Wonderful information...especially for households with many children. Good job! Adventures with Cheryl

Thanks so much! Yes, it's a great option for homes with children and for homes with older adults. Basically, it's just a good safety thing to do and at the end of the day, don't we all want to be safer?

I am sending this video to my mother. She cares for an elderly lady that likes to try to cook when no one is home even though she shouldn't. The woman tried to cook some corn on the stove recently but forgot about it. By the time my mom got there it was dry, scorched, and smoking. The fact that she didn't burn the place down and my mother happened to show up on an irregular day was a miracle.

Ugh. What a story! So glad that your mom got there in time!
What might help that woman more is a auto shut off device for the stove. That type of product is set up to shut off the stove top after a specific amount of time. Here are three articles that have that information.

Thank you so much! I will pass those links along as well. She definitely needs an auto shut off!

Robin, well done! You have the best ideas and tips. We had a gas range in our first little home (mobile home). We came home one day after college, and smoke was billowing out of the windows. Our little dog had smelled the pizza left in a pizza box on top of our stove. She pawed the stove trying to get the pizza, and had accidentally ignited the gas burner which caught the pizza Box on fire, and that was what was burning and causing the smoke. Our little dog was just fine, we got home just in time! I can see why having safety knobs is so important. Thanks for sharing this. Hope all is well! 🙂👍

OMG - that's an amazing story. Glad your fur baby was okay and no one was hurt. But wow, that is a testimonial for products like this for sure! Thanks for sharing.

They seem easy enough to install too. I’ve seen people put bar -like things over the knobs to childproof them, this is much more elegant and effective . Very useful video Robin, as usual!

instructional and educational as usual! At first I thought it looked pretty easy to get them to turn but then saw your friends daughter try to turn them and I was like, wow they do work! Thanks for sharing.

Yes, it would seem as if they would be easy but looks can be deceiving I guess!

Very good information. I never knew, and that is the point with videos, to learn something, right?

Exactly! There's so much to learn and it always seems easier with a video!

Great product review. It seems that most stoves in Australia are electric, at least that's been my experience as only certain areas are connected to gas otherwise you need to order bottled gas. I lived in a house a few years ago that had a gas stove and I often worried about accidentally bumping the knobs and having gas escape quietly into the air and posing a threat. This is an excellent idea. Thank you for sharing. 🙏👏

It's a very real concern. These knobs were developed after the creator learned of someone whose dog tried to get on the counter to get leftover food in the middle of the night. The dog accidentally turned on the gas stove, igniting a pan and starting a kitchen fire. I'm glad you never had a problem with your gas stove. Thanks for watching! :)

safety knobs just protect children from turning them, they don't turn off the burners or warn you if you left it on.

That is correct, the purpose of the safety knobs is to keep someone, children or seniors with dementia or Alzheimer's or other cognitive impairment from turning on the stove.
Otherwise, an auto shut off device is what is recommended to turn the stove off if left on.
You can read more about these shut off devices here.

What ever happened to these knobs being standard coming with your new stove. Government letting any Ole things come into country.

Oh, I don't remember these knobs ever being standard with the stove but maybe they were.
