Your Welcome. I Trained Aikido for more than 10 years and the most important thing about it was to enjoy the training and the learning. Got friends that trained many other Martial styles and stayed with it for long time - they got good at it :). So to really accomplish something with Martial Arts you have to like go to that training again and again. In the end you most difficult opponent is your own self. So choose a good place, a trainer which style you like and stay with it to learn the roots.
I used to train in Aikido. I love it. Aikido was invented for combat against gun, knife and sword in the war in close range. During practice, the hand of attacker simulates weapon. So the Aikido technique is to avoid the incoming and control the opponent as fast and simple as possible. It is simple and very effective.
i trained multiple martial arts for about 12 years (on and off) in total, from karate to judo, to jiu jitsu to the south-east-asian martial arts and than i paused. now i am searching something that help me defend on urban terrain as a civilian aswell a a upcoming law enforcement agent. so i am curious which one to choose ;D. i allways liked the tradition involved in styles like aikido or shotokan karate but i also like the effectiveness of modern military style combat arts...
Depends on the situation. If you are in an place, let´s say traveling in some remote region where the Sherifs brother got drunk and you now have to defend against him without upsetting the locals Aikido will come in pretty handy. If you are in a real hostile environment Krav Maga is more versatile. But it always depends on the person and the situation, not so much the martial style. If you want to train try both and choose the place where you like the trainer the most. It will keep you training.
Ok so I see that this teacher has some really painful jointlocks and a lot of circular movement but I don't know if I would go touting this as REAL aikido.

why choose such a stiff uke? i hope it's not to make his techniques more painful than it really is.. and I thought aikido wasn't supposed to be too painful? I've never seen O Sensei make anyone tap that much in any video
Aikido is joint manipulation.. It can break bones ffs.. If you can't follow the energy flow, it hurts a-fucking-lot! This is... I don't even know wtf this Real Aikido stuff is meant to be... O.o I think it's a combat form of the already available Jiu-Jistu. It's only "less" painful against a trained uke.. Otherwise.. Um?.. What're you expecting? I think the "point" of this video.. Is to show an "aggressive" use. Which isn't Aikido at all.

It is 10th Dan Soke,it is for real Aikido not for mainstream in Japan he is 9th Dan :)
