  • The Mormon Church claims that Joseph Smith was foretold in Old Testament prophecy. Let's examine those claims in this verse by verse study of Romans 1:1-5.
This study is part of a series on the book of Romans from pastor Mike Winger. Check this RUclips channel for more messages from Mike Winger.

Perhaps you could answer my question since you are no longer Mormon. How do you follow the Jesus of the Bible without the priesthood and baptism? Jesus was perfect and he still was baptized by John which had the priesthood to baptize. It’s pretty clear we all need to be baptized, but how if no church has the priesthood?

@@koltoncrane3099 The question is not what you should be asking. The question you should be asking" Do Mormons hold the Priesthood of Aaron and the Melchizedek order. The answer according to the Holy Bible is no
What did the Priest of Aaron do basically? they did animal sacrifices to God. What happen to the Temple when Jesus Christ died on the Cross. The temple veils were rent. Signifying that Jesus final sacrifice put an end to the Levitical or lower priesthood.
Basically you are practicing a false priesthood. As for Melchizedek only Jesus Christ holds that order. No one else. it can not be handed down. The power of Melchizedek can work miracles. No man has this power only Jesus Christ
Read Hebrews chapter 7 if you want to have your eyes open. There is no need for Prophets or Apostles running a church
Our Lord God is the last Prophet. There is the spirit of prophecy which is a gift. But any one claiming to be a Prophet is a False Prophet . second Peter 2
And when the Apostles finished their missions spreading and setting up Christ's gospel There was no need for Apostles after they perished
We are disciples of Christ and can give our life as a pastor, Elder , teacher etc.which are positions recognized as a body that is govern by the Grace of God

@@Robinfuckable I agree with you partially. Some people claim they hold the priesthood because they went to priest school and got it there. Read Acts 8:12 . It says that the man has the power of god which is the priesthood since Philip baptized them in the name of Jesus. You can't baptize someone if you don't have the authority. That's why John the Baptist baptized people because he had the aaronic priesthood. But those same people didn't receive the holy ghost because John the Baptist didn't have the Melchizedek priesthood. Act 8: 17 they conferred the holy ghost by the laying on of hands. Acts 8: 18-20. Simon tried to buy this power but was rebuked.
Matt. 16:13-19, Peter received the keys of the kingdom of heaven on the mount of transfiguration. He received the sealing power which Elijah had to seal the heavens. This we believe to be the key of sealing which you obtain once you have the higher priesthood.
Matt 10: 1-8 the apostles received power to cast out spirits and heal the afflicted. This clearly shows that the apostles had power. This power always though was the Melchizedek priesthood. Why do you think that the apostles never received this priesthood when they could cast out spirits, heal people, and confer on people the Holy Ghost?

    • @koltoncrane3099
      @koltoncrane3099 5 лет назад

@@Robinfuckable I read Hebrews 7. I've read it before and I don't see where it says we no longer need prophets. Without the authority no man can baptize in christs name. Even John the Baptist and the apostles needed the authority to baptize or give the gift of the holy ghost. The chapter mentions Jesus. When Jesus rent the temple curtain and died on the cross he ended the law of Moses so sacrifices were no longer needed, but instead a broken heart and contrite spirit. Perhaps you could pick out the verse that says theres no need for the priesthood? Because if the apostles had it and John the Baptist had it I kind of think we still need it for baptism and the Holy Ghost.

I was once heavily indoctrinated into Mormonism in the early 1980's ~ 2000's and can tell you the many things I was taught regarding the deeper theology they were teaching.
What I see, even to this day, are many different answers from Mormons and they confuse their own speech, their own understanding, but are quick to fall back on "pray about the Book of Mormon until you get the right answer" which is what I was told by Mormon leaders back in those times.
They kept referencing these "feelings" and you have to help Mormons understand their own theology first, by oftentimes showing them their own beliefs that are listed on their Mormon website, as many refute much of the deeper theologies they teach until you show them.
I pray for all Mormons that more will have their eyes opened to the truth of the correct Christ, the correct God, of the Bible.

Paul was initially named Saul and was born in the city of Tarsus in modern-day Turkey. He was raised in the Pharisee sect of Judaism, a sect known for its strict adherence to Old Testament laws.
Saul went on to become an expert in Jewish law and historians believe that he was a member of the Sanhedrin, the Jewish high court who was most infamously known for turning Jesus over to the Roman authorities to be tried and crucified.
In his religious extremism, Saul displayed no compassion for any Jew believed to be violating the Jewish laws. For example, Scripture tells us that Saul witnessed and consented to the stoning of Stephen, the first Christian martyr (Acts 7:58; 8:1).
After Stephen was killed, Saul was part of “a great persecution” of the early Christian church, imprisoning and beating Christian men and women in an attempt to stamp out Christianity (Acts 8:1,3).
Ironically, Saul’s attempt to smother Christianity actually had the effect of fanning its flames beyond the city of Jerusalem. More specifically, the exiled Christians did not go into hiding but became missionaries who spread the Good News of Jesus Christ wherever they went (Acts 8:4).
Outraged by the spread of Christianity beyond Jerusalem’s walls, Saul left Jerusalem to hunt down and imprison the Christians who were preaching in Damascus (Acts 9:1-2).
It was on the road to Damascus that Saul literally saw the light and heard the voice of Jesus asking Saul for the account of his role in the persecution of Christians (Acts 9:3-6). Saul would go on to repent and go from being a zealous persecutor of Christians to a zealous evangelist of Christianity (Acts 9:18-20).
Saul preached so extensively throughout the Roman Empire that he eventually adopted the Roman version of his name, Paul.
During these missionary journeys, Paul wrote letters to the churches he founded in Asia Minor and Europe.
In these letters, Paul further educated the new Christian communities about Jesus’ teachings and how they should live as brothers and sisters in Christ.

So this is a bit dated,
but I was following along and noticed the quotation from Isaiah 29:20-22,
What the Joseph Smith version is fabricating sounds like a weak paraphrase from earlier in Isaiah 29:11-12
"And the vision of all this has become to you like words of a book that is sealed. When men give it to one who can read, saying, "Read this," he says, "I cannot, for it is sealed." And when they give the book to one who cannot read, saying, "Read this," he says, "I cannot read."
In the actual bible, those verses are pointing out a negative aspect that people had turned away from the Lord and are now staggering and confused and all kinds of messed up from their rejection of the Lord.
Ironically not the best verses to be cherry picking from.
I'm assuming that quote from Horton and his book of who, using Isaiah 29 was just them not knowing the bible, because they obviously don't read it, but just wanted to point that out from the whole chapter context.

Mike spreads an error here. At 42:08 to 45:30 Mike helps spread -perhaps inadvertently, the old false teaching idea that Paul was the first to preach to the Gentiles and that Jews were reluctant to accept this unless they first became Jews. Mike then says, "But Paul's like declaring it. It's ALL nations."
This is not the case. Peter preached to and baptized Gentiles at the house of Cornelius in Haifa. Then when he returned to Jerusalem to answer criticism of Apostles and believers there, he described what happened and Acts 11 :18 says of his church critics,
When they heard this, they had no further objections and praised God, saying, “So then, even to Gentiles God has granted repentance that leads to life.”
Then the VERY NEXT LINES say:
Now those who had been scattered by the persecution that broke out when Stephen was killed traveled as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus and Antioch, spreading the word only among Jews. Some of them, however, men from Cyprus and Cyrene, went to Antioch and began to speak to Greeks also, telling them the good news about the Lord Jesus. The Lord’s hand was with them, and a great number of people believed and turned to the Lord. News of this reached the church in Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas to Antioch. When he arrived and saw what the grace of God had done, he was glad and encouraged them all to remain true to the Lord with all their hearts. Acts 11:19-23
All this was before Paul had preached to a single Gentile. In fact it then says in the next verses that Barnabas went to Tarsus to look for Paul and brought him back up to Antioch and exposed him to it there. This took many days of travel there and back on foot. So if anyone tells you like Mike did that the Jews were reluctant to accept Gentiles being saved but Paul wins them over , or declares otherwise to convince them, ....no. They were convinced by Peter and Barnabas and the other un-named men that it was right to accept Gentiles even before Paul first preached to them.

What they completely miss is that yes, Jonah wasn't perfect... He tried to run from what God wanted him to do, however, after doing as God instructed his prophesy came true. Some of Joseph Smith's prophesies did not, therefore, according to the Bible he was a false prophet and all his prophesies should be ignored. Matthew, yes, wasn't perfect. He was a tax collector which meant he was likely a bit of a thief, charging people more than he should, but once he was following Jesus, he changed and put the teachings of Jesus and following Jesus first. Joseph Smith had numerous wives... The LDS will say many people had many wives in the Bible. However, just because they had many wives didn't mean God approved. Also, once a person becomes a Christian, their heart is changed and they strive to do what is right. They aren't perfect but they try to be. I forget how many wives Smith had and I don't care enough to look it up lol... But if he was a Christian, he only would have had one. He wouldn't have been perfect, he would have slipped up now and then because he was human, but having numerous wives isn't a slip up. It's not the same as telling a lie in the heat of the moment and then recognizing though the work of the Holy spirit that you were wrong, asking for forgiveness because you slipped up, and striving to do better next time. It's a conscious and blatant rebellion against God. I don't understand how they don't see that. But the Bible says Satan will prevent some non-believers from seeing the truth.

As you may know, Reform Doctrine hangs heavily on Predestination. So for them God chooses who He decides to save. God's perfect will cannot be thwarted. So for them, They could answer it this way. Your salvation isn't based on any effort or work that you do (lest you have opportunity to boast). God chose all of the elect from before the beginning of time. The hearing or not hearing of the Gospel then has nothing to do with it...in a sense. God may choose to save all who never heard or none. It is completely up to Him. The Arminian may counter with an argument of how that is fundamentally unfair because it suggests that in not choosing others God specifically created them for the fire. He is God, isn't He? Logically speaking ... If man has no part in His own salvation then why wouldn't God save everyone. But ultimately one can scale back both positions to God and His foreknowledge at some point. He is ultimately culpable under both systems.
As a one time believer, I, too, used to wrestle with this question (and much more in depth) until I realized perhaps I was asking the wrong question.

      One time believer?
In any case, though I think it is not unjust for God to condem people who have not heard his message (since we are afterall sinners, and deserved to die in the first place(Ephisians 2:1-9)), given that the Bible says God is all-loving, all-powerful, and all-just, this leads us to the conclucion that everyone in some way, shape or form has had the chance to repent and live, before and after Jesus. Afterall we have verses that tell us that God's desire is for all men to come to repentence (1 Timothy 2:4; 2 Peter 3:9).
Well... instead of writing a lot here I'll just give you the website.

When I look at other Bible verses however I get a different picture... more research needed.
