- This is another soup I love on those cold wet days. And living in the PNW I find that this soup is delicious and good anytime during the four seasons. You may think of this soup very similar to beef stew but usually the broth is not as thick. Chuck roast is typically an inexpensive cut of beef and it works great here to get each bite that is tender. I chose a good low sodium beef broth or stock because I wanted more of that deep rustic beef flavor. This soup is filling and so good. Serve it with a salad and biscuits or good bread. It’s comfortable all the way.

I love soup . I could literally survive on it . Can not wait to try this recipe. Ty Amy although I was born and raised in Chicago and moved to Vegas at 50yrs old . I don't need cold weather to eat soup . I'm enjoying soup and chilli when its 115 degrees out lol . At least I don't have to heat up my house turning on the oven.

Omg on one video I was watching it while cooking and my boys were both in their bedrooms and they both yelled out to me in the kitchen!! What the hell is all that banging?? She was mixing something in her KitchenAid mixer and she does this all the time...she’s cleaning off the paddle attachment and banging the spoon on the bowl. She banged it so loud and then she puts the damn paddle down and gets it all covered with the ingredients and stops the mixer then cleans the paddle, bangs the spoon and puts it back down. She cleaned off that paddle at least 4-5 times only to put it back in the mix. What the point of all that was beyond me? Seems senseless to waste all that time scraping over and over. My kids were going nuts back in their rooms with all that loud banging. 🙄
It’s still chilly here in Canada 🇨🇦 Ontario 🍁. So soups are still on my burner. You can’t go wrong with beef barley. Homemade crusty bread. I can’t wait to see your new hood and stovetop and backsplash. I’m sure it will be lovely.

Soup looked so rich and hearty .When l make beef barley l cook the barley in a pan of water by itself .I buy the quick cooking barley .l drain the water off before adding it to the soup .
Jo ann next time try it in the soup you are throwing away the best secret barley water as well as pasta water is a secret I learned from my Italian nana dont toss it !!
I do the same... then I rinse the barley with running water because I like a nice clear broth in my soup. I find that when I cook the barley in the broth, my soup gets cloudy & the barley gets almost a little "slimy". It gives the barley a whole different texture that I prefer in my soup.

Your kids sure have grown up so fast ! Does anyone know when Felix your dog died ? I heard that he passed away and that must be be a very sad thing to go through ! Pets are very important to humans ! I know my kittty Little Girl is my life she will be 5 August first ! Got her at Happy Endings Cat Shelter on Feb 8th 2020 age 2 going on 3 ! Shes so much company to me happy that I have her ! Shes all black and beautiful !

Looks amazing. I am just throwing an idea out for an “empty nesters” cook book. I am just me and doing all that is just too much for 1 or 2 people and I would be eating for over a month. I know you can freeze but after eating something a couple you get sick of it.
I've been thinking about this lately. I don't like to eat the same 'leftovers' for days either. Freezing is a great option though.

Here is how to cook mushrooms. You saute the mushrooms in a bit of olive oil, you will see them start to let their water out, keep cooking until all the boiling water that the mushrooms give out is gone. Then the real cooking starts.. Otherwise you are just steaming them in their own water. The difference is incredible.
I hope you try this way. It takes extra time, but worth it.
Agree. I like mushrooms when they get a little brown on them bf I add any salt. Yes, let the water cook out of them for a bit bf adding salt

Secret -if you want to reduce the fat in a dish. Let it get cold - refrigerate, then skim off the jelled fat off the top.
