I love this but do you think you could break down which strings you're hitting in the picking? Your way of explaining it is a little lost on me, using fingers instead of strings, especially once we move to the C. I'd appreciate it 😊
Hi this tutorial is phenomenal but the bridge is kicking my ass. I can tell it's not just straight up switching between the c & the g/b but I can't tell what you're doing
I have a question at 8:35. Your fingers are 1st finger 2nd fret of A and 3rd finger 3rd fret of B (Em7), but then you pluck the low E.... I don't see you pluck the A at all. I'm confused about why your 1st finger is even there or if I am misunderstanding.
No, that's right you don't actually play that string! So, yeah, you could skip that finger if you want. It's a funny thing when you're fingerpicking, a lot of people put down fingers on strings they're not gonna play just cause it's the chord they're playing even though they're not playing all the notes...Does that make sense?
@@KylesKorner Wow thank you so much for the quick and detailed reply. Yes, it does make sense. I am a beginner, and this is the first song I'm learning fingerstyle. But I can imagine that it would be more effort to remember the specific fingerings for each song than to remember the chord shapes, regardless of which strings you play :) A follow up question: then at 8:50 you call this same finger placement G/B. Why is that?
@@colorfullyme Well, notice in that one you DO pick the A string! G and Em7 are very similar chords, so on guitar they can actually be the played with the same fingers and it just changes based on what strings you strum or pick!

Hi Kyle, love the video! Just wanted to ask, why does my last E string in the G chord sounds much higher than yours? I did standard tuning and placed my capo on the fourth fret, but the last note still sounds different from yours. Any reason why? Thanks for all of your hard work :) please keep it up!
hey sorry i am getting back to old comments. does it sound actually higher, like higher pitched, or is it maybe just sound sorta "sharper"? could be the intonation of your guitar, for instance
If you mean the bottom e string (like the thinnest one), he is not playing that string in the G chord. I believe Kyle's ring finger is on the B string, which is the second lowest one.
Sometimes it takes a while to get the hang of it. You have to train your fingers to move in this way, because they’re not used to it. I can use a Travis picking pattern pretty well, but any other finger picking pattern gets me hung up.
have you done fingerpicking at all before? i'm planning to make a sorta basic fingerpicking video soon. but, yeah, "thumb thumb thumb index thumb middle" is how i'd think of the basic pattern but sometimes it's "thumb thumb thumb middle thumb index". does that help at all?
