How awesome to see the cape Charles rail yard! It's 5 mins from my house. A friend of mine just recently past away worked for the rail yard there. He lost his arm in a work accident there. RIP Danny
So much has changed (except Lamberts Point): 1) The NS line was sold a few years ago to VB, part of the Light Rail line from Downtown Norfolk to Newton Road has been built, while the rest is in the planning stages 2) Car ferry still there, under new operator 3) Still there, got in trouble after fuel spill in canal though 4) Amtrak hasn't stopped at Lee Hall since early 90s, station also moved across the street in 2009 and is being restored 5) Still going as far as I know, BG has expanded since
Wow. Great video. I always loved when freight traveled down those rails. Back in 2005, My dad used to walk me up to a grade crossing every afternoon to see a train go by. If I'm not mistaken, the line was cut down by the ocean front first before the whole line was abandoned. Business went scarce so therefore no trains. Now half of its used for light rail but I will always remember and cherish those days!!!
I have the original VHS tape that I recorded these programs in sequence and all on one tape. I have provided DVD copies to the Tidewater Division NMRA and a few friends. These videos are now historic, especially now that the Beach Train no longer runs. I am glad to see this Video again making the rounds. George Schmidt
This video predicted the future when it said it would be used for light rail. Even though the action wasn't much, I do have very fond memories of chasing the trains up Virginia Beach Boulevard and catching it about four times on Friday evenings back when I was in middle school. I miss the NS trains very much.
I love that this video exist along with the tidewater video and yours. Shows different parts of the VB line in action and a caboose. Would’ve loved if they caught footage of the oceanfront but I do like the shots at Lynnhaven and Witchduck. Pretty nice! Yall 3 videos are absolute gold!

You are correct, that portion of the line by the oceanfront was abandoned in 1995
