Lol, yeah they're all auto-shifters now. You can only get a manual if you custom order it, and it costs more. While there are some cons to the auto, overall, it makes for a much better driving experience IMHO. The adaptive cruise alone is worth it. It's just the downhills that still bother me a bit, but after practice, you figure it out.
Around the time I traded in my last truck for my current one(almost a year ago), my buddy bought the same truck as mine... But, his is Auto... He thought that was a good thing, until last month when it got stuck in a gear... Cost him $9k to get back on the road! I haven't really had any issues with mine... Just little stuff that I've been able to fix myself for free. Mostly DEF issues. If you go to the shop every time, you're throwing money in the garbage! A lot of time you just have DEF crystals in the injector, and you can literally take it apart at the truck stop and go inside and wash it in the sink... Freightliner charges $1,750 for that. Did it myself in a Loves parking lot in about two hours. Learn as much as you can so you can keep your money!
And, keep an eye on the wiring for the DEF system on both sides of the truck. If any of the wires are rubbing on the brackets, you'll need to do something to correct that or it'll short out. I've had to rewire a bunch of sensors and the DEF Heater because of the wires rubbing on brackets. Wire loom and tape everything, zip tie everything in place. That DEF system is VERY fragile, and will be the #1 cause of engine lights. Since I did all this, I haven't seen a single engine light in months! My truck is far from New, so for you it'll be preventing the issues.. for me I had to fix it all first. Mine is a 2011 with almost 490,000 miles. Got it for $20,500! 🙂
Actually, funny story... When I got it, I spent a bunch of time replacing stuff... New grill, bumper, headlight assemblies, replaced all the lights with new LEDs including the headlights and interior lights and generally cleaned it up... When I took it to the local Freightliner, they couldn't tell what year it was! They thought it was a 2016! LOL. It looks pretty much new inside and out, aside from it's the old body style. BTW, if you want to keep the floors looking NEW, use tire shine! Sweep really good, and then spray the foam tire shine and let it sit for a few minutes, and then scrub it clean with rags. It'll look better than it did at the factory! McGuire's does a great job and smells like air freshener when you're done!
Just finished my classes for my bachelor's degree in criminal justice, but I would actually make more trucking, so I'll be starting at Prime Inc hopefully next year through their CDL program. Can't wait to get started trucking. Love seeing new environments / views I haven't seen before.

Yup, and I also remember there were a lot more (a whole lot more) gators (shredded truck tires) on the road because of all the blowouts. The tpms keeps working, even when you're driving. Can't thump the tires when your driving after running over some debris you didn't see.
And now seems better. I've bben through 3 tire issues. 2 flats and 1 slow leak. The TPMS caught them all mid-trip and avoided blow outs or any damage at all.
Nice to see that US trucks have left the 50s behind and at least moved into the 2000s, especially the interiors, this looks more like an 15 year Honda inside than the usual 50's style. Soon you might get stuff other truckers have been having as standard for years!
CONGRATULATIONS, the color reminds me of several friends who drive for Maverick Transportation in Freightliner Cascadia mid rise sleepers this color. 🤠
Yeah, I've heard that's been an issue and even this truck has had some. I've even heard the newer Peterbuilts have had electrical issues. Guess it's time to try Internationals.
Ive been stranded twice now by Freightliner with 2 different trucks (2012 Cas and 2018 Cas). F em. My old 2010 Kenworth T660 had 3x the miles and was in far worse shape and it always got me home, every time. Regardless I'm happy for you and hope your experiences are better than mine.
Thanks Shawn, I hope so too. Heard a lot of great things about KW and of all the old trucks I see out there, KWs are at the top of the list, proving their great reliability. If that were an option, I'd take it.
Hopefully you have better luck with freightliner than I did. Massive electrical issues bad wiring harnesses. If you have a leak that runs down the inside of windshield get it to freightliner before 80,000 miles. Those leaks get in computer and dry it. 2019 cascadia I told them to put me in a Volvo because i was tired of breaking down every couple weeks
I'm hoping the same. I've heard of those issues. Same with Peterbuilt. The brow supposedly helps with the windshield leak. So far, so good. The truck has already had some electrical issues. We'll see.
The hole you cant figure out is for factory order purchases. There is a converter regulator there on some models that lets you regulate how much battery drain the truck will allow before it starts up to recharge them.
Looks like it has some decent upgrades. The chrome package and painted bumper and visor is nice. It might have the insulation package also. I got the auto socks also. The omnitrack can also be voice activated by saying hello omnitracs
Yeah, not too bad. I think I got pretty lucky with it. I hope it has the insulation package. Not sure how to tell. I'm definitely getting the auto socks instead of chains. Heard good reviews on them, worth the extra costs. That's cool about the Onnitracs. I didn't know. I'll have to check it out. I've also got the voice activated Garmin DezlCam 785 and Alexa Auto, so plenty of voice activated features for me lol

Congratulations. I agree with you 100% aboutbtrucks and new technology. I'm seeing less accidents and tire blowouts on the highways because the new technology has made driving these massive dangerous machines safer. Alot safer. As it should be. please dont touch the truck. It looks awesome as is. Dragons, goblins, skulls. All of that is played out.

I'm sure they are, and I'm glad their paying me plenty more so I can afford it lol. Even as a company driver, you're buying them a new truck. They're making the money off the loads and paying the driver less so they can make the payments. Works out better as a lease or owner/op.

But I do feel confident that I will do fine driving. I also want to make sure that this is 100% what I want. Which I do feel like it is. But I want to make sure.
@@JJtheTrucker Plan wise. I want to find a company that will be at least fair to their workers. And are in need of dry van drivers. I'm not into flat bed, and the negatives of doing reefer push me away from it. Also I'd be to nervous to do tanker.
Yeah, 21 it is, but that'll be here before you know it. I'd get that regular dl as soon as possible though to start getting experience behind the wheel. I agree with you on fladbed and tanker, but haven't experienced any negatives with Reefer. Just the opposite. We can haul dry, refrigerated or frozen, which means more loads available to us. What negatives have you heard?
@@JJtheTrucker I've heard that reefers are loud at night so it's hard to sleep. Also heard that wait times to get loaded/unloaded are A LOT longer than dry van. But hey, maybe it ain't that bad, maybe they make it sound worse than it really is.
Things that I would want. 1. A toilet to defecate, something that goes into a plastic bag inside of a 5 gallon bucket which is easily removed. 2. A small sink with water to wash hands, face, brush teeth. 3. Maybe a small shower with a hot water heater. 4. Cameras that show the front, sides, back of the truck, so you can watch them from the front and back. 5. Fans that blow air across your face in hot weather, front and back areas. 6. CB Radio and Radio controls in the back. 7. A back support when you are working at your desk If you have all of these, you do not have to leave the truck.
I completely agree. The toilet thing I do have for emergencies. It works but stinks up the truck until you can throw the bag away lol. I've only used it twice. Cameras can be installed. I've heard it's around $2500 installed for a good system. If you get a conversion sleeper, it has all that stuff plus the built in toilet. It's on my eventual wish list.

Nice truck, say by by to fuses. Dont go looking for them when things stop working. Get use to killing power to reset fault codes to make things work again.
That is my first trainer’s truck. It was a good truck, but beware he had constant issues with the tpms and alarm. It was in the shop at least four times for that issue.
Thanks for the heads up John, yeah I saw that in the printout I got. No issues so far with either. What was the issue with the alarm? The only issue I'm having so far is that the radio keeps locking up. Any idea what the hole is from near the APU controls?
The alarm alarm, tpms, and weight gauge light would just lose power. The alarm would then power up occasionally while driving and go off. I would have to input the code while driving to turn it off.
Lol. I mean, aw that sucks! The repair report says that it was mis-wired and they corrected it, then the next time it happened the report says the same thing. mis-wired , corrected. Today, the cruise wouldn't work for some unknown reason. Once I turned the truck off and back on, it worked again. The ventilation system did that to me once too, and yesterday, the ac wouldn't come on, no matter how many times I pressed the button. Again, a restart of the truck fixed it. It definitely seems to be buggy. Fortunately, no issues with the 3 items you mentioned... So far.
@@JJtheTrucker The cruise control could either be an issue with the stupid radar sensor garbage on the front (so glad I don't have that!) Or it could be the brake pedal sensor. For other readers, if it's a manual truck and your cruise doesn't work, check to see if the engine brake works. If both cruise and engine brake do not work, it's the clutch safety sensor. If the engine brake is working fine, it's the brake pedal sensor.
That's the question of the decade right there. I've driven a lot of manual cars and I LOVED them, but eventually steered toward the automatics as they got better (except for in a muscle car, still needed that clutch!). As for trucks, I've never driven a manual truck, so I don't have a comparison for you, however I have found the automatics to be very nice, easy, feature rich, etc. It works great once you get used to it, works with the adaptive cruise control, and you can still manually shift it if you need or want to. It's actually still a manual transmission, but automated. The truck does the shifting and clutch work instead of the driver. Hope that answer helps.
1,cant get rid of the super singles. 2, I'm very rarely in the mountains on snow. 3, what information are you basing that off of? There's a lot of speculation about SS but the documentation shows they have better traction than duals in rain and snow.
@@JJtheTrucker Here in Norway where i live we have a lot of mountainpasses with lot of bad weather/roads during winter. SS have been tried out but duals and chains are the thing here at least. But if you drive mostly on dry roads. It dos not matter.
It may have 50k miles on it but it's still a new truck. Other than the miles what makes u think it's not new? Nice color. The 2021 trucks aren't out yet bc the 2020 trucks are still coming in.
@@JJtheTrucker yes u did get lucky bc they could have given u something not so nice. I wish I had the chrome pkg. When the drivers in my lease class got out of orientation in Springfield they had like 10 brand new cascadia for us. We took every truck they had and told everyone else to come back tomorrow.
Yeah, especially since this was literally the only available truck in SLC. If they didn't have this one, I'd have had to wait for someone to turn in their truck. I'm really happy with this one.
I carry socks instead of chains but I have never used them yet. The benefit is that they are lighter, and easier to install however the downside is that they are expensive and pretty much a one-time-use. I could have used them in this situation but then I would have lost out on about $550 that they cost and then I'm without any chains or socks getting ready to go through Wyoming. Just wasn't worth it. I figured I would wait it out instead and it ended up working out. I am reconsidering getting chains though because of that reason.
Does your microwave have the convection feature so you can actually bake or roast something while on the road ? Do you have any : Hot Logic Mini 12-Volt Personal Portable Oven in your truck ? Do you Direct TV so you can watch TV on the road while your not driving JJ ? JJ thanks for the tour of your new truck . How long have you been a trucker & driving for PRIME ? How tall are you ?
Hey Bob. It's just a standard 900w microwave. You could get one if those though as long as it'll fit and as long as the wattage is low enough for the 1200w inverter to handle. You can upgrade the inverter to up to 1800w. I don't have DirecTV. I stream. I can get the DirectVu package though if I wanted. Prime will install it for me, but streaming has all I need. I'm a new driver. I started with Prime in August last year. I'm 5' 5". Have a great day.

Prime doesn't pay for it though. You have to pay for the installation and the monthly yourself. Same with Sirius XM (although the radio is pre-installed). I do go to Bradenton now and then and head north up 75. I'll hit you up the next time I'm in the area and have some time.
@@JJtheTrucker Thank You for your reply . When he was alive my brother liked Sirius XM in his car . He died last July 6 TH from brain & lung cancer he was 66 . OK I will be looking forward to meeting up with you next time your down this way .
California passed a law (I think it's called AB5) that forces trucking companies to pay a certain way which doesn't work for owner/op's. I don't know all of the details, but the carriers had to stop doing owner/op's in that state and pay company drivers differently. It's a rediculous PITA law created by people who know nothing about how trucking works. But hey, that's California for ya. If it ain't ruined yet, give it to California, they'll finish the job! 😒
I could have kept that one for 2 years, 4 months. The previous person had it for 8 months (total of 3 years). I opted to trade it in early and do a 3 year lease purchase instead. Now, at the end of the lease, my new truck is all mine. No turning it in. My new truck. ruclips.net/video/5sueRQ8euA0/видео.html
That is correct. The daytime running light stays on, but the headlight is cut off for a second. You can't hold it down to keep it off though. The headlights will come back on after a second (maybe less)
For company drivers, no custom graphics. Interior customization is OK if you can remove it without any damage. Keep in mind that there is always the chance (though slight) that they can have you turn in your truck at any time. Usually for extended home time or to upgrade to a new truck. Exceptions are TV, refrigerator and satellite, which Prime can install for you. As a lease op, you can do a lot more, but if you turn in the truck, you'll be charged for damages and graphics removal. It's not that much though.
How much are they charging monthly for one of those trucks. Of all the headquarters Prime has the best. Got my start in Trucking with Prime 21 years ago.
My truck payment is $1074/week. For those reading this that don't know how it works, and are like OMG THATS SO MUCH MONEY, keep in mind, 1), It's only for 3 years, not 5 to 7 years like on a car, and 2). The amount Prime pays you is enough to make this payment every week, plus other business fees (and there are plenty of those), plus fuel, and still have a LOT left over. I average $1800 / week after all expenses are paid (before taxes). That's still $86,000 per year including 4 weeks of vacation/sick time. Well worth it to have a nice new feature rich home. It's like a truck payment and rent payment all in 1.
@@JJtheTrucker well they've changed some things. Before when you Finnish your lease you had a big balloon to pay if you wanted to keep the truck. Best of luck with it.
That still applies. If you want to keep it you can do that. The better option is go go with the owner lease option. You put $8k down up front, go through the same 3 year lease and at the end of 3 years, the truck is yours. No balloon payment.
Thanks Jordan! Been making some good money. Paycheck video is coming soon. You should see it with the new graphics! ruclips.net/video/LE-CH-BsOmk/видео.html
What is the top speed of that truck? I am a lease owner driver and blow by prime trucks all day and night and my tractor still get,s great fuel millage... Nice tractor good luck...
Thanks Matthew. I'm governed at 65. Top speed is 75 (downhill, wind to my back and somebody outside pushing lol) I pass all the 58 mph company drivers all day long. If I'm not in a hurry to get there, (appointment with no early delivery) then I'll set the cruise to 60. Btw, don't trust the freightliner mpg reading. Go by what your Qualcomm or omnitracs says, or measure it yourself.
matthew robinson when you “blow by” other trucks you actually do get less mpg and you are probably speeding and being less safe. Be careful a few extra dollars 💵 is not worth the risk.
The thing that bothers me most about the automatics trucks is some of the states will limit your cdl to only automatics if you either test in one or deive one for an extended pwriod of time. It limits your options if you want to go to another company
That is true, but changing quickly as newer trucks replace the old ones. Plus, I'm sure you've seen how many hundreds of trucking companies there are out there. Lots of options.
Im just glad i was able to avoid that restriction. Automatic trucks still have more maintenance costs. I have bought a truck and gone independent. The added maintenance costs would be a serious issue as every penny counts. The restriction wont matter for most. But it is limiting. In any case that is a very pretty truck. Freightliner has seriously steped up thier game since the freightliner columbia. Cant tell you how many times i had to ziptie my dashboard back together in that old beater. Lol
First thing I noticed... Automatic Transmission! I have been watching all your videos from the begining. Very cool. I may find out in later videos, but does truck have a dash camera? Been entertaining myself watching videos of stupid road ragers taking on trucks 13 times their size/weight. Ugh. I'll be watching out for you along the I-5 corridor. Roads in Oregon and Washington are actually very nice. Have a good day, and stay safe.

Excellent questions Nazar. This thing is like a dream compared to the older trucks. It's so quiet, I don't need a large Bluetooth headset that you see most drivers wearing. I usr my small Plantronics one that loops over the ear, with no problems. Nothing rattles either. The seat is a class 2 with decent adjustments including lumbar. It's comfortable. There are better seats out there but they're expensive (around $2500). The suspension is good. Better than the older trucks I've driven, but keep in mind, it's still air ride and the roads are terrible, especially the truck lanes. Still better since it's new. Note: my only comparison is to other freightliners that are 2 to 3 years older. I haven't driven any of the really old trucks or any other brand yet, so my data is limited. I can only imagine how bad some of those older flat nose trucks are though 🤣
Great question Isaiah. Anywhere that's free and has a restroom! 😂 It really depends, but usually Pilot is my go to. I get enough fuel there to get free showers. Loves is also good. Rest stops are #3. If the shipper/receiver has overnight parking, I like to take advantage of it so I can sleep in since I'm already there. Many travel plazas on the turnpikes are really nice too, and some have free showers (Way to go Ohio)! I tend to avoid TAs and small truck stops when I can. Last but not least, I try to find creative spots like tonight. I'm parked in an old toys r us parking lot. The store is closed down so it's easy parking and right next to a mall! SCORE!
@@bigdad98 I've done the malls twice, haven't done a hotel yet. Main thing is I don't want to park somewhere where a cop might bang on my door, waking me up telling me to move.

@@jpierce1987 those are all great ideas. Thank you.

Anyone remember back in the good ole days when a Tire pressure monitoring system was the driver with a tire thumper and an air gauge
Yup, and I also remember there were a lot more (a whole lot more) gators (shredded truck tires) on the road because of all the blowouts.
The tpms keeps working, even when you're driving. Can't thump the tires when your driving after running over some debris you didn't see.
Yes my wife has my old 1 under her seat to use if necessary. L.o.l.
It doesn't always mean just because you have a blowout is tire pressure related it's know as progress tire technology has improved over time
Yeah. Then vs now
And now seems better.

@@JJtheTruckeralthough, if I was in a Kenworth T680, I'd take a Cummins X15 instead of that crappy PACCAR MX13.
Hopefully you have better luck with freightliner than I did. Massive electrical issues bad wiring harnesses.
We'll see.

7. A back support when you are working at your desk
If you have all of these, you do not have to leave the truck.

@@JJtheTrucker Sure...❤❤
WHICH IS BETTER MAUNAL OR AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ?
Get rid of those super singles if you are driving in the mountains on snow. :) CONGRATULATIONS ! Nice truck :)

Have you tried the tire socks on the snowy roads and how do you like using them?
I carry socks instead of chains but I have never used them yet. The benefit is that they are lighter, and easier to install however the downside is that they are expensive and pretty much a one-time-use. I could have used them in this situation but then I would have lost out on about $550 that they cost and then I'm without any chains or socks getting ready to go through Wyoming. Just wasn't worth it. I figured I would wait it out instead and it ended up working out. I am reconsidering getting chains though because of that reason.

You have to furnish those things yourself. They do install the APU and inverter.
What did you mean by you can't owner op in California anymore?
California passed a law (I think it's called AB5) that forces trucking companies to pay a certain way which doesn't work for owner/op's. I don't know all of the details, but the carriers had to stop doing owner/op's in that state and pay company drivers differently. How long do you get to keep this truck before you have to turn it in for a different truck?
I could have kept that one for 2 years, 4 months. The previous person had it for 8 months (total of 3 years).
I opted to trade it in early and do a 3 year lease purchase instead. Now, at the end of the lease, my new truck is all mine. No turning it in.

So if you company drive can you customize the truck or what’s the deal with that. I’ll be heading to primes school here soon

Btw, don't trust the freightliner mpg reading. Go by what your Qualcomm or omnitracs says, or measure it yourself.

Lol
Lol
Thanks scratch.
Yes, lots of dash cam footage. I have the normal "always recording" one, plus a better one for when I want to record.
If you like crazy driver footage, check out this one!

how is the driving experiance, insulation and engin noise, suspension on the road, seat is it comfortable. thanks
I loved I the color
Thanks Ibrahim. It's grown on me. You should see it with the new graphics! ruclips.net/video/LE-CH-BsOmk/видео.html
How long did it take for you to get the Truck after an Upgrade?
Same day.
Question what is the best place to park the truck at? What you prefer
Great question Isaiah.
Anywhere that's free and has a restroom! 😂
It really depends, but usually Pilot is my go to.
SCORE!
What about hotel to I see drink park it. Also mall lock to?
@@bigdad98 I've done the malls twice, haven't done a hotel yet. Main thing is I don't want to park somewhere where a cop might bang on my door, waking me up telling me to move.
Sir what is the price of this new truck
These trucks with the APU go for around $160,000 brand new.
Very Nice truck 👍😍🚚🇫🇷
