I was in SPB in June for a week, living in an Airbnb near Sadovaya Square. We had rode bus, tram, subway. Very clean, convenient, beautiful city, nice people. Love Russia!

As you walk closer you can see that they are brick. I was just looking at some from a distance, and thinking how much they resembled our older sandstone buildings in Brisbane, Australia
There is an app to report graffiti, littering, dead trees, potholes etc. They react very rapidly. There are practically no graffiti in Saint Petersburg and Moscow. To be fair not all Russian cities are like this. It depends on attitude of the city government.

The downside of it - there are too many 18th, 19th and early 20th century buildings in SP which require serious and very expensive restoration.

The granite sidewalks are at least a foot and a half thick. Those sidewalks are not going anywhere soon! And the park is quite tiny. To rebuild a historic city like St. Petersburg will require the largest checkbook imaginable.
