      For you, what is compelling about this car? According to other channels there are "mechanically" better cars in China for the price. The USP is self driving capability, but it hasn't been proven yet in the M03 Mona?

    • @InsideChinaAuto
      @InsideChinaAuto  2 месяца назад +4

      @@Harrythehun Not sure what they mean by mechanically better cars for the price. XPeng says there are two other competitors, one is definitely the BAIC EU500, and that has lower specs than this and no self-driving. I used the self-driving on the highway and it was great in the time we used it, no issues at all. I wouldn't buy one myself I don't think, I don't really like the interior, but I'd take it over an EU500.

    It is definitely one of the best bargains for under $18K. Many will now think about switching to EVs because they are cheaper to buy than ICE & much cheaper to run. Over the next 3 to 4 years, many will be buying up 2nd hand models for $10k or less. This also highlights that legacy manufacturers have been making 12- 20% profit margins on their cars. How did Volkswagon find £100 billion to invest in Xpeng!? I expect China will be making their own processors very soon. The competition is heating up now. Teslas reign may be coming to end in China, primarily because the Chinese can build better. The only barrier for China & potential customers across the world is Western Govt cartels, eg, protectionism, who subjugate the concept of fair trade & free markets. Trade wars with China don't work.

    • @InsideChinaAuto
      @InsideChinaAuto  2 месяца назад

      Can only agree with all you said. Even without subsidies, which are a way to stimulate an industry and not exclusively used by China, you could charge twice as much for these cars and in many cases they'd still be cheaper and far better equipped than their European counterparts. Looking at the Li Auto L6 in China compared to a Mercedes-Benz GLE as an example. The comparison isn't even close and the Li is about 40% of the price.

      It's kind of a sub-brand within the main brand. I know some brands make a whole new brand but XPeng haven't gone down that route with this one. It's almost like a model line but much cheaper than the main one.

    Needs more technical discussion and less about the trinkets.
    Like that it’s a torsion beam rear and simple macpherson strut suspension and that it’s front wheel drive - what the torque steer like and how’s the handling compared to more sophisticated designs? Not jsut ride comfort, actual handling?
    Brakes? Regen and friction performance?
    I can drive a car, I couldn’t care less about self driving and parking gimmicks - I want to know how it actually drives.

    • @InsideChinaAuto
      @InsideChinaAuto  2 месяца назад

      Well if you listened to about the second line in the video, you'll have heard there was very limited time actually driving the car and not enough on a variety of roads, so those discussions will have to wait until a longer review. Anyone telling you they got a chance to try it out completely probably didn't do any real filming or is giving you info based on nothing.

    • @froggy0162
      @froggy0162 2 месяца назад +1

      @@InsideChinaAutoYou had time to faff around with gimmicks on the screen though? You never found a corner to put the boot and see if it torque steers?
      I know that most people care more about gadgets than the base engineering and what makes a car actually a car… It’s depressing.
      Anyway, I like the simple approach to engineering int be suspension if it’s tuned well - a torsion beam handles well in a Renault Megane sport for example!! If they made this in RHD and brought it to Australia I’d be keen - it’s a proper lift back, I quite like the styling and if they got the suspension tuning right it could be a good drive.

    • @InsideChinaAuto
      @InsideChinaAuto  2 месяца назад

      @froggy0162 Sadly no, there were no such corners available during the daylight hours. We went from the hotel to the static filming location directly, following a camera car to get some driving footage, just open dual carriageways there, then it was pretty much all highway and urban roads to the parking, by which point it was dark, so no. I could fiddle with the gimmicks on the boring road while the car pretty much drove itself, hence I covered what was available.
