  • I "an eye rolling skeptic" whose attitude was often not so great, completed FlyLady's baby steps, and I was shocked by the results! If you have been keeping up with me and my 31 days of FlyLady Baby Steps, then you may remember ALL these spaces I decluttered! These are my shocking results! In 15 minutes a day of decluttering (for 21 days) my house has changed! I still have a ways to go, and have had a lot of recommendations for other cleaning programs....do I change it up and try something else? Or stick with the FlyLady's baby steps and system!
    Do you love these shocking before and after results of me completing FlyLady's baby steps? I for one loved the decluttering and organizing that was completed during the FlyLady process! So what do you think, does FlyLady work? Tell me below what you think!

    Honestly I think flylady "system" is really something that isn't just about cleaning. It's about the whole. Taking care of your home as well as yourself and planning. So I think you can stick with flylady even as you add other cleaning systems or implement parts for them since the flylady "system" is completely customizable. You don't have to do the 31 Babysteps and you don't have to do them in order. I would say that there are probably about 3-4 baby steps (habits) that are a must to start off with. Like the keeping your kitchen sink clean (dishes), and some other key habits. For example I don't do the same 7 tasks that the flylady does on her weekly home blessing. I chose 7 tasks that I wanted completed and I work those instead. I don't have magazines so I instead declutter paperwork. Another woman said she doesn't like dressing to shoes and she instead dresses to socks.

      What a great way to sum up the FlyLady system! I thing this way of describing it is super helpful when I get discouraged! That I don't have to do it all "FlyLady's way" customize it to what I like! Thank you!!!

    Great start! The truth of the clutter is that you will need to declutter 15 minutes a day forever. Make peace with it and flex those declutter muscles. I've been at it for quite a while and am finally starting to get it all out or organized. Now my decluttering is visiting spaces mostly to clean for sure and finding it easier to have things leave the house that I haven't used. It feels like I can breathe.

      I can understand that! Things come in everyday right?! So it has to go somewhere! I am excited to work on the areas I did not get to in the 31 days!

    Don't be impatient. Give Fly Lady like 3 years and you will get the house that you want. You need to do a NO SPEND FOR A MONTH CHALLENGE.
    You cannot be decluttering and still buying.
    I want you to revisit your first video. Quite a big attitude change from Day 1 to Day 32.
    I just completed my Weekly Home Blessing. This resets my house for the week.
    I think the game changer is to get up before the other members of your household and empty the dishwasher and put away everything and have the sink and dishwasher ready to receive stuff.
    Go to Diane in Denmark now or Fly lady Kat. Both are excellent.

    This next phase will make you feel like the beginning of the babysteps. But if you just follow the routine that they lay out - after the first rotation, you'll look back and be surprised out how much is done. Each zone rotation gets easier and easier and cleaner and cleaner! And before you start to panic in August and September about not doing any deep cleaning - it'll be time for the fall cleaning, and there's a list and a schedule for it!! It'll make you VERY happy :)

    Can i also recommend Dana K White? She's the decluttering queen! You can still stick with flylady, but if your're overwhelmed on how to approach decluttering she has the answers! Even if you're not overwhelmed she helps to streamline the process! She also has a book called "Decluttering at the Speed of Life". You will NOT regret checking her out! There are two videos that are a must watch! The first one is "My only two decluttering questions" and the other video is "Container concept".

    Well done! I started the Fly Lady system at the beginning of June, but with the app. To be honest I’m not following the baby steps, but I’m getting there with the routines! Declutering is the biggest challenge for me.

    • @ADomesticWannabe
      @ADomesticWannabe  2 года назад +2

      I do have the app now! And, I really like it - SO easy to use! I think the one thing I learned from this experience, is just do your best. Declutter a space for 15 minutes - weather you decide to get rid of 1 item, or 10 it is still progress! I picked the space that I knew would be easiest first (my front coat closet) I started at the end of spring which for MN weather meant it was "kind of" safe to get rid of winter coats (move to a new home for summer), and purses that I forgot I owned! Then I moved to my closet - again season change made it easy to get rid of clothes I did not wear all winter! These spaces gave me momentum to really LOVE seeing the pile grow! Spaces that were hard (emotionally) took me more then a few days to do! You got this!
      One of my viewers said taking a shoe box and filling it is a great way to start too! Keep me posted on how it is going for you! I am cheering you on!

      @@ADomesticWannabe Yes I have to remind myself progress over perfection! I’m doing ok, some days I do good, others not so much. What slows me as well is that there are some clothes I want to put through consignment bit in my town there are on’y specific dates you can go. My appointment will be in September for Fall clothes. So in the meantime it’s still in my house. But the decisions have been made to get rid of those. ☺️

    Congrats on reaching your 1K mark! Woohoo!
    What a mountain of declutter! Fantastic!
    I know you are frustrated with the lack of cleaning, but if you had split your focus between deep cleaning and on decluttering this past month, you'd only have half the declutter pile you do.
    Where flylady is great is for people that are paralyzed by perfection/depression or those that overdo and burn out and quit. Like with exercise, often people jump in the deep end and go all out, only to injure themselves or quit cos the can't sustain the routine. It's the people that ease in and keep going and slowly add to what they expect from themselves that made sustainable changes. Sustainable changes are the ONLY ones that count.
    I've never done a garage sale before , I'll be watching and learning.

      And, I have only done 1 garage sale before. And, I will be honest I swore I would NEVER do another one! But, I have SOO much stuff from my office clean out video, and a few kitchen cleanouts, and now this process, that it just made sense to give it another go. Then donate the rest! I am SO excited to see the before and afters of the garage at the end of summer!!! I think it will be EPIC!

    Zone cleaning will help your dust and scum. Decluttering helps the cleaning part because there’s less to clean. Think of how fast the maids at a hotel are because there’s not much in the way of the cleaning and they have their check list.

    Yay! Rainbow 🌈 order 📚. You did declutter a lot! I think 15 minutes a day would stress me out. I’d do rather clean and organize, but I have gone through my stuff. I just have too much
    You uncovered your secret super power, decluttering.

    • @ADomesticWannabe
      @ADomesticWannabe  2 года назад +1

      Haha! Yes, I think you are right! Decluttering just clicked for me in this journey! As far as it being harder for you, I totally get it! Before I started the baby steps I cleaned out my storage room. And there was two sections; my son's baby clothes, and my memorabilia section that I just did not have the energy to go through (and would not even try in my 15 minutes a day for this). I want to give myself time to look at everything, and not make it a rushed job!
      I loved your idea of filling a shoe box with stuff! You shared that at the beginning of this, it is such a great way to start! I guess what my question is for you, is do you think the stuff your referencing is clutter? Because if you have gone through it, and you want it or need it, then I don't think it is clutter. But, maybe it needs a new home/space in your house? I think you should keep anything you want that means something to you - if you want it (for whatever reason), then I absolutely do not think it is clutter! (This might not be FlyLady advice....remember I did not get the emails)! 😉
      I just had a lot of junk in the areas I worked on for this, so it seemed easier! **But if anyone reads this that is coming to my garage sale....its all top of the line junk! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

      @@ADomesticWannabe I wouldn’t say it’s clutter because I want it. I moved to a house that’s 1,000 ft smaller. Before we moved we put stuff that wasn’t important to have in the smaller house right away in a pod, this way we could pack in stages as we go. Though in moving day, it was still a full day of help needed.
      After we moved into the house I realized that I didn’t want the pod to show up, the smaller amount was all we needed, but didn’t want to pay the storage fee, $200 a month so I had it dropped off. I planned on getting rid of at least 60%. I would say I got rid of 30%. There was more in there unexpectedly that I wanted to keep. Though every time we moved I go through everything and after we move, to donate stuff. So I’ll probably never be a minimalist but I do like trying.
      I’m selling nice furniture right now to free up space and that gives me space for about 4 totes under the stairs.
      We had a storage room in our original house, no such thing as basements in Oregon, all the rain. Also a little space in the garage but not much since we insist on parking our 2 cars in the 2 car garage.
      So no basement or garage storage, that is for new homes in Oregon. To get storage or backyard space you have to buy older homes here.
