What is the Yield strength of carbon fibre composite? Carbon fiber, on the other hand, will not permanently deform below its ultimate tensile strength, so it effectively has no yield strength. what values should be used?
These general purpose software packages provide only a simple way of simulating a composite panel. One should consult composite mehanics for the detailed setting. For example a the y-mosulus of a unidirectioal ply is the value of resin.
I did not try to make it conform with expermental data. I simply use a comparatively reasonable value. For research work, you need to consult your professor.

By "non-uniform thickness", it will be very simple if you mean different thickness in each layer. If you mean you want to make certain layer to have variable thickness, then it is something I do not know.
Do you know a way to determine the properties of the complete panel so you can create a completely new material out of it and create a non surface geometry?
Nivethan Thambirajah When we use the module, we have to think in terms of composite mechanics, since the procedules were written based on the theory. Therefore, I think composite module can only solve layered panel problem. We can define homogeneous anisotropic material, of course, but it is not composites. I think we can not define non-homogeneous anisotropic material using this module.

Nivethan Thambirajah Composite module is still in baby stage, we can detetmine the the bulk properties using such procedules. In ANSYS, we can write commands of failure criteria such as Wu-Tsai failure criteria and we can determine whether delamination occurs, but these are more advanced application only available in ANSYS, and we have to write ADPL commands ourselves, these instruction are available only through ANSYS training workshop. y modulus of unidrc composite is not matrix modulus. It's (Em*Ef)/(Em*Vf+Ef*Vm)
Thanks for great video. It seems its really hard to find young modulus, poisson ratio, etc in all x,y,z-direction..
where did you find them on google?
Yes if you search for T300 or T500. the properties are available in the websites of suppliers.

Is it possible to run an FEA analysis with a composite material(surface) with a regular part made of steel (has a thickness) in an assembly?
Nivethan Thambirajah I have never try to do that. May be not. Because composite panels use surface model as the geometry.
