Gunshots rang out during press event with St. Louis and Kansas City mayors regarding gun violence

- St. Louis Mayor Tishaura O. Jones said she "didn't flinch" because she's accustomed to the sound of gunfire.

Standing in the parking lot of a community center discussing ways to curb gun violence, the mayors of St. Louis and Kansas City were interrupted by four nearby gunshots.
"Well isn't that wonderful," St. Louis Mayor Tishaura O. Jones said in a seemingly frustrated tone as she looked over her shoulder.
A police officer providing security could be seen with his hand on his holstered gun and some of those in attendance scurried inside.
Jones and Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas continued taking questions from the assembled press.
"I didn't flinch," Jones said when asked about the gunfire. "I hear gunshots in my neighborhood every night. My son and I fall asleep to the lullaby of gunshots in the distance every night because I'm the first mayor in over 20 years to be born, raised and still live in north St. Louis," she said.
Jones is hosting Lucas in St. Louis as the two discuss various issues both of their cities are facing.
Friday, they were in the Dutchtown neighborhood for a roundtable with community groups, advocates and a Department of Justice official who joined remotely to discuss "the importance of community violence intervention programs and the importance of addressing root causes of crime to improve public safety" Jones's office said in a news release for the event.

@@skip031890 regardless of the crime rate I bet it was staged for effect. You never hear government talking about arming more law abiding citizens or encouraging wemon to carry. It's always more legislation to limit the people who fallow the law.

The news lady said that the mayor said she's is use to hearing gun shots outside of her home. That is not exactly what the mayor said, she said she and her son hears gun shots in a distance all the time, that is a big difference . We live in the city and we to hear gunshots in the distance.

She also said she and her sons hear gunshots in their neighborhood...that does not necessarily mean "in the distance".

Um, they stated at the end of the segment that a member of Cure Violence caught up with the gunman. Do y'all actually listen to these news stories or do you just play internal monologue the entire time? Active listening is a skill everyone can learn.

What's sad is they're taking the small cities in Missouri down with them also what used to be nice country land is no more comfortable Missouri needs to be a dry State bottom line and they need to find better gun laws with harsher punishments the city state the government also is at fault they need to start building more prisons and keep them behind bars and definitely not give them a free pass because of the virus people from St Louis are making everybody in Missouri look bad and they're just taken in the entire Missouri down with them instead of them getting out of St Louis and moving across the bridge they need to make St Louis a better town

She’s new and is literally in the middle of working with the mayor of Kansas City to create plans to decrease this when the shooting happened. And she has. First mayor in a long time to actually give us a year with less homicides than the year before. Our 911 is a voicemail and has been for awhile. Cops have never show up to catch shooters in time here. This is a result from the previous mayors actions. But no one wants to ever look anything up..... or just listen to the whole damn news clip where they tell you what she’s doing🤷♀️
