Qin said in an interview after the 100 final that he had lost so many times he was getting tired of it. His only goal coming to this worlds was to win. So he did not just come from nowhere people just don't often see the failures that led to the success.
Pan Zhanle, another Chinese freestyle swimmer, recently swam 46.97 in the 100-meter freestyle, which is very close to the world record. He is only 19 years old. Currently, there are only two people in the world who can swim within 47 seconds.

US commentators always salty when a Chinese swimmer beats an American or Australian because only they can swim the fastest. Using words like "mystery" suggests something nefarious and it's disgusting to even blurt out. Weve seen many Americans break WRs and no one says how mysterious. Phelps did some incredible things in the pool and we all praise him but when a Chinese swimmer does it, no one saw it coming. Yea no one saw the hard work and determination behind the scenes that Qin put in to get where he is. Plus his strokes are more efficient than the other swimmers.
China dominated at Fukuoka, the medal table wasn't even close. This is just how it is going to be going forward. What you will see coming the next decades is China dominate one sport after another at the Olympics and the American public no longer cares about the event, just like how the figure skating scene has gone down and it's not even dominated by China.
It does suck that the media bias towards American swimmers is so strong. I went to an Instagram post congratulating Qin for breaking the record, and all of the comments were accusing him of doping. And while I understand that Chinese athletes have a history of PED use, accusing him for no reason and with no proof undermines all of his hard work to get to the position he’s at
USA has many swimming drugs that the World has no idea about. USA's depth in swimming is very deep. Product of American's swimming pharmaceutical industry/sports complex.

He takes 14-16 strokes per 50m. Sunyang also took less strokes than others. Maybe Qin’s longer, smoother glides will change how the world swims breatstrokes? The others look like they were more in a hurry.
Adam peaty had /s a very quick stroke. Imagine doing that in the ocean with a rip current. Try it over 400 meters Long distance breaststroke at a fast pace doesn't make sense, unless you want to sink to the bottom.
Just “being on the world stage”, like he has been, nothing special, doesn’t indicate to people that you’re likely to become a multiple time world champion and world record holder. Yes he basically did come out of nowhere. Nobody is saying he literally just picked up the sport last year from the couch, but his rise was extremely unexpected given his lack of past high level wins.
A bit off topic, but two notes. First, Q in Chinese is pronounced a bit like CH (but with the tip of the tongue closer to front teeth), so it will be better to just say Chin. Second, his given name Haiyang actually means ocean!! Seems like he was born to be a swimmer!
Itʻs obvious that the other countries are training harder. Theyʻve all caught up and are passing the US swimmers... thatʻs competition! Love the Aussies and other European nations. Too much hype on Popovici.
The most impressive of Qin's 3 golds is the 50m Gold. He has been an elite 200m Breast and medley swimmer for a while, and flirted with medals repeatedly, but the short distance power is something new from him.
Will this swimmer be there in Paris next year? Chinese swimmers (and athletes for that matter) often come from out clouds and then disappear. I wonder why?
Maybe they use Weibo instead of Twitter (X), maybe they use Baidu instead of google. They don't get as much exposure and most people won't learn a new language just to try and find out.
He wasn't disqualified. There was a conflict with the 200 IM and 200 breast (200 breast semi was immediately before the 200 IM final) so he had to choose one of them. It's a shame, because I think Marchand would have challenged Qin.
100% doping. The Hungarian backstroker has beautiful form, but I still don't trust his drug testing regimen. You're telling me Hungarian anti doping officials are coming all the way to Arizona to test him at random points? And even if they were, that they wouldn't tell him they were coming way in advance so he could cycle off? Please. And we all know about Chinese doping.
