insurance companies needs to be forced into non profit organizations. or they should be forced to return all premiums paid if they drop someone. they should not be allowed to just drop people like this.
I heard after the '91 Oakland hills fire those who's houses didn't burn ended up kicking themselves bc all the less fortunate neighbors all got huge brand new homes as replacements
It's an excuse due to the cost of a rebuild....Listen, if i was in the bizz, I wouldn't wanns shell out either...I hope people don't take it personally....If everyone has a million dollar home, then what?
In a way you gotta see the insurers point of view. Orinda is heavily wooded, with small two lane roads winding through hilly terrain. Being on the east side of hills, it routinely goes into the high 90's from spring through the fall. Often over 100. Were a fire to start there, it would be a challenge for emergency responders. Then, topping it off, the home values out there are stratospheric, meaning the losses insurers would be saddled with would deplete or even empty their reserves. I don't have all the answers for this situation, but it does seem that our zeal to have ever increasing property values has a finite end, beyond which the entire system breaks down.
the states plans will not cover the cost to rebuild. she didn't say anything about not affording it. Also she lived there for 20 years she probably paid $400k for the home. and could not afford to buy it today.
took money from the homeowners for years and then just dropped them like nothing. The people should be able to get some of that money back if they do not use it.
Racket-alism. Same state where squatters have rights over homeowners😭. At this point they're begging us to leave the state. Had both my home and business property insurance dropped. The whole thing is just a joke to be honest.
@@masonite1973 Tricky question. I'm off and on. Honestly, I might not vote this year, which I am well aware, if I don't vote, then I need to be quite, but, in all honesty, every time I've voted, nothing has come of it. I participate in the community and volunteer my time. I also prefer to vote with what I choose to spend money on. That's the vote they see more than anything.
The fires were preventable. 50 years of leftist environmentalists preventing professionals from doing their jobs. On the other hand, there are a few privately owned and professionally managed forests that survived the fires unscathed because there was nothing to burn. Southern California Edison owns this property near Shaver Lake east of Fresno. The public forest was burned to a crisp, but the SCE owned forest in the center of it was was unscathed.
Please, these homes are multi million dollar homes. These neighbors are wealthy enough to start putting money aside to self insure. Most of these homes are not made of flame retardant materials and will burn 100% to the ground and the insurance companies know it.
Well first off, send a thank you note to your local and federal government during to their stupid policies. Secondly, what’s the F…….ing insurance is good for when you can’t claim anything. Either your insurance going to be canceled or higher premiums. If the national policy is to have a homeowner insurance before buying house. Than government should be forcing these insurances going none profits or provide other options.
Yes. I know a client out there has shake shingle roof, surrounded by towering redwoods that have deposited many inches of highly flammable fronds on it. This roof would go up like a roman candle. Been like that for years and years. Any insurer using Google Earth would see this disaster waiting to occur.
Insurance companies placing bets that the next big wildfire will be in Orinda
homes prices are outrageous out there. Nice area but too many problems with homes on the hills.
If they think insurance is going up wait until they see the pg&e rate this summer starting $0.62/kwh

Insurance for homes is silly ... waste of money ... obsolete now that the house is a fraction of the value of the land
I heard after the '91 Oakland hills fire those who's houses didn't burn ended up kicking themselves bc all the less fortunate neighbors all got huge brand new homes as replacements
but still pay high taxes and insurance
I feel sad for the home owners. I used to visit this place often. I enjoyed the peaceful moments and the festivals.
It's an excuse due to the cost of a rebuild....Listen, if i was in the bizz, I wouldn't wanns shell out either...I hope people don't take it personally....If everyone has a million dollar home, then what?
Where is Newson? Nowhere!
Lol these are 5-15 million dollar homes, why the hell would newsom help
what is the point of insurance if they get to choose where or who they want to insurance, this country is done for 😮😮😮
Exactly, easy money, pure scams
After years of paying $$$$$$ into Insurance Co. coffers- their definition of “sustainability” is a Big FU to homeowners.
The queens of CANCEL culture…..
CANCELED!!!!!
😂😂😂
I'm in Phoenix and my home insurance is $1400 a year. I'd love to live in beautiful California but holding tight here.
Future open space..east bay regional parks may have a new source for more land
If they're going to drop them then they should be able to get a full refund for all the times they paid their insurance.
Its not just those in Orinda. My parents live in Pleasant Hill. I have a feeling its a designed racket. Just wild times
Class action lawsuit against insurance companies taking all the years of premiums then dropping customers

If you can own a four million dollar home, you can afford to pay for higher insurance through the state.

Bitter are we

Funny all the eco hysteria hippies who are responsible for these ridiculous laws now can’t get insurance coverage for their homes 😂

These are 5-15 million dollar homes, paying $5-10k per year for insurance is insanely low. Im paying $5k a year for my $1.6 million property!
Finally , she's back !
Please, these homes are multi million dollar homes. These neighbors are wealthy enough to start putting money aside to self insure. Most of these homes are not made of flame retardant materials and will burn 100% to the ground and the insurance companies know it.
The state needs to step up and insure my expensive beautiful home…. I’m entitled to state funded coverage…I demand it now
How tF is California letting this happen to us??? 😡

Don’t own houses in disaster prone areas.
This is good news, y’all saying 8k a year.
Insurance companies are fearing that "The Big One" will come soon
Wildfires and wildings cause insurance to go sky-high.
Paint your roof bluuu...
Sell your home. Oh no you cant sell it.
Yasaman? Great name.

You're not in good hand with Allstate ?
Like a bad neighbor State farm won't be there......?
very high income area on top of a mountain. These people have money and they can pay every year for their insurance so stop crying poor mouth.
I guess you didn't watch the video the insurance company wont insure
To All. The insurance companies are in business to make a profit. They make the rules. Between wildfires and earthquakes, California has a problem.
Even they understood its beautiful but a craphole of a state run by a greasy governor 😊
They should just sell the house and move out of Orinda. But wait. No one will buy the house LOL..Nevermind.
Tom Holland?!!
Chop down the vegetation...and more. That's all. Don't act special.
California has laws against that I believe.

That’s your beautiful Capitalism
This problem was caused by government intervention. Good old socialism at work.
It's due to regulations, taxes and laws that make it near impossible to do business in California in general
Democrat utopia
