What's the longest you have gone without picking up your banjo and how long did it take to get back into it? For me, I took 3 months off and it took me about a month of daily practice to get back into it.

You are doing really great! Wish you a swift recovery (meanwhile can try the two-fingers style :)

Sounds like you're doing great. I believe the real important thing here is when you say how much you missed your banjo. That makes you a real musician, in my humble opinion. It's incredible the attachment we develop sometimes with the right instrument. I tried/played a lot of different instruments but never have I had a sort of friendship as with my banjo. And, mind you, I've been playing for less than a year. We just clicked. I've recently been away for a month overseas (this answers half of your question in the first comment) and as soon as I got back home I was surpried to find myself greeting my banjo as if it were a relative or some beloved pet. I've actually missed it. And just as an old friend, you can be separated for a while but that connection is back as new in no time. I know this sounds soooo cheasy, haha.

Hey Claudio...are you not able to bring your banjo with you? I get what you're saying. One of my brothers bought me an electric guitar over 10 years ago. It's been sitting in its stand in my living room this whole time, and I've never had the urge to pick it up and learn to play it. Whereas, with the banjo I can't stand going a day without picking it up! I purposely don't put it in the living room, because if I see it, I will pick it up and play it while my wife is trying to watch a show.

That's actually not bad for two weeks, your timing isn't too off. I go cold pretty quick too.

@@2000HoursofBanjohiya, I had to think about that one, looks like 14 months for me. Progress has been slow, the main thing for me is to avoid frustration and knowing when to walk away as mental exhaustion settles in. If you’re still healing up, I recommend you read “the practice of practice” by Jonathan Harnum

@@2000HoursofBanjohuh my reply disappeared. I’ve been at it for 14 months, the main thing for me has been to know when to walk away when exhaustion settles in to avoid frustration. If you’re stuck not playing, I recommend you read “the practice of practice” it’s a great read!
