    Dude! Thank you for the shout out! I am really excited you picked up the S9. My dream would be for someone to make a leaf shutter lens for this camera. The LCD on mine is at 100% brightness. I do over capture often to compensate for lack of EVF. The AF-C and IBIS can save your bacon every time. The f1.8 primes are perfect for me. If you make any fancy LUTs please send them my way. Thanks again Dylan 👍✌️

      Haha totally will man! I love a subtle look and am obsessed with warm colors so most of my stuff is pretty average-looking and is reminiscent of just about everything else already out there. Love that you're not afraid of wacky colors and under/overexposed images to get unique looks. So much respect for that. And yes, the IBIS here is truly otherworldly. No hyperbole there. And yes, LCD is on +3 Backlight for me all the time, it's sad - and I forgot to mention this in my video - that the Backlight AUTO function is pretty weak. It seems to be doing a weird TTL thing since with the lens cap on, it's dark, etc. Not sure what's going on but putting Backlight settings on the MY MENU was an easy workaround. The f1.8 primes are SO good - really what is making me stay.

      @ I love getting F1.8 at 18mm FF stabilized…such a kick. The 85mm and 50mm f1.8’s are incredible at the price. I love Fuji too but I wish they would steal some stuff from the LUMIX playbook. I really enjoy SOOC and LUTs play right into that lol. I’ve never been a video guy and this system (for the price) gets me in the game. As for photography, I have had to make some compromises with the S9 and am eying what Fuji does next year and considering an S5II for the EVF if Fuji skunks out with new releases or the availability of releases. Fuji has recipes and LUMIX has formulas I’ve decided lol

    Congrats on the new toy! I think many Fuji users are naturally migrating to Lumix. I think at one time Fuji was seen as a 'value' choice, but now that stigma has really left the nest and its Lumix who are becoming the best bang for buck.
    Keep us updated!

    • @oxeneers
      @oxeneers  3 дня назад +2

      So so so well said. Yes, Fujifilm was definitely best "bang for your buck" at one point in time, but that time is gone sadly. The AF issues/subpar performance just make Lumix the best option now that there's the PDAF system in the S5ii/x/S9. Loving this new journey haha. Thank you for watching!!!

      So true... I'm an Xpro2 shooter but i bought a S5iiX for video - wow. The value, image quality is wild and I get the FF thing in the images. The 50mm 1.8 is stunning and the 20-60mm is super cool for video. Adapted Canon DD 50mm, shooting manual is so nice. Also worth mentioning I use Cinelike D and Monochrome for the look for the SOOC for video and stills. The S9 is my next purchase for point and shoot and mobile vlog/film B cam stuff. Love the video man. Still Love for Fuji always in the London Fuji store - Xpro 4 and the XH cameras need to go FF - the brand will slap!

    I've been looking for a smaller camera to go beside my Lumix S5II so I was super excited when I heard about this camera. Unfortunately the downsides are too big for me to get one: No mechanical shutter and no hot shoe (impossible to use with flash). If they added a real grip to give space for a mechanical shutter I could forgive the missing buttons. It's annoying to have to buy an accessory to be able to hold it properly, that flat body looks really uncomfortable. I hope there will be a S9II with these addition so I'll see in a few years if I'm still around.

    • @oxeneers
      @oxeneers  3 дня назад +2

      Love your input here - and yes, you're right, there are some major limitations hardware-wise on the camera. I think as a new user into Lumix for me it wasn't as shocking or "this can't work for me" since I already have other systems (GFX, X) but you're totally right. The inability to use flash through TTL + a hotshoe is a huge miss. I am still baffled why there isn't a hotshoe?? Surely the electronics are capable, I don't know enough about hardware design but one would think, yeah?
      The S9ii is going to be very dramatic I'm sure. But as I said, really fun time to be a photographer with all this cool gear! Thanks for watching man!

  • @lobofilmmaker
    @lobofilmmaker 4 дня назад +4

    I could live without an evf, although I use it quite often. I can even forgive them for not giving it a mechanical shutter and hot shoe.
    But like you show in this video, the lack of controls (scrollwheels, joystick!, front butttons, programmable fn buttons) makes this an almost impossible buy for me. I really wanted to like this camera, but it lacks sooo much. Hope they learn from their 'mistakes' and bring out a mk2 version soon.

    • @baihu4u
      @baihu4u 4 дня назад +4

      The thing is though, the 'omissions' were not a mistake at all. The S9 is an experiment project brought to market to be a faster productivity, social media focused S5ii in a full frame but smaller, lighter, rangefinder style body. Without the omissions you'd have an S5ii. Especially since the latest FW update a few weeks ago expanded the Real Time LUT feature to the S5ii(X). The S9 is a dope camera and it's even more successful than they anticipated causing them to unveil more new body colors recently. I own both the S5ii & Lumix S9... The S9 gets much more work lately since it's always with me, everywhere. I'd bet there will be a more standardized MKii version (without the 'omissions') but probably not for a good # of years because 1) Panasonic are on the clock to release MKii versions of their flagship cameras and 2) one of the best things about Lumix is they don't p*ss off their customers with releasing updated model versions in quick succession; on the other hand they typically support their cameras with new features releases thru updated FW over 2 - 3 yrs.

    • @oxeneers
      @oxeneers  4 дня назад

      @@baihu4u I love this discussion - and I totally hear you. I omitted mentioning that, as you said, Panasonic/Lumix is killing it with software/firmware updates. It's like the heyday of Fujifilm where the 'kaizen' methodology is back in full force. They truly want to compete and be a brand that people are talking about and I am 1000% in support of that.
      Love your view on this - and I agree there will probably be a large wait for the S9ii. With that said, what lens do you often have on your S9 since you bring it with you everywhere? I love the 35mm f1.8 but find it a bit too big. The Sigma f2.8 lenses are hard to find sadly.

    • @oxeneers
      @oxeneers  4 дня назад +1

      Thanks for watching and yes! The lack of a joystick is wild to me, the lack of a back scrollwheel makes sense given their real push towards 'casual' users but I think what they're seeing is that prosumer/hobbyist users are flocking to the S9 and the casuals are going to get something sub $750 and not this $1k+ camera and system. Totally agree with you.
      I still think despite all of that, it's worth a purchase if you're a prosumer or hobbyist photographer/videographer since the shooting experience takes a bit to get used to because you're really just getting used to the omissions, but once you do, it's a great camera and the image quality is quite mind blowing if I'm being honest. What are you shooting on instead?

    • @DanFarrar
      @DanFarrar 4 дня назад

      @@oxeneers Exactly. The S9 is not conventional for photography. At all. However, like you said, it has all the capabilities. I’ve never really used a touch screen on a camera for anything but reviewing pics. In some ways it requires faith in the camera to pull it off. My confidence grows each time I trust it and let it do its do. The standard color is straight up Leica and it rocks. I gotta be honest, I really soured on the Fuji scene. The negativity and know it alls are not my gig. There are lots of friendly LUMIX RUclipsrs who get what I do and welcome creativity. When it comes down to it, even with all the hate, this is a true creator camera and I dig it!

    To add a mechanical shutter and EVF they would have to give up the form factor and add a massive grip to fit the battery.. The S9 is meant to be its own line rather than a compact S5II like Sony do with their C line. The lack of a hotshot makes sense given you can't use a flash with electronic shutter anyway. It would only be for a microphone. It is a bit mean though!

      You're 1000% right. This camera/the software response really takes me back to the early days of Fujifilm - this 'kaizen' methodology is so refreshing. They could have easily kept REAL-TIME LUTS exclusive to the S9 but they didn't. That goes a LONG way in my book.
      Also, the software itself is expertly designed and the responsiveness and clean UI (over other manufacturers) is a huge breath of fresh air. Loving what they're doing - thank you for watching!!!

Not sure why Lumix/Panasonic can't put out a real true pancake lens like Canon, Nikon (40mm f2 is GREAT) and others have been able to do. The no flash is disappointing but I'm sure the marketshare for that isn't quite there.. the EVF and MS are strange, though. Appreciate your comment!
