She was easily using substances to try to escape those creepy wolves in Hollywood. I am totally on her side. She was trying everything to escape like Amanda, Paris, Britney. My heart goes out to all of them. They wanted to break free. How dare he attempt to degrade her like that!
You know with such a long career it’s so sad that at this stage of his life he feels the need to degrade someone. I would hate to get to that age, have it all and still be so vapid. He sounds godless.
He's pushed male guests over the edge in the past. Sometimes to implosion. Trust me, this was the compassionate Dave. Seemed like his intention was to give her a wake-up call, bc she wasn't getting that from anyone else around her. He even said explicitly that everyone is hopeful and and wants her to be successful. Either way she's doing and looking very well today. I'm glad she escaped with her life. Some people are not so lucky. Some things are worth more than a lesson in humility.
He was mean to her because he tough he could. You can see in thus interview and some others, how truly vulnerable thus women feel and how they cannot answer back. And this is just the surface. I can imagine how probably 99% of girls and young women in Hollywood and the music scene are sexually abused in some way or form and they have to submit to this disgusting treatment or they won't get ant jobs. Imagine your life and career depends on a man giving you or not giving you a role depending on what you do for him. Must be horrible.
I agree. And I am no fan of Lindsay Lohan, I don’t care to watch her movies, I don’t care to know what’s going on with her. But as a human being for him to poke fun of someone like her going through a very personal and heartening thing is absolutely disgusting, you can tell she was very uncomfortable and he just kept trying to push the envelope.
It was very disgusting. And very unprofessional on his behalf. She is visibly uncomfortable talking about her situation and he just kept poking front of her. I would’ve cussed his ass out.
I watched a more full set of clips from this interview right before posting this comment because I was disgusted when watching this on another channel. While reading the comment section I came across one that said they watched the interview and seen we (viewers who were fed pieces of the interview) were taken for a ride. They were correct. Please go and watch what hasn't been shown on likely several channels. You may just change your opinion on how Dave treated Lindsey. My opinion is that she clearly loves, respects and admires David Letterman, and he feels the same about her. It doesn't look like it here, but with more context it'll make more sense.
This was unusually cruel for Letterman. Getting into it with a conceited Madonna - who could hold her own - was one thing. He could be very generous as he showed with Warren Zevon and Drew Barrymore. But this was petty and callous.

I was never a Letterman fan, the older he got the more senile he became whenever he asked a question he would then trail off onto something else, that might have worked for comedy when he was on 12:30am after Carson but the 11:30pm audience don't wanna see that crap.

Your analogy insinuates she’s wearing her substance abuse issues on her sleeve when she made it abundantly clear that she was there to promote a movie. I’ll never call for the cancel police and I don’t think it’s even warranted here for those weirdos who do, but Letterman was absolutely wrong.
@@Thisizmyname it was intended to be more on the explicit side. It seems rather obvious to me. Go take a look at a recent photo or video of her and tell me you don't see what I mean. She was struggling back then. She needed help and it wasn't coming from anyone else. Validating someones poor life choices and pretending they wont have consequences is the worst option.
@@ibeturface respectfully, I’m a little confused as to what your point is. She mentioned she was going to rehab. What does Letterman burying her about it on live TV actually solve?
@@Thisizmyname my point was she needed a wake up call. It didn't seem like it was coming from anyone else. Like Letterman said, he and her fans want her to do well. If anyone was taking pleasure from pointing out her failures I would agree that it'd be rather disgusting. But that's not what he's doing. He was trying to hold up a mirror so she could see the path she was going and inspire her to change it. Whether or not it was he that helped inspire her, she did change for the better and she should be proud of it. I feel like she would agree with that if asked about this today in 2024. You surmised all that from this interview? I would surmise that being essentially hung out to dry in front of a national audience to the point of tears and then not abandoning trying to poke fun at her even when asked to talk about the movie was pretty clear that his behavior was the issue, not her fondly reminiscing on old times
