Hi David, thanks for putting all these videos together. Super helpful! I finally got the novi nut off and was wondering how you disconnected the wire from the back going into the magnito? Just looking to pull the engine off to give it a good cleaning. Same exact model of the one you have. Thanks!!
Hey David, I just got one motabecame just like the one in this video and am starting the rebuild process, what is the size of the wrench to remove the spark plug
The magneto cover on my moby seems to be stuck on a bit cockeyed and won't come off freely anymore. I've tried a hose clamp and some rubber footed ratchet clamps to see if squeezing it a bit might work it loose but it just won't budge. Is there any way to recover it without sawing through the damn thing?
Did you have any trouble with your stock grounding/bonding strap? I'm dinking around with my 50v now and having heck getting spark. Saint rebel moby suggested a new grounding strap. Just wondered what your experience has been with that particular piece.
Hello David! great stuff! I recently started repairing exactly the same model. regarding ignition, when i tried the same trick to pedal and see if there is a spark, I only got the sparks at the point where the ground connects to the frame (under the main frame between the steering and the seat. the wire to the spark is broken and there is no way to connect it back to that sealed box ( i dunno what it does and impossible to open). Does this mean I have to replace that whole box and wire to the spark + the spark plug itself?
What is the right lever do i have a mo torbacane and can find out what the right lever on the handle bars does i need a replacement cable if it going to work.
i just got a motobecane and theres no spark.but im not sure what it is because ive tried the coil and grounding. also im going to try to open the magneto to see if anything is wrong in there.but was there any attachments on your breaker bar before you took it out?
I'm getting a couple Moby 50s. I'm gonna grab a few carb rebuild kits, what else would you recommend I pick up to get my order to free shipping $ l, as a sort a matter of course getting these back up to snuff? I'm keeping em at stock performance putt-putt level to keep costs down.
The Le Partie CDI kit from treats is truly excellent. But if you are just doing a quick refresh, then a carb kit will probably do it. Also, check the cables and tires. And if you are feeling really frisky, then I'd go with new gaskets, seals, and bearings. Good luck!
okay, I've got a question if you have a minute- I have a 1979 motobecane 50v motor that has no spark. I've replaced the coil, and the plug is good. a few weeks ago, it had spark, but it was weak. came back yesterday, and spark was gone in spite of the new coil. howeer, when I turn the motor over and hold the wire from the magneto up against the motor a very very weak spark will jump from the end of the wire to the engine. would you have any idea what's up with it? I'm at my wits end.
@DFS how right you are dave. I tested the condenser last night. stupid thing's had it. cleaned the points twice already, haha. thanks for the input! watching your videos inspired me to upload my own moped's restoration videos to youtube.
Hi David, I have almost the exact same motobecane moped as you. Mine runs and starts fine, but once it runs at operating temp, it bogs out on me. It almost seems to not be getting spark when its hot. Any suggestions?
I also use the special french zip ties. They are Soooo good 😊
They can be zipped together for length 😉
just got a 1979 motobecane 50v engine to go on my 1958 motobecane moped. got no spark. this episode was helpful. (not to mention funny)
Thanks!
Yes, I'm back my friend! Sweet video and thanks a million for being there🚴♂️ 👍☺
Shoenice fixes mopeds now? I'm glad he got his life on track!

This was very real thanks :)

Clean the points. Replace the condenser. Chasing electrical gremlins is the most frustrating thing about these bikes.

If you have the original points in there, it sounds like your condenser is going bad. Common issue. You can buy one on treatland.tv for cheap.
Hey I have the same bike and wondered where you got information on the bike from. If you could help out that would be appreciated. Thank you.
Google Myron's mopeds. They have all kinds of good info about all different kinds of mopeds.
i cant get the novi nut off mine , i have hit it with multiple rounds of fire + oil and it wont budge.
I feel you man. That thing is a bastard!
@@DavidFixesHisShit any other tricks you may suggest? im going to try the hose clamp and breaker par with hammer trick next , saw it on a moped forum.
Wait.... You're not Shoenice?
Not sure... I might be.
What size socket?
Have the same thing
Dude.. that's not a restoration 😆 you didn't even take anything off .. I need to know where the other 2 wires go on the points. ??
Watch later on in the series and there are additional episodes about the ignition system, although I replaced the stock stator with CDI...
