believe he played General U.S. Grant in Lincoln. I had already seen the movie when I found out he was in it and had to go look. He completely disappears into the character. Loved him in Mad Men. His character was simultaneously pathetic and hilarious.
Skarsgaard is one of those actors I never recognize. It’s odd.
also the pervert from Nymphomaniac
Chernobyl is an absolute "must watch" series, not only for the acting, correct historical description but also to feel the drama and psychological trauma that thousand people of this tragedy have suffered.
Not Only Ukrainians but all Soviet Union people. Millions
Definitely not entirely historically correct.
@@Wilantonjakov go on.
@@Wilantonjakov nothing major, they moved some stuff up the timeline like the helicopters. They downgraded how people actually looked like affected by the radiation. Some of them had no flesh on the bone in somw parts, 3/4 of their faces melted down, walking corpses literally.
@@DrRhyhm You're right, nothing major. I actually think that Toptunov looked like a walking corpse, and even more so, Ignatenko (firefighter.) They didn't show Akimov, but apparently he was the worst, with half his face melted away. However, there were a few things, most notably the way the Soviets acted was not very believable whatsoever.
First of all, in the first episode, that radiation burn from the firefighter picking up graphite- wouldn't happen that quickly. It would start to eat away at his skin 12 hours - 2 days later. Just a little nitpick. Also a nitpick is that there was no thick black smoke above the plant after the explosion.
The big one (which was intended) was the fabrication of Emily Watson's character, Khomyuk (I think that's how it's spelled?) Historically, she didn't exist. She was made to represent the many scientists that helped Legasov.
The one I have the most problem is the portrayal of the Soviets themselves. In Episode 2, the Central Committee member Boris Shcherbina threatens to have Legasov shot if he doesn’t tell him how a nuclear reactor works. There are a lot of people throughout the series who appear to act out of fear of being shot. This is inaccurate: summary executions, or even delayed executions on orders of a single apparatchik, were not a feature of Soviet life after the nineteen-thirties. By and large, Soviet people did what they were told without being threatened with guns or any punishment. In the episode where the miners are recruited, it is made out like the Miners actually had more power, socially, than the 'minister for coal'. The soviets were cruel and calculated but they never acted like fools. The 'minister for coal' was literally a pushover. In reality, every Soviet minister would have their way or there would be consequences.
More often however, we are supposed to believe that the three men who were put on trial-and especially one of them, a particularly unattractive villain by the name of Anatoly Dyatlov-are to blame. We see him strong-arming younger, better men into actions that will ultimately lead to catastrophe. All because, it seems, he wants a promotion. But in reality it wasn’t the carrot of a single promotion, or even several promotions, and it wasn’t one nasty and abusive boss. It was the system, made up primarily of pliant men and women, that cut its own corners, ignored its own precautions, and ultimately blew up its own nuclear reactor for no good reason except that this was how things were done. The viewer is invited to fantasize that, if not for Dyatlov, the better men would have done the right thing and the fatal flaw in the reactor, and the system itself, might have remained latent. This is a lie.
I loved the show, but there were definitely historical inaccuracies and these are some of them. Again, nothing major, but notable nonetheless.
These two are very powerful on screen together. I have only watched the first three episodes but this show has really gotten a hold of me.
All the scenes they are togheter are amazing
Same!
My favorite scene so far is in E04 when Scherbina freaks out after the Joker robot dies :-)
Think it's a great show and I hope they get awards cause they deserve it.
"They gave the propaganda number, it was never going to work." It was a real turning point in his character arc.
‘I DON’T GIVE A F--- I WANT THEM TO HEAR! TELL THEM, TELL THEM!’
...
‘We’ll need a new phone’
TELL FUCKING GORBACHOV!!! TELL HIM!!!!
Dyatlov would give the series the rate of 3.6 on imdb
3.6...not great, not terrible.
It’s not a rating of 3, it’s 150000.
HAHAHAHA
Means the highest too. :))
You can do better than recycling dialogues.
Jared Harris is my most perplexing mancrush.
That makes both of us
Good to see Dumbledores son and Tarzans dad in charge of the situation!
Damn. I've never made the connection between Richard Harris and Jared Harris. Amazing. It makes a lot of sense. Brilliant actors.
Also It’s father
Quinlan IM FLABBERGASTED
Don't forget he's also Pennywise's dad. Damn, what a family.
Professor Moriarty and Dr. Selvig did a great job.
I love their scenes! When Shcherbina hugged Legasov in episode 4, that was a strangely wholesome moment in the midst of all the tragedies. Also, his personality development shows that there might actually be good in everyone.

@Raga Dely THERE IS NO GRAPHITE ON THE GROUND!!!! do you want the KGB to remind you of that??
NapoleonBonaparte - I swear this show has many meme-worthy moments... "THIS MAN IS DELUSIONAL. TAKE HIM TO THE INFIRMARY"
Nick Hunter billion trillion bullets? I DONT SEE IT. He’s delusional, take him to the infirmary.
These two are brilliant together in Chernobyl. In episode 4 the moment Stellan has with the phone made me just laugh so hard. Such a shame its just 5 episodes but give them all awards - they deserve it.
I think the three main characters have been the best choice for this horrifying true event . A perfectly well written black page in the history of man kind. I was 20 y old when this happened in utter shock and terrified. It's good this is shown raw to the present world. This should not be forgotten! At the same time it's a mirror.....kept in front of us, That's why this mini- series is so... " popular" ?
Errol Badenbroek the female scientist is actually fake, HBO added her to represent all the “hidden” scientists who helped out. I loved that addition btw

@@hemantagarwal6279 Yes we have. Serial called "Moths". Tons of videos, documentaries also available on youtube. This serial from HBO is fine, costumes, decorations, acting are - very very well done. Honestly two of my favourite actors and they both smashed it in Chernobyl!! 10/10 show
Its interesting how Skarsgard doesnt have accent when he acts, but he has it in everyday life. Great actor.
what are you talking about? You can clearly hear his Swedish accent when he acts in Chernobyl.
MrErikxxon I noticed a different accent here too
It's only slightly different. I think in Chernobyl he's using a British-Swedish accent while his normal one is more American.
This is his real accent, Swedish not American!!
His English is TERRIFIC whatever anyone may say. Fools non natives without a single problem.
Stellan played Shcherbina brilliantly. Of all the characters in the show, I was most sympathetic with Shcherbina. Here was a man who had to project power and authority yet at the same was aware of how delicately the situation had to be managed. Brilliant portrayal!
If anyone is looking for something else to watch with Jared Harris in it I highly recommend The Terror. Amazing series.
Yeah 1000%
And Mad Men. He joins the show in the second season iirc.
if u wanna watch Valery Legasov tryna manage a ship while gay Vasily Ignatenko evolves into the villain watch The Terror

These two are cute together. I like the part when Boris says “is that a smile?” and gives him a hug. 🥰
This show was stellar top to bottom - the writing, the acting, the cinematography, the score, ALL of it simply stellar. THANK you to everyone involved.
Was able to watch this the other day, easily the best piece of television I've seen in 20 years. Just wonderful on every level.
This show is truly amazing & the actors do a phenomenal job telling this story in history, absolutely love it!
These guy's deserve some major awards. Fantastic performance from both of them.

Somehow I feel like E5 of Game of Thrones was a foreshadow for Chernobyl....
Stellan performance was outstanding... same with the actor who played Dyatlov.. such good performances from the main character to the last extra...
i'm in love with Jared Harris.
The point they make about how well written the script was to make something so complex, understandable to "even actors", is one of the biggest feats of this show to me. Amazing show all round.
I think this was possibly the best TV show I've ever watched. Unbelievably good! Thank you all the actors and crew. Amazing!!! 👍👍
Amazing miniseries. Both of these two actors slammed it.
These two really did bring out the best in each other as actors throughout the whole series. Every scene they had together was a show stealer.
So far I’m blown away by there acting and I’m from Eastern Europe amazing
Aside from his amazing performance in Chernobyl, I recently watched The Simpleminded Murderer with a young Skarsgård (early 1980s iirc) and it's madness what a bandwidth that guy has.
This show is amazing, as well as the podcast with the show runners, going more in depth about the research they did for each episode. Emily Watson is really great, especially last episode interviewing all the victims in the hospital. I remember she was great also in ‘Appropriate Adult’

Both Stellan Skarsgard and Jared Harris did spectacular acting on the show. I am really excited for the final episode as well. Thank you for making this video!
My favourite bit is when the minister catches the scientist smiling, after the first robots success, "what is that? A smile ,? Agh agh agh " big hug

These 2 together on screen is truly magnificent. The story is horrific - watching these 2 outstanding actors make it real & present & soul crushing (which this story must be) is a gift & something everyone should experience. Thank you gentlemen for your masterful work.
these 2 have so great chemistry in the series. Great actors
I'm only 3 episodes in and I can honestly say it's one of the most phenomenal mini-series based on real life events that I've ever seen. Not only do Jared and Stellan both give exceptional performances, but it is so well directed, the score, the tone, they really did their homework and drive home a level of connection and fear that is seldom seen in a show like this.
These two guys killed it. Amazing actors.
they're like two elderly buddies in a care home 😂😂 love them
Amazing Actors !!! I started the series from day one and I was impressed by their performance . I hope they both win an award for their work on this amazing production .
Few weeks ago I finished Fringe and now Chernobyl, at the start not knowing that Jared Harris plays there, too. What a giant leap from Jones to Legasov, lol.
The whole series was incredible but the final episode has to be one of the best episodes in all of television history!
Boris: Tell me how a nuclear reactor works?
Legasov: 😐
"They're not letting school-children play outside......in Frankfurt"
Not even in Yugoslavia.:))
And then he looks outside the window and sees the Soviet children running around in the street, just a few kilometers away from the open nuclear reactor.
One of the many moments of absolutely *perfect* visual storytelling in the show.
