    Great city for walking. Loved my visit in 2007. On a tour bus with mostly Russians (all people I did not know), I left a bag full of souvenirs I had purchased. I returned to the ticket window the next day and my stuff was there. I really appreciated the kindness of whoever helped. I am from the USA. Spaseba.

    Wide boulevards with abundant classical architecture...beautiful (of course). It's Russia from the past. The condition of the sidewalks and roadways is certainly much better than in the major cities near my home in the eastern U.S. It does seem that people tend to move somewhat chaotically rather than keeping to the right as they walk. Some of the signage appeared to be in English. I suppose that this is for the benefit of tourists. Thank you for making and posting the video.

    One thing I've noticed about big Russian cities on not only this channel but on others like Real Russia is that they are very safe to be in. Even if you are an American which this channel has had interviews with an American teacher who's lived in Russia for eight years.
    New York on the other hand. I saw a man get stabbed with a knife in broad daylight. and a car pull up behind a NYC taxi then the driver got out with a pistol in his hand and began shooting at someone standing on the sidewalk. As soon as he started shooting I took off in the other direction.

      Like 20 years ago Saint Petersburg was dangerous a place. But eventually all the riffraffs took care of each other and the things got back to normal. Now there are practically zero violent crimes. For about 10 years I never heard anything crime related from the people that I knew personally.

    I’ve said this a thousand times, and will keep saying it over and over again, Petrograd is the imperial capital of Europe. No wonder it was the seat of the wealthiest monarchy at the time. Imagine many of those beautiful buildings were actually manors and mansions owned by a single family. The wealth families like the Yusupovs had, was nothing short of mind-boggling.

    • @ivanbg9694
      @ivanbg9694 4 года назад

      By your foolish logic the whole empire belonged to one family?

    • @elenaherwagen3529
      @elenaherwagen3529 4 года назад

      Ivan BG Pretty much, yes. The Romanovs' wealth was like no other family that has lived since, with a net worth in today's terms of 250-300 billion dollars - making Tsar Nicholas richer than the top twenty Russian billionaires of the 21st century combined.

    • @khalidalali186
      @khalidalali186 4 года назад +3

      Exactly! And then again, I only mentioned the monarchy being the Romanovs of course, and the Yuspovs being one of the most well-known. Even if we were to take such wealthy aristocratic families away from the scale. One would still abide by your calculation of the net worth of Tsar Nicholas II alone, and it would still be double that of Jeff Bezos.

    • @khalidalali186
      @khalidalali186 4 года назад

      wow thanks for letting me know, awfully kind of you sir. That’s a very interesting piece of information that I never read in any book before. But if I may? How would you know if one used to be a residential manor belonging to a wealthy merchant or a affluent land-owning aristocrat? And those that were merely “Revenue Houses?” And do forgive my curiosity sir, but how much would one entire building in Nevsky prospect cost today?

      Old buildings requiring renovation ? Yes. Ruins like in Detroit? Hardly. You want to check Bronx, NY on google maps? Or maybe Glasgow? You will be pleasantly surprised. But not many people will go on the related videos and start trashing the entire country, like you do.
