Sean you are used to being in London where it is several degrees warmer by now...when I watch gardening programs or see articles about when to plant something, I always add on a couple of months as I am in the north of England. If it says plant this in January, then you know that in Lancashire (where I am) that means March!

Feeling spring! dafodils and blue bells, and snow drops... pushing up.... and maple trees with red tips...lilac trees, with tiny green leaves on tips, and the camelias blooming....I planted sweet peas late summer and they are chest high now but no flowers yet, and wintered over...I'm shocked....a few lite frosts have come and gone...I didnt want to loose them, so I tossed a clear plastic sheet over the tellis and anchored it down with a pipe across the bottom on both sides....We could still get more frost....getting the bug to garden....love it❤

The sunshine means very little when, in fact, today we are exactly 4 weeks into the Winter - (21 December 2024 to 18 January 2025) and Winter is 13 weeks. Only another 9 weeks to go until the official start of Spring.
I can understand because years ago when I was fit enough to be gardening I used to be very impatient, so much so that I purchased 4 little electric propogators so I could start off alot of my own plants in the house. It`s much cheaper than buying plants in the long term but of course you need the space. At the time we had two living rooms and I set up the propogators on a side board relatively close to the window.
That then led to me buying a cloche tor outside in the Spring and I had the task of carrying all the tender young plants outsid (inside the cloche) On warmer days I`d then open the cloche but still took the plants back inside mid to late afternoon.
This is where I became particularly impatient whilst of course Professional gardeners do say NOT to risk tender young plants outside until at least the end of May because there`s always the risk of a sharp frost. Looking back it makes sense while Summer does not commence until approx 20th - 22nd June.
Happy gardening - just be patient - enjoy each season all of which comes with it`s own beauty ❤

Read just a few of the comments and it seems people can’t resist telling you what to do, whether it’s money, your garden or your life. You must be amused by it all, otherwise it would drive you crazy. I so enjoy just listening to your story for the day, gardening ideas, and home improvements. You are an expert gardener and whatever you buy for the garden will be a lovely addition. Much good luck with everything.

The Bone Broth: Have a look on the packaging to see if you can freeze it Sean. If you think you won’t use it before it goes out of date, it might be worth freezing it.
It’s definitely worth using one in the cawl though.

Electric kettles are safest but your new one is nice looking. I once left my house forgetting a sausage was boiling in water. I arrived home just as the water was all gone and sausage browning. Miracle. So now stay in the kitchen when cooking. Lesson learned. There's super cold coming here but the longer light in the evenings is hopeful.

Our weather in winter is very similar to where you are, beautiful sunny days at times and yes frost everywhere… seems if the skies are clear the night before, we wake up to a thick layer of frost …I’ve lost so many plants due to it … I now end up putting my veg in big pots in back concrete under cover, I don’t have a poly tunnel and you really need one here otherwise weather and rabbits/wallabies eat the lot 😮

I have noticed it drawing out at night. Not so much lighter in the mornings as I'm usually watching you 😅. The weather gods have been kind to me this week we had a new roof on . Was worried after the snow and ice last week but we had a week of sun in South Yorkshire, no rain so the roof is all done just have to have the scaffolding taken down then i can get in the front garden and sort it out as even though I've got raised beds and flower boarders they walked all over it. Wouldn't have been so bad if they had made one path but they didn't it's the only downside 😔

I was reading the comments before adding my own and noticed that RUclips has done a handy little feature where they put the name of something being discussed in blue with a magnifying glass emoji over it. I just tapped it and voila! a picture and description of the plant you bought was on the screen! 😂

Could have been a disaster leaving that kettle on Sean! I have OCD and always have to check everything is off (more than once) before I go outside. But you were in a rush to catch that bus I know. It is very frustrating when you have the energy to do a job, but you can not because of one thing or another, as it was with your frozen ground at The Rusty Homestead. At least you got to start your lovely arch. Blessings from a cold and frosty Wet Devon, England, and Jilly & Madge. xxx

Good to know about the P.O. Box. Do you you still want the Big Chief tablets? The ones I see are top glued but not spiral bound.....yes?
It's cold and some days wet near San Francisco .. But yes, 2 days ago I saw the light angle change in the morning! Comes in a particular window and all but blinds me for a few days spring and fall!

Top glued are what I’m looking for. Someone in America has found them so I should get them mid-February.
