Knight Rider especially was one of the first multi season US daytime action series we had over here. His music was already considered corny back then, and when we want to make fun of ourselves and the sometimes questionable music taste, we remind everyone that David Hasselhoff once had a number 1 hit in the German speaking countries.😂 That being said, this Iggy Pop cover is actually quite good. I'm sure he would have been more respected musically, if he'd gone along the route of Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen, but he would have never sold that amount of records to corny German speakers like that.

The beat of the song itself has a lot of positive vibe which a lot of Germans like,
And the Berlin Wall came down, and a song about “freedom" was 100% coinciding with the spirit at this moment in time .
