Jesus vs Joseph Smith: Romans 1:1-5

- The Mormon Church claims that Joseph Smith was foretold in Old Testament prophecy. Let's examine those claims in this verse by verse study of Romans 1:1-5.
This study is part of a series on the book of Romans from pastor Mike Winger. Check this RUclips channel for more messages from Mike Winger.
Mike, you forgot the BEST prophecy of Joseph Smith in the Bible. Matthew 24:11 - "And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray."
He didn’t forget. He talks about that in other videos. Joseph Smith… feel bad for all he led astray 😢
Mike Winger is a lying idiot.
Egotistical narcissistic liar, Mike Winger
Exactly what I think when I see all these Mormons or any cults.. didn't they read that verse? I feel terrible for the people born into these cults
Jesus said beware in the last days many false prophets shall arise many shall come in my Name that's why we have so many Christian denominations we have Apostolic Pentecostal, Pentecostal, baptists, Catholic, Lutheran, Mormons, presbyterian, evangelical, Jehovah wits, Islam, Jesus freaks, trinitarian, Oneness Apostolic, church of the dead dry bones , Paul said if we or an angel preach an other gospel than what we have preach unto you let be a curse Galatians 1 9 .Luke 24 47 in that repentence and Remission of sin should be preached among all nations in his name beginning at Jerusalem that what his disciples did they preached the true gospel Acts 2 38 and Oneness of God
If you see this comment, say a prayer for Pastor Mike. God bless him! He helps us so much.
I have seen your comment , and I am praying for Pastor Mike . God bless you Sherese
Thank you for the teachings on Mormonism here. I was a 40 year temple attending mormon who was able to find God's true grace. Keep up the good teaching.
I wish you could talk to my Mormon sister :( She was deceived 45 years ago ... I've prayed for her, then her 5 children and now her 23 grandchildren that ONE of them would speak the truth and lead her to the Jesus of the Bible, instead of the counterfeit Jesus of Mormonism. Each year, she defends it more intensely and with more fervor. Her husband is a member of the Quorum of Seventy. I ACHE knowing that she will spend eternity apart from Almighty God and all that is good!
Perhaps you could answer my question since you are no longer Mormon. How do you follow the Jesus of the Bible without the priesthood and baptism? Jesus was perfect and he still was baptized by John which had the priesthood to baptize. It’s pretty clear we all need to be baptized, but how if no church has the priesthood?
@@koltoncrane3099 The question is not what you should be asking. The question you should be asking" Do Mormons hold the Priesthood of Aaron and the Melchizedek order. The answer according to the Holy Bible is no
What did the Priest of Aaron do basically? they did animal sacrifices to God. What happen to the Temple when Jesus Christ died on the Cross. The temple veils were rent. Signifying that Jesus final sacrifice put an end to the Levitical or lower priesthood.
Basically you are practicing a false priesthood. As for Melchizedek only Jesus Christ holds that order. No one else. it can not be handed down. The power of Melchizedek can work miracles. No man has this power only Jesus Christ
Read Hebrews chapter 7 if you want to have your eyes open. There is no need for Prophets or Apostles running a church
Our Lord God is the last Prophet. There is the spirit of prophecy which is a gift. But any one claiming to be a Prophet is a False Prophet . second Peter 2
And when the Apostles finished their missions spreading and setting up Christ's gospel There was no need for Apostles after they perished
We are disciples of Christ and can give our life as a pastor, Elder , teacher etc.which are positions recognized as a body that is govern by the Grace of God
Read Hebrews 7 with prayer don't take my word for it
TCOJCOLDS DOES NOT HOLD ANY OF THE PRIESTHOODS THEY CLAIM TO HOLD
@@Robinfuckable I agree with you partially. Some people claim they hold the priesthood because they went to priest school and got it there. Read Acts 8:12 . It says that the man has the power of god which is the priesthood since Philip baptized them in the name of Jesus. You can't baptize someone if you don't have the authority. That's why John the Baptist baptized people because he had the aaronic priesthood. But those same people didn't receive the holy ghost because John the Baptist didn't have the Melchizedek priesthood. Act 8: 17 they conferred the holy ghost by the laying on of hands. Acts 8: 18-20. Simon tried to buy this power but was rebuked.
Matt. 16:13-19, Peter received the keys of the kingdom of heaven on the mount of transfiguration. He received the sealing power which Elijah had to seal the heavens. This we believe to be the key of sealing which you obtain once you have the higher priesthood.
Matt 10: 1-8 the apostles received power to cast out spirits and heal the afflicted. This clearly shows that the apostles had power. This power always though was the Melchizedek priesthood. Why do you think that the apostles never received this priesthood when they could cast out spirits, heal people, and confer on people the Holy Ghost?
@@Robinfuckable I read Hebrews 7. I've read it before and I don't see where it says we no longer need prophets. Without the authority no man can baptize in christs name. Even John the Baptist and the apostles needed the authority to baptize or give the gift of the holy ghost. The chapter mentions Jesus. When Jesus rent the temple curtain and died on the cross he ended the law of Moses so sacrifices were no longer needed, but instead a broken heart and contrite spirit. Perhaps you could pick out the verse that says theres no need for the priesthood? Because if the apostles had it and John the Baptist had it I kind of think we still need it for baptism and the Holy Ghost.
I look at the absolute toxicity of social media and youtube and often wished it would all vanish , but then there are channels and videos like this, which truly are amazing. I mean to think that even in 10, 20 years someone studying romans can go back and watch these videos is truly amazing and inspiring. You have helped me gain a greater grasp on soo much of the bible and I thank you for it brother.
There was definitely a very toxic vibe in the middle when ridicule of other faiths took off. Not very Christian to me, especially when people laugh and snicker in the audience. Not a true pastor, but definitely a “smarty pants” for sure.
@@Andy-wo9bm I’d say you calling his talking points on a false prophet ‘toxic’ because he tried to insert a bit of humour into his sermon is a lot more worrying.
@@MasterfulPeon if you didn't believe he was a prophet, you wouldn't be speaking ill of a dead man, now would you?
@@KingPoseidon02 that doesn’t make any sense. How does me calling him a false prophet imply in any way that I believe he is one? I call him a false prophet because he wasn’t a prophet, and has misled many people down a dangerous path. The bible warns us of false gospels and doctrines and how they lead people away from God.
@@MasterfulPeon do you even know what a prophet is? Or do you think like a gentile and believe a prophet foresees the future?

The word is truth, it’s good to read or try to understand different versions in reference to different practices or languages, I like hearing different opinions & understanding how it applied to your own personal life
What truths caused you to be set free, personally? I’d love to hear your journey. LDS is active on my college campus and I want to know how to share truth as much as I can in a way the Mormons would understand.

@@JosephLachh The entirety of Joseph Smith’s claims of new revelation is on a head on collision with the biblical truth.
Actually, all of the essential Christian doctrines have been changed in Mormonism: the nature of God, the person of Christ, the nature of man, salvation, etc.
I was raised LDS and nowadays record videos here on RUclips for the purpose of doing outreach to them.
From now on when anybody says other religions such as muslims can't be saved "Your ancestors were pagan" is now my permanent comeback. Beautiful

I had goosebumps when you talked about the conversion of Paul. Thank you so much about your teaching which talks to my heart and my mind.
I love how Mike is dedicated to TRUTH. John 14:6
Praise the Lord for this expository teaching in Romans. I have started an indepth study of Romans personally at home and the Lord lead me to this to accompany my study. Thank you for serving God as you do edifying the body of Christ that we many run this race with due diligence, keeping our eye on the mark of the call glorifying God our Father and Savior Jesus!!
It's 2024 and I've just discovered Mike. I love going thru the comments and seeing how many people are led out of Mormonism and into the truth with his teachings!! ❤
Mike, your indepth videos are a blessing to Christianity. Thank you so much 🥰.
Took lots of notes. Can't wait for this series to continue. Thanks again for sharing!

@@djmissgucciflipflops1089 Except that we believe that Jesus is the one true Christ and God. He is our Savior and Redeemer. If we are 100% wrong, then that must also be wrong. Just sayin.
Joe Broderick Yeah you’re not 100% wrong. I don’t know why Christianity thinks that people who believe differently are of the antichrist. If you believe Jesus is Lord and God raised him from the dead and that he came in the flesh you are a Christian. Theologically that’s what every Christian shares and that IS the foundation to be saved. Stemming from that point is where I would disagree with Mormonism.
@@carbon273 thank you. What exactly do you disagree with?
@@penguinman9837 hello sir, , My concern for the LDS among other things is that they worship Another Christ and Another Heavenly Father, ( Mormonism follows King Follett discourse gods that Joseph Smith taught). These are false and cannot save you. LDS gospel also is saved by obedience to laws and ordinances, after you are perfected then grace kicks in. This is not the true gospel of Jesus Christ. While Christian's believe in following the commandments, and that we will show good fruit if we are in Christ, it is the Work of Christ that Saves. Even our faith in Him is a grace we recieve from Him. All glory goes to Him.
We do not become gods . Blasphemy, idolotry.
Please reread Bible, and research further the history and doctrine of LDS from objective resources.

I’ve had so many my questions that I’ve held for so long answered in your videos. Thank you
Thank you for teaching the word of God with a love for God. Listening to the end of your teaching where your talking about how Paul saw Gods calling on his life as grace to be sharing the gospel. Paul wasnt arrogant. I heard a pastor say that since I was brought here to build this church you get to hear the gospel. It was like since I was called to be here to start this church, you guys wouldn't be here to hear the gospel. WHAT!!! Was I hearing this person right or what??? It made me sad. Yes, no matter what goes on in my life the most important thing is Gods glory, not my being healed or whatever. God gets ALL the GLORY. It belongs to Him. We dont or shouldn't be trying to share in Gods glory. It's all His. Thanks again.
Debbie Loy Well said!!
Thank you Mike winger for saying that about everybody has a chance to know Jesus no matter where they come from it only takes two things to qualify for you to be somebody deserving of Jesus a pulse and a soul and that is it
Mike, I really liked this video. A lot of times when I read Paul's letters I tend to hurry through his introductions to get to the good stuff. You are pulling so much good stuff out of his introduction I guess I should slow down and pay more attention to them. Somewhere around min. 44 you are talking about "the faith" several churches use the Nicene Creed (Catholic, Lutheran, Presbyterian etc...) as a statement of faith of course in the Protestant churches the term catholic church is spelled with a lower case C and just means the universal body of believers in Christ. I was just wondering if you agreed with the Nicene creed as a general statement of the faith? Or do you find anything biblically problematic with it?
Thanks Kevin.

@Mike Winger What Bible version do you use during the Biblical Series and your Friday lectures/discussions?
For Romans study he was using the NKJV but he mentions NLT in a video called The Best Bible Version May Depend on Your Education Level. Then he adds a couple more if you are a higher reader.
The King James Bible is considered a 7th grade read. It seems a bit tongue twisting when you first start out but quickly becomes second nature.

I was once heavily indoctrinated into Mormonism in the early 1980's ~ 2000's and can tell you the many things I was taught regarding the deeper theology they were teaching.
What I see, even to this day, are many different answers from Mormons and they confuse their own speech, their own understanding, but are quick to fall back on "pray about the Book of Mormon until you get the right answer" which is what I was told by Mormon leaders back in those times.
They kept referencing these "feelings" and you have to help Mormons understand their own theology first, by oftentimes showing them their own beliefs that are listed on their Mormon website, as many refute much of the deeper theologies they teach until you show them.
I pray for all Mormons that more will have their eyes opened to the truth of the correct Christ, the correct God, of the Bible.
I am a return missionary from the Mormon Church. I had my name removed from the Mormon Church in 1996. I am born again now, but the Mormon cult stole much of my life and put me on a long path of wrestling with God until I finally surrendered. Praise Yeshua Hamashiach, my LORD and Saviour.

Does anyone know what translation he is using?
He mentioned the NKJV.
Interesting theory on how Paul recognized the gospel in the Old Testament. I often wonder how he just suddenly knew how the Old Testament has always proclaimed Jesus after he was confronted by Jesus.
Paul was initially named Saul and was born in the city of Tarsus in modern-day Turkey. He was raised in the Pharisee sect of Judaism, a sect known for its strict adherence to Old Testament laws.
Saul went on to become an expert in Jewish law and historians believe that he was a member of the Sanhedrin, the Jewish high court who was most infamously known for turning Jesus over to the Roman authorities to be tried and crucified.
In his religious extremism, Saul displayed no compassion for any Jew believed to be violating the Jewish laws. For example, Scripture tells us that Saul witnessed and consented to the stoning of Stephen, the first Christian martyr (Acts 7:58; 8:1).
After Stephen was killed, Saul was part of “a great persecution” of the early Christian church, imprisoning and beating Christian men and women in an attempt to stamp out Christianity (Acts 8:1,3).
Ironically, Saul’s attempt to smother Christianity actually had the effect of fanning its flames beyond the city of Jerusalem. More specifically, the exiled Christians did not go into hiding but became missionaries who spread the Good News of Jesus Christ wherever they went (Acts 8:4).
Outraged by the spread of Christianity beyond Jerusalem’s walls, Saul left Jerusalem to hunt down and imprison the Christians who were preaching in Damascus (Acts 9:1-2).
It was on the road to Damascus that Saul literally saw the light and heard the voice of Jesus asking Saul for the account of his role in the persecution of Christians (Acts 9:3-6). Saul would go on to repent and go from being a zealous persecutor of Christians to a zealous evangelist of Christianity (Acts 9:18-20).
Saul preached so extensively throughout the Roman Empire that he eventually adopted the Roman version of his name, Paul.
During these missionary journeys, Paul wrote letters to the churches he founded in Asia Minor and Europe.
In these letters, Paul further educated the new Christian communities about Jesus’ teachings and how they should live as brothers and sisters in Christ.

You know it is truly remarkable when someone compares Jesus to someone who claims to be a prophet. Especially with how many Bible verses teach not to pass judgment on another.
If you are referring to Matthew 7:1, keep reading, because later in that same chapter, Jesus tells His listeners to exercise judgment of false teachers, by checking their fruits (Mat.7:15-20)
I don’t know of any other scriptures that tell us not to judge others, but plenty that command us to judge righteous judgment, and to compare the teachings of men to the scriptures.
There is no biblical blanket ban on judging whether or not a person is preaching and teaching the Truth of the scriptures.
@@BigAl53750 yes that is one of them. And I do agree that is why I am saying Mike Winger is a false teacher. If he would not compare one who has claimed to be a prophet with God, then I could sit there and listen. Instead, Mike is a false teacher who knows only how to find scriptures but is ignorant towards their richer meaning.

Okay verse 2 😅
God being glorified
This title perfectly explains why I left the LDS church to be Christian. The greatest rebuttals to Joseph Smith's doctrines come from Jesus Himself
The Mormons Theology:
He said, “For we know that it is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do” (2 Nephi 25:23).
The Word of GOD
Romans 11:6 "And if by grace, then it is no longer of works; otherwise grace is no longer grace. But if it is of works, it is no longer grace; otherwise work is no longer work.
What about James 2:17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.
19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
Joseph Smith sadly went against Galatians 1:6-9 & Revelation 22:18-19
"Strike one" is a failure. "One symbol that means dog can not mean more in translation". Except that constantly exists in language even when not crossing the boundary of translation, which is even more complex with context of individual cultures.
For example: Bat
To explain that word entirely is to explain an animal, a sport, a motion, a gunfighter, and a few other things including complex metaphor.
This is something even a 5 year old understands.

A weird contradiction is that while Mormons rely so much on their feelings, they also don’t care at all about what is going on in the heart, purity, motivations, love of God, lust, etc. it’s all on the very surface. Just trust the leaders. Isn’t that relying totally on the arm of the flesh? And aren’t we cursed for doing that?
Feelings vs. Jeremiah 17:9. I think I'll go with the Word of God on this one!
I don't know about the Greek, or Hellenistic, practices during Roman times, but "bondservant" doesn't mean "slave." it's someone who works for another, or who is part of household, whose only pay is food, clothing, shelter and, in dangerous societies, protection, and maybe pocket money. but need not just be a domestic servant: it might be a tutor for the master's or household's children, or a former solder to protect the home and family, a man to keep household accounts, a chief steward.

"Smith"? I thought it was "Rosenburg".
So this is a bit dated,
but I was following along and noticed the quotation from Isaiah 29:20-22,
What the Joseph Smith version is fabricating sounds like a weak paraphrase from earlier in Isaiah 29:11-12
"And the vision of all this has become to you like words of a book that is sealed. When men give it to one who can read, saying, "Read this," he says, "I cannot, for it is sealed." And when they give the book to one who cannot read, saying, "Read this," he says, "I cannot read."
In the actual bible, those verses are pointing out a negative aspect that people had turned away from the Lord and are now staggering and confused and all kinds of messed up from their rejection of the Lord.
Ironically not the best verses to be cherry picking from.
I'm assuming that quote from Horton and his book of who, using Isaiah 29 was just them not knowing the bible, because they obviously don't read it, but just wanted to point that out from the whole chapter context.
Me too Adam
Mike spreads an error here. At 42:08 to 45:30 Mike helps spread -perhaps inadvertently, the old false teaching idea that Paul was the first to preach to the Gentiles and that Jews were reluctant to accept this unless they first became Jews. Mike then says, "But Paul's like declaring it. It's ALL nations."
This is not the case. Peter preached to and baptized Gentiles at the house of Cornelius in Haifa. Then when he returned to Jerusalem to answer criticism of Apostles and believers there, he described what happened and Acts 11 :18 says of his church critics,
When they heard this, they had no further objections and praised God, saying, “So then, even to Gentiles God has granted repentance that leads to life.”
Then the VERY NEXT LINES say:
Now those who had been scattered by the persecution that broke out when Stephen was killed traveled as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus and Antioch, spreading the word only among Jews. Some of them, however, men from Cyprus and Cyrene, went to Antioch and began to speak to Greeks also, telling them the good news about the Lord Jesus. The Lord’s hand was with them, and a great number of people believed and turned to the Lord. News of this reached the church in Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas to Antioch. When he arrived and saw what the grace of God had done, he was glad and encouraged them all to remain true to the Lord with all their hearts. Acts 11:19-23
All this was before Paul had preached to a single Gentile. In fact it then says in the next verses that Barnabas went to Tarsus to look for Paul and brought him back up to Antioch and exposed him to it there. This took many days of travel there and back on foot. So if anyone tells you like Mike did that the Jews were reluctant to accept Gentiles being saved but Paul wins them over , or declares otherwise to convince them, ....no. They were convinced by Peter and Barnabas and the other un-named men that it was right to accept Gentiles even before Paul first preached to them.
A servant serves for wages. A slave is owned. We are not Christ's servants. We are His slaves.
That's why Jesus said "No one can serve two masters." We are owned by one. We have either one master, or another. Not two opposing masters.
I am more towards the theory that the apostle Paul had a wife that got killed because of his faith and she became a Christian also.
Where did that idea come from?
@@RUT812 it is a theory that some people have because some people say there is evidence that the Apostle Paul was going to join the Sanhedrin before his conversion and to join the Sanhedrin a man was required to be married. But the Bible nowhere says that it is just a theory the Bible doesn't even say he was married or trying to join the Sanhedrin before his conversion.
Was it me of did you go off subject?
paul wore his life out correcting what the saints were doing, they didn't have modern resources
Please dont refer to him as a prophet. Joe Smith was nothing more than some guy with some wierd hangups.
Perhaps it's due to a simple misunderstanding; "prophet" and "profit" sound alike...
@@thecontender4487 yah, you're right
Joseph Smith was a convicted con artist before he ever wrote the Book of Mormon... You'd think that would also clue people in... Not to mention all the warnings in the Bible about false prophets and false teachers and the Bible's teachings on how to identify a false prophet.
@@skeptical6307 I know! I dont know how anyone could follow such an odd path. Crazy really.
@@joeb2588 my friends are actually quite sane lol. They are brainwashed by the LDS organization to believe that the Bible has errors. They also urgue that other prophets, such as Jonah, and other teachers, such as Matthew, weren't perfect and God used them for his purposes. What they completely miss is that yes, Jonah wasn't perfect... He tried to run from what God wanted him to do, however, after doing as God instructed his prophesy came true. Some of Joseph Smith's prophesies did not, therefore, according to the Bible he was a false prophet and all his prophesies should be ignored. Matthew, yes, wasn't perfect. He was a tax collector which meant he was likely a bit of a thief, charging people more than he should, but once he was following Jesus, he changed and put the teachings of Jesus and following Jesus first. Joseph Smith had numerous wives... The LDS will say many people had many wives in the Bible. However, just because they had many wives didn't mean God approved. Also, once a person becomes a Christian, their heart is changed and they strive to do what is right. They aren't perfect but they try to be. I forget how many wives Smith had and I don't care enough to look it up lol... But if he was a Christian, he only would have had one. He wouldn't have been perfect, he would have slipped up now and then because he was human, but having numerous wives isn't a slip up. It's not the same as telling a lie in the heat of the moment and then recognizing though the work of the Holy spirit that you were wrong, asking for forgiveness because you slipped up, and striving to do better next time. It's a conscious and blatant rebellion against God. I don't understand how they don't see that. But the Bible says Satan will prevent some non-believers from seeing the truth.

Why would you compare anyone to Christ?
Joseph Smith once compared himself to Christ. Here is a quote of Joseph Smith from the LDS document “History of the Church” vol. 6, page 408-409
“I have more to boast of than ever any man had. I am the only man that has ever been able to keep a whole church together since the days of Adam. A large majority of the whole have stood by me. Neither Paul, John, Peter, nor Jesus ever did it. I boast that no man ever did such a work as I. The followers of Jesus ran away from Him; but the Latter-day Saints never ran away from me yet.”
@@MikeWinger
I wouldn't call that comparing himself to Christ. Maybe he just knew he fulfilled prophesy.
John 14:12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
@@nativebutnotofthisworld9792
That's mocking. He put himself about Jesus christ. God bless you....
"Why would you compare anyone to Christ?" Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father in Heaven is perfect. There's a comparison.
Mike I have some questions for you. Do you think that Peter was greater than Christ or do you think Peter was a witness of the resurrected Christ? Do you think that Moses is greater than Christ? If the answer is no, then why do you elevate Joseph Smith to the level of Christ when Joseph Smith said, "My mission is to testify of Christ." It sounds like to me you believe Joseph Smith is a god, when I know he was a man of God. Whether we agree with him or not, we should never ever elevate a person to the level of Christ, even to make videos for profit.
1. There are no ads on any of Mike's videos, neither does he take sponsorships. The accusation that he's in it for the money is slander and you should be ashamed of yourself.
2. Mike isn't elevating Joseph Smith. Mike is exposing that self-worshiping narcissist for the false prophet that he is. Joseph Smith called himself better than Jesus.
"I am the only man that has ever been able to keep a whole church together since the days of Adam. A large majority of the whole have stood by me. Neither Paul, John, Peter, nor Jesus ever did it. I boast that no man ever did such a work as I. The followers of Jesus ran away from Him; but the Latter-day Saints never ran away from me yet..."
Did you catch that? He said he had to boast about than Jesus himself.
@@UrsahSolar Mike like yourself are filled with the spirit of the devil.
@@UrsahSolar if you have no ads that means he has a strike on him for hate speech.
@@KingPoseidon02 Actually, you can CHOOSE not to have ads on your channel. I choose not to have ads on mine because YouTubing is a hobby for me. I've been a fan of Mike Winger for years and he's never had ads, nor has he ever hate-speeched ANYONE. What you are doing is slander and that is a horrific sin. You would rather focus on Pastor Winger's imaginary sin of hate-speech than acknowledge Joseph Smith's real live blasphemy against Jesus.
@@UrsahSolar no the ones doing the slandering are you and your false teacher, Mike Winegar. Can Mike Winegar draw his Priesthood Authority back to any apostle or to more directly, Peter, James, and John? If the answer is no, then your false prophet, never had the Spirit to begin with.

I use Logos and took notes. Lost me when you started talking Mormon. I am going to do a video a night. Every time I start a Roman study I never actually finish. LOL I am going to this time.
I am almost always asked, "What about those that have not heard the gospel or did not have contact with the Israelites before Jesus?"
I have always had trouble with this question, can someone help?
+Theophilus - Sadly, Any answer you're likely to get will undoubtedly be a non-answer. Usually they will say that they really don't know and that God is a fair judge. The reality is that this sort of theological question is rife with philosophical conundrums that Christian pastors are not willing to unfold and discuss to their logical conclusions.
Joshua Daniel So what do you think?
I've already done some reasearch and Im coming close to a logical conclusion, but would still like to hear your thoughts.
Sure, Theophilus, I have some thoughts on the matter. One of the most streamlined Christian responses come from the Reform camp. For Calvinists this is not nearly as much of a problem as it is for Arminian leaning Believers...Although the problems are just deeper down. As you may know, Reform Doctrine hangs heavily on Predestination. So for them God chooses who He decides to save. God's perfect will cannot be thwarted. So for them, They could answer it this way. Your salvation isn't based on any effort or work that you do (lest you have opportunity to boast). God chose all of the elect from before the beginning of time. The hearing or not hearing of the Gospel then has nothing to do with it...in a sense. God may choose to save all who never heard or none. It is completely up to Him. The Arminian may counter with an argument of how that is fundamentally unfair because it suggests that in not choosing others God specifically created them for the fire. He is God, isn't He? Logically speaking ... If man has no part in His own salvation then why wouldn't God save everyone. But ultimately one can scale back both positions to God and His foreknowledge at some point. He is ultimately culpable under both systems.
As a one time believer, I, too, used to wrestle with this question (and much more in depth) until I realized perhaps I was asking the wrong question.
- Josh
One time believer?
In any case, though I think it is not unjust for God to condem people who have not heard his message (since we are afterall sinners, and deserved to die in the first place(Ephisians 2:1-9)), given that the Bible says God is all-loving, all-powerful, and all-just, this leads us to the conclucion that everyone in some way, shape or form has had the chance to repent and live, before and after Jesus. Afterall we have verses that tell us that God's desire is for all men to come to repentence (1 Timothy 2:4; 2 Peter 3:9).
Well... instead of writing a lot here I'll just give you the website.
