This is my 2nd Keurig coffee maker of this model. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxBrV-RbF5Nk0Rlt9i15aao-YMzqzTG8Vf The first worked fine for more than 2 years, and I could still get a decent cup of coffee out of it if I fiddled with it when I decided to replace it. The problem I had with my first unit was this: When attempting to brew a cup of coffee, the unit would either keep brewing until the coffee was undrinkable or it would not run long enough and the coffee produced was way too strong. I cleaned the unit as best I could but it did not help. So in the end it was just too much trouble to get a good cup of coffee out of it, so I decided to replace it with a new one, which has been working great since I unpacked it.

i have the My K-cup. a friend gave me a tip for stronger coffee. take a used k-cup. remove the top and the paper liner. trim the lip around the top with a scissors. put the used k-cup in the holder. put the filter inside the k-cup. fill filter. screw on top and brew. it has saved me a lot of money.

  • @christy76840

And they also now make these tiny paper filters. Let me say that I love coffee so much that I will take one of those tiny filters and fit it into one of those solo cups and stop the grounds from getting into my coffee. works great too.

I've been using a first generation Ekobrew for years and love it! Mine is the old plastic kind and it's held up like a champ. It makes a stronger cup of coffee, I can choose whatever coffee I like, less waste and more savings! When I one day need to replace my current Ekobrew, I'll look into the stainless steel model. Thanks for the review!

I never really started using K-cups until last month, when I got a new job. They have a K45 Elite Brewing Keurig :D I make one cup a day, and a box of K-cups is not cheap!
After watching this video, I think I'd get the Ekobrew Stainless Steel Elite, or the Solofill, if paper filters that could go inside of it were sold separately.

Many folks seem to think a coarse grind provides bold coffee but in my experiences you need a very fine ground in these re-useable cups because it creates a slower water flow ensuring you get a nice bold coffee. your thoughts?

I have been making my own coffee in the Keurig for years because I don't like the aftertaste of the coffee in the K-Cups and the coffee is usually too strong for me. I have several different of reusable filters. I also buy the paper filter inserts (which are a lifesaver for cleanup, especially if you buy the ones that have the paper tops, I buy them at Bed Bath & Beyond) to use inside the K-cups. This for me is the best way to make my coffee. I do it at home and at work.

Before I did a little research, I impulse-bought a gray unit, and regret it. I also picked up some plastic lids that cover the original K-Cup in order to reuse those. Problem is, they are only reusable three or four times. The Solo is the way to go!

What's your opinion of the Ekobrew plastic cup versus the Ekobrew stainless steel cup? I have a couple plastic ones and have been somewhat satisfied (still can't seem to brew a perfectly strong cup, but it's okay). I've heard that the stainless steel cup brews better, but I'd like to know this for sure before spending $25+. Your opinion (and anyone else that may read this) would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Excellent review from the young dude! As at January 2019, refillable K-Cup capsules are a lot less expensive now via Amazon/Ebay etc. than quoted back in 2013. I have a stainless steel refillable K-Cup ($6.00/£5.00) that works fine. It will probably last for many years so very good value compared to ready-filled ones.

    Keurig K75 & Ekobrew Elite
Great reviews! I purchased 2 Ekobrew Elite cups and notice that the clamshell lever doesn't completely shut when they are installed. The coffee brews but seems weak due to lack of steam pressure. In your video and as well as others I noticed that your Keurig doesn't fully close either. I wrote to Ekobrew twice regarding this incompatibility bit never received a response. I tried these cups on another K75 unit with the same results.

Ever test different grinds of same coffee using the same reusable K Cup filter? May want to add to this test, comparison of post brew wet weights. Wonder if the standard K Cup wet weight is higher since only one small hole for the brewed coffee to drain from.

We'll do separate video for this. But here's tips. First you will need fresh coffee (preferably from coffee shop not store). Chose darker roasts. Use regular "Drip" grind first. Than try to make it coarser or finer. Enjoy your cup, Aromacup.com.

I can't believe I'm doing this. :( But I realized I've spend near $100 in k-cups within 3 months and I'm the only one drinking a cup of coffee per day. Almost $400 within a year - that's not acceptable anymore. A tub of Maxwell would last me about 2 months for about $6, if on sale. Major difference. I think the extra cleaning labor is acceptable. I would recommend any self-made k-cups but My K-Cup.

Great video...thank you! If you could do a video on the reusable single serves - brew the coffee and strain them through cheese cloth to see what's left (grinds in your coffee - how much or little). I use the Keurig My k-Cup (because it came w/my Keurig maker) from time to time, but it drops grinds in my coffee too frequently (doesn't bother me, but some people hate that).

      Hi Ugzz,
I experienced the exact same issue with reusable filters. The coffee almost instantly turned clear, creating watery awful coffee.
The solution is NOT to use fine grind but to use espresso grind coffee. Espresso grind is much finer, almost powdery.
The stream starts dark and stays dark.

Brew-Your-Own option is the way to go and by far the cheaper option in the long run using the Ekobrew or Solofill cups! Don't buy the Keurig K-cups, the coffee is weak in my opinion. My only complaint is with the Keurig Machine itself, Keurig needs to increase the Temperature it heats the coffee to... on average, Keurig heats its coffee to around 160 degrees... That needs to be increased to at least 180-200 degrees for the perfect cup of coffee.

Nice review but you didn't show if any coffee grinds came thru! I've used the Solofill and the Ekobrew versions and I much prefer the Ekobrew. Very few grinds make it thru the filter mesh of the Ekobrew and the hinge is sturdy. The Solofill allows too many grinds thru and I'm not sure how long it'll take before the hinge breaks IMHO

Yes it will. I get the strongest and most flavourful cup using the 6 ounce setting.
I wish I'd bought a model that had the strong button which slows down the brewing to get stronger coffee for the larger sizes. it probably would help with the reusable filters.

Hopefully you can help me out with an issue I'm having. I bought the donut shop coffee from Sams Club and is the Members Mark brand. I get very inconsistent cups of coffee, with a lot of coffee grounds in my coffee. My brewer will also just stall, acting like it's brewing while nothing is coming out, It will do this for a few minutes. When I remove the K cup, the cup is water logged and the brew basket is also littered with coffee grounds. I've taken some of the cups apart and don't see anything out of place. Any hints on why this is happening with these cups?

For all those people freaking out about the water passing through the plastic of this filter, have you ever opened up a coffee maker and looked at the plastic water lines, rubber gaskets and every other non-metal part that your water comes in contact with? Maybe they make coffee makers with all steel lines, but I have never seen one.

Will this be applicable in a commercial coffee shop, or it is too slow?

I was initially very pleased with ekobrew, that brewed an excellent cup of coffee. Now I barely get half a cup of coffee. Anyone else experience any issues and if so, do you have any suggestions?

+Kelly Shea I would try to clean my machine -- they sell descaling solution at walmart etc, but I would probably just use vinegar -- just google
I would also change any filters -- I have a filter in my water receptacle
If you have hard water, which builds up and may plug up the needle in the machine, you may need to clean monthly or so. That's why they tell you to use bottled water, which is probably bad advice since even that may be nothing more than tap water. I have a Brita water filter that I use for fresh water.

+Greg P Thank you. It did help to use the vinegar and water. But still have trouble with the EKoBrew. Maybe putting the wrong amount of ground coffee into the ekobrew Elite.

Kelly Shea Hello again. Another thing I have also noticed is that if the coffee is ground too finely, the machine seems to have a problem with water being able to percolate (?) thru the coffee grinds in the cup. I think if the grinds are too fine, they get packed together very tightly and water has trouble filtering thru. It works best with a medium grind if I remember correctly (if you are grinding your own coffee). Maybe one more thing you could try.

Kelly Shea If the coffee grinds are ground very finely, maybe try not filling the cup too full, so there is more room for water to percolate thru the grinds.

+Greg P , Hi Greg, Thanks for the tips. But I got so frustrated with the Kureig that I just had to buy a new one and start all over again.

If kcups made their cups like how pilot coffee makes their kcups for the keurig with the soft filter bottom and they were much less wasteful I'd actually look at buying them again til then I'll keep using my reusable cuos, much more financially feasible too
