    Now this is what I call a true history orientated railroad. Those Alcos have some of the best sounding engines in the world and the 2045 being my particular favorite of all the four axle locomotives for having a very noticeable turbo. I hope DL will continue to keep these engines for to come.

    The wooden box is the remains of a signal box where relays and such for the signal system were. It had wooden doors. The parts on the ground were for air pipes going to the switches. Back in the day they were air operated from the tower. All common Lackawanna stuff. Very cool!!!

    Great video AC! I never knew about that little park in Scranton. As for 24:24 those posts held up a utility box, I'm *guessing* for the telegraph/signal system. There's one in Clarks Summit that still had the wooden utility box, and another along the Scranton Expressway part of the line. Neither are accessable without considerable bushwhacking.
    I should also add I really this style of video where you mix in some on-foot "exploring" of old relics from the past.

    AC, as I recall, this is one of your finest and most diverse videos I have seen. So much ''stuff'' to see. I remember going to YMCA camp in the Poconos in 1965. I had two weeks of fun, camping, canoeing on the Lehigh, Swimming in the Lehigh and watching passenger trains race by. Great memories. Thanks!

    The box you were referencing in [Time Stamp] 20.30 [approx.] looks like an old relay cabinet. I ran across one similar on one of the old, abandoned [now probably torn out] DL & W RR; I was told in housed relays. PS: The information, and the pictures is IMHO a very good thing! Keep it up PLEASE. Thank You.

    That old wooden structure was a signal relay case hence the wires. It had the same use as the modern metal bungalows.

    Those old boxes were also along the E L tracks going to Binghamton. I grew up seeing them. I'm guessing junction boxes for power for the signals back then. They also had a phone box on the side, especially up at the old Glenwood switch. Some are still up and still in good shape.

    Nice video AC. Those ex Canadian locos sure know how to smoke it up. Scranton still has a lot of neat action. Also I noticed that most of the old Soo and CP Rail covered hoppers were now off roster with new reporting marks. Shame. I like those ol CP Rail Multimarks.

    I think what you were seeing that had the severed wires into the wooden box and then it had all these concrete stanchions every with little whip Stitch I think I had something to do with electrifying that rail line up there maybe it was electrified one point in time very interesting railroad artifacts peace out have a great day

    Great old ALCO video. They must have an interesting firing order to sound as they do. Those were working...:) Defiantly past the test of time...so they all can be controlled by the one engineer? Switching with four ALCO's...that's cool. Another video that will get a few repeat views..:)

    Now steam town is on my bucket list it looks interesting and cool. I see someone else commented that it was signal controls. I have seen similar very old post/flag signals with mechanical linkages travelling down to old (I mean ancient 1970s kid here) home signals from local stations. This was in the day when we still ran a tablet system of control lol

    that u33c 3007 now in delaware - lackawanna was built brand new for lmx in erie pa & was a milestone unit for ge as they even had HO models built to commemorate it by Athearn. i have 1 of them and i think it was the 10,000 unit produced at the erie plant for ge.

    • @Trains21
      @Trains21  5 лет назад

      #3007 is not built by GE.. It's a Canadian built MLW M630.

    • @jameshill2308

      @@Trains21 thanks, i looked up the d-l roster after i posted the comment and saw that it was indeed a MLW 636.. so similar in appearance at the front of the unit. i have that athearn unit on my layout and the paint scheme matched. i jumped to a conclusion. great video's by the way, i have watched alot of them and wonder if your favorite filming location is close to taylor yard's north end?

    • @Trains21
      @Trains21  5 лет назад

    I enjoy watching trains on U-tube but IRL not so much. A little train story: There's a spur line that runs from Lancaster PA to Blue Ball. By dumb luck I seem to catch a train at the local industrial area crossing quite often. The train will move forward and stop, not quite clearing the crossing (of course). Then it'll reverse and stop, again just short of clearing the crossing. This forward, reverse thing will happen 2-3X yet as far as I can see no cars are picked up or dropped on the siding. This is what I notice at most train "action" I see...nothing they do seems to make any sense...like they are just killing time and getting their jollies tying up traffic at crossings.

    • @Trains21
      @Trains21  5 лет назад

      Wow, that's something.. I wish I could see that "operation" myself.. As a railfan, of course, not as a motorist! Thanks for sharing.

    I'm new watching rails and inn wondering when they're building a train in the yards who connects the cars to the train when they back up, then go forward, then back up; is it the yard personnel or the conductor? Seems like if it was the conductor he'd have a heck of a hike back to the engine when done.

    • @Trains21
      @Trains21  4 года назад

      It is the conductor some of the time.. Sometimes it's other rail personnel.

    Nice video! What is the "one car rule"? What is the "hand rail" that you were examining for? Is Steamtown doing any excursions to Moscow this year?

    • @Trains21
      @Trains21  4 года назад +1

      The one car rule is that no matter where you are or the time a car will get into your shot.. It wasn't a handrail, I was mistaking.. Probably, but I don't follow their schedule.
