One thing I’ve noticed that hvac guys and some electricians do in my area at least is they assign their own color codes for the equipment they’re installing so that nobody else can work on it in the future without majorly screwing it up and having to replace the equipment when it does malfunction..,when u pop the thermostat off the wall and the wiring is all messed up not matching it’s assigned color on the thermostat and a lot of people don’t realize that’s not a diy job gone bad…,that’s a contractor trying to ensure their job security but more then likely aren’t reliable and never show up for repair calls…,that should be outlawed honestly

The square D he showed is a PON panel. The HOM120PDF breakers are PON. The neutrals should have just been landed on the bus bar. And it's still screwed up... Disclaimer, I'm not an electrician, I just built a house and shop using Square D PON stuff. I thought it was foolproof. I stand corrected.

​@@benh2322PON is only connecting the breaker to the bus bars. The wires that are reversed are for the branch circuit, so PON will do nothing to help the situation except make it tidier.
Eaton identifies the screw terminals on top of the breaker, easily seen when everything is installed but the panel cover is off. Square D identifies them on the side, not visible when installed. The screw terminal color can also identify which is which.
A competent installer should know all of these things and it not be an issue. Yet here we are with an obvious case of someone not knowing better and screwing it up.

I prefer the QOU type of SQD Breaker over any other brand and will install these for all new panels I put in. Best on the market, in my view. You showed the Homeline SQD's in your video which is a "price competitive" line to match up with everyone elses stuff.

Awesome. I'm in marine (in Canada) and our regulations state you need a copper bus bar so our options for panels are Square D or bespoke very expensive panels. 90% of my work is with Square D QO and I've grown to love them.

Square D knows Electricians speak a universal Language.Colored wire to copper colored screw. white wire to silver colored screw. It's been that way long before you were born.

He got a point. Saying gfci/afci doesnt tell me which one goes in front and which one goes in the back. At least putting them side by side and saying neutral and load is much more accurate and easier to understand. All major retailers have pictures where they are interchanged. Because of that electricians dont catch it untill they are told of misswiring on final home inspections. Alot of people have broken appliances due to the neutral line being hot at the plug due to this mistake.

Siemens has a neutral bar that runs under their breakers and eact breaker has a neutral terminal integrated into it. so they cut out the need to wire the neutral on the breaker entirely.

I'm an electrician, and the failure here isn't that they accidentally mixed up 2 wires. It happens to the best of us once in a while. The real issue is that they clearly didn't thoroughly test everything before they left. Before I ever leave a new house every single outlet gets checked for polarity, every smoke detector, AFCI, and GFCI gets tested, every possible position of 3 and 4 way switches gets tested. A mistake like this would be caught with even a cursory test of each circuit.

I used to love Eton products as I have used them in data centers for decades. However, when I got my first New-construction home here in North Texas, it used consumer Eton panel/breakers, and within the first year, I had the electrician out five times to replace five separate Eton ahci/gfi breakers that were not even on high load circuits. I have personally now replaced over half of the breakers in my breaker box because of the crappy quality of those breakers.
When I spoke to Eton, they asked how many I had replaced and sent me 10 spare units of the upgraded part that does not have issues.
I was changing them or resetting breakers so much that I have spousal PTSD when the wife hollers that she tripped a breaker. 😅

A breaker without conductors terminated is typically considered a spare and should be labeled as such.
A standard single pole breaker would have been a more economical choice however.
As an electrician since 1989, I had guys not even understand line and load for a GFCI device. I usually had to fix this stuff during a thorough 'hot check' of the house... Or a warranty call. These devices don't trip properly when wired backwards. Or a reverse polarity reading on your plug tester.
Lots of people not being properly taught these things and some of the people you try to teach already know everything.

Eaton breakers and Siemens in my experience have indicators of where stuff goes because the screws are both silver, rather than square D where the gold is hot and silver is neutral. If you can hook up an outlet you should be able to EASILY wire a square D breaker without issues, it’s not hard.

I actually screwed up with the eaton breakers once. When I finished one side and did the first several breakers on the other side I forgot that they're flipped and did them reversed. I realized it as I was doing it though and pay much closer attention to it now. I havent made that mistake with square D though I am more familiar with square D.

I do love your videos! I'm an electrician, I will say that Square D Homeline dual function breakers are often problematic. I've gotten a lot of issues with nuisance tripping on their dual function breakers and I'm not a fan of the uncoated aluminum bus. If I'm not mistaken, Eaton has a coating on their aluminum bussing. Square D often has a much higher torque rating on their breakers as well and they are usually not torqued down properly. Anyway, that's my experience... Been doing this a long time and I appreciate quality myself. Square D QO panels on the other hand are good stuff, but they cost more and I can't say that they don't have the same problem with the dual function breakers.

I wish they would mandate new construction homes to use higher quality materials. If the person paying for the home knew the difference, they would never be ok with aluminum bus bars, or aluminum wire. QO should be standard everywhere in new construction. Not an issue on UK units. We have a single bar for all the Neutrals, one for all the earth/ground and the Breakers only serve the Live/Hot. I've used Square D here, a more budget option.

Electricians and plumbers need to be sued for faulty Construction or repair I'm a master handyman and Appliance repairman here in both Phoenix and Las Vegas and I'm Blown Away by some of the faulty Construction by so-called professionals in both of these cities and surrounding satellite cities especially in new home developments. Had this issue on a new construction house I rented. All the square d gfci breakers were installed wrong. Had to rewire them. Noticed it when I my washer and dryer kept tripping the breaker
