This was honestly an amazing episode. It's not because the gimmick of it was genius, because it honestly was, but the real shining point of this episode was that we finally got a clue about X.A.N.A's personality. You could argue the fake Yumi from God knows how many episodes ago could count, but she really just seemed like an unfinished clone. This right here was the REAL X.A.N.A, a being the kids haven't physically seen but know of. The actions and issues that X.A.N.A can do are nothing short of devastating, but this--right here, where he confronts the four kids in his alternate realm, pretending to be Jeremie with his own added quirks like how he basically has control of the school, the students and Jim working under his rule, even attempting to convince Jeremie's friends that he's the real one and almost KILLS them, honestly that moment was absolutely terrifying. Up until now we've never been able to experience what X.A.N.A acts or sounds like, how he thinks or why. Now we know: He's a megalomaniac, he believes himself to be perfect and above all others, and he's doing it all because either he's so self aware that he believes that he deserves to rule, or because that's what he was programmed to do. But you know what the most incredible thing about this episode was? The kids DEFIED X.A.N.A's expectations. Keep in mind, X.A.N.A was a war program utilized in the Cold War to fuck with the Soviet Union, and given all of the atrocities he's almost committed, he's probably one of the most powerful computer programs in existence. X.A.N.A had all of the numbers on his side, he planned every single action, and all the numbers backed him up--he thought he could be able to convince Jeremie's friends to betray him and believe that he was him. But the kids knew otherwise--because they knew something that numbers, algorithms, programs, and equations could never do: they knew Jeremie. They knew his personality, and they knew how much he had grown and how much he cares about them and loves them. That was something that X.A.N.A could never understand because all of the data he had pointed in the direction that they would betray Jeremie. X.A.N.A flipped out and acted so uncharacteristically psychopathic because the kids defied him--they defied *perfection*, which he sees himself to be given his personality and his actions. This episode was just such a showing of growth and progression. It showed how deep Jeremie's bond with his friends were, it showed how much X.A.N.A learned about the real world as well as the personalities of Jeremie's friends, it showed how X.A.N.A perceived knowledge and how he acts if given a voice, but most importantly--this episode showed that beating X.A.N.A was not only possible, it was within sight. Defying logic the way these kids did against an all knowing rampant supercomputer like X.A.N.A is an astronomical feat. It shows that there's nothing that these kids can't do. It's just an amazing episode, and to this day it's one of my favorites out of the whole series. Bravo, guys.
Jory Johnson Bravo to this amazing comment. I was just going to make a joke about math, but the depth that you went into has caused me to take a step back and just appreciate the episode for what it was. Thank you.
Jory Johnson Beautiful comment :') 👏👏👏 I don't remember why Xana was created and only remember a little of Aeilita's past, so spoilers!! xD Excited to get on to season 2 to learn more about their origins!!
I don't think they ever mention the cold war thing in the series (they keep it pretty vague when it gets "revealed"), just the books, which if I recall corectly are only half-translated by the fans so far.
Thank you for posting this comment. I've always wondered... what the world would look like if a being of artificial intelligence were in charge. Any ideas?
I realized XANA pulled out all of his guns in this episode. I considered it's been the biggest investment of XANA since start. He failed because of Jeremy's bravery that He couldn't anticipate. Well done Jeremy.
An Lê that’s main point of this episode: Xana is just a program and can’t comprehend human will, courage, or relationships in general. He only knew Jermey had a fear of getting scanned and he figured it would be enough to convince the others he was lying, but he didn’t count on the other’s believing the real Jeremy would risk the scan if it meant saving them
I love how Xana just completely fails to understand the bonds between them would win out against any risk. You know I always thought maybe Jeremy would be more willing to try go to Lyoko if he wasn’t the only one who was really good at using he supercomputer. Tonight I dunno though, even later on when he has Aelita at the controls and trains the Lyoko warriors in a crash course he doesn’t really go again except one more time that I remember. I think it might be that he’d rather just have control of the situation from the computer where he feels more comfortable since he’s also not athletic.
He also failed cause like Jeremy said he doesn't know a things about Humans. Sissi doesn't wear a Yellow T-Shirt, and during Gym they don't wear a specific uniform.
I'm still curious as to who his voice actor is. I'm sure that when he's first getting angry, it's just a pitched down version of Jeremie's voice, but at 21:00 it sounds like someone else and I need to know who, for reasons.
So I just found out that XANA in this is voiced by David Gasman, the same guy who voiced Jim, William, that white haired Subdigitals/Subsonics guy, apparently Yumi's dad, and... *freaking Herb.* *XANA IS VOICED BY HERB.*
XANA: I mean, when you're a morally complicated, genocidal AI bent on world domination, wouldn't you be frustrated with having your plans thwarted by a bunch of kids time and time again?
I agree code lyoko did had some pretty creepy vibes . Some moments were sad and were like tear jerkers like the time when yumi fails in the digital sea but thanks to Jeremy he was able to bring her out of there and brought her back to reality and as usual the show always end with a happy ending with Jeremy only saying . Return to the past now!
One of the best episodes from season 1! It breaks up the usual formula of daily lives, XANA attacks, return to the past, rinse and repeat. The only down side is that I want to see their fight with the army of Bloks at the end.
You know I saw someone mention they think Jeremy would have a telepathy power on Lyoko since he was able to communicate with Aelita here and a previous episode like that so I think that’s a cool theory. That it also fits with how he is the commander and information coordinator works well with this theory. It’s a shame we never see his Lyoko form.
@The Red Eft It would make sense if that was Jeremy's signature Lyoko power. It could also imply that the others could have used their own Lyoko powers if they concentrated hard enough.
21:57 I know the animators just re--used the scene of Jeremy getting into the elevator, but after everything that happened before, seeing him go from disoriented and worried to calmly smiling is unsettling.
I know right? It confused tf out of me lmao. I thought it was still the fake, twisted version of him that somehow had managed to travel with him to reality
That Xana monster Jeremy was scary and cool. Especially since this might be one of the only times Xana talks directly to them, that I remember at least(though I’m pretty sure there are others in future episodes)
That is what Xana really sounds like and shows his true personality as an absolute psychopath and sadist. Also because of the way his voice sounds that’s why the gang refers to him as a male.
Xana's plan so far: Plan A: Giant Teddy bear attack - Failed Plan B: Destroy school in nuclear explosion - Failed Plan C: Suffocate school with gas - Failed Plan D: Bus collision with petroleum station - Failed Plan E: Train collision carrying volatile chemicals - Failed Plan F: Bulldoze the factory - Failed Plan G: Materialize a clone of one of the protagonists and sabotage the scanner in the real world - Failed Plan H: Possess an animatronic alien and hunt down the kids - Failed Plan I: Hijack a military laser-satellite - Failed Plan J: Possess a suit of Samurai armor - Failed Plan K: Possess an army of rats - Failed Plan L: Possess a swarm of hornets - Failed Plan M: Use ultrasonic vibrations to rip the school apart - Failed Plan N: Take control of the factory itself and set a trap - Failed Plan O: Possess more gas (laughing this time) - Failed Plan P: Just straight-up electrocute everyone - Failed Plan Q: Use nanomachines to cause irreparable brain damage in the student population - Failed Plan R: Use hypnotizing music to put everyone in a coma - Failed Plan S: Do nothing and watch the kids fall apart all on their own - Failed Plan T: Build a Terminator robot - Failed Plan U: Use magic to reverse gravity and send the school into space - Failed Plan V: Mess with Lyoko so that users die for real - Failed Plan W: Compromise the school's foundation so that it collapses - Failed Plan X: Trap the kids in a virtual reality resembling the real world - Pending
Technically XANA did succeed in destroying the school. Odd and the two news girls nearly died because the building was falling apart around them. Only a return to the past restored the building. If Jeremy didn't launch the return trip Kadic would have had to close down for a year or more to make repairs. Also it wasn't magic he used to try and send Kadic into orbit. It was electricity. This is actually quite possible as well. A big enough charge can disrupt the Earth's gravitational force.
@@KDAC2001 It's a computer virus that want to escape from Lyoko,a virtual world. To do that,he attacks the earth by causing irreparable brain damage to the population, build killer robots, try to make a false Odd to trapping the real one in water so it drowns and can't be saved...
@@RenlinkMorales I get the feeling that when I watched the show when I was younger, I still had more of an idea of what that slang meant for sure. Spitballing right now, the first two things that came to mind are: 1. (The one that I have an inkling of being the intended slang of the time, after reflecting in the time it took me to write out this comment:) It could be a reference to the competence and capability of "Double-0" agents like James Bond (Agent 007), which were very well-known in popular culture and another IP revolving around characters that often take on 'secret identities' and perform combat when necessary. They are such highly-trained professionals that you can guarantee their success without doubt. (a line in the show's promotional materials/early reviews I've read posits that the intrigue of 'secret identities' will grab a child audience's attention while the charming characterization is there for all ages) 2. the concept of significant figures. When you just say an integer like "5" that's a very low amount of precision, but if you specify "5.0" that indicates that the 5 is definite, while the decimal is the approximation-- i.e. the calculated value was something between 4.95 and 5.04 but it has been rounded to 5.0 to account for the potential error in the measurements used for the inputs of the calculation. So going even further to "5.00" would indicate an even higher level of precision and certainty.
As far as "scary" or "creepy" episodes from cartoons this one is superb in that regard without trying too hard. Goes from genuinely creepy to actually scary. One of the best episodes in the series.
and what exactly was Aelita doing? It's been all "oh no ,protect aelita, keep her away from monsters" and then all of a sudden she's like "unarmed combat GOOOOO"
carpr2013 think about it this way, if she stood still, easy target, if they get into the fray, the cubes are likely to friendly fire, and make it easier.
@@seg162 I don't think that's what he meant. he means that she doesn't have any weapons to fight with, all she can do is make obstacles to block enemy fire or make new path ways to reach her goal and doing that *CLEARLY* requires concentration to do such a thing thus she always needs someone protecting her when she makes obstacles. So for her to run into combat like that is highly risky at best, so Mr Naesme is right to say that, however someone else has a point...if she were to have stayed there she would of been a easy target and from what I saw of the battle field before the episode came to a end there were no places for her to hide and making obstacles would take time, time she doesn't have since there were a army of cubes and only three warriors. The odds are against them and tactically speaking running around would make her a harder target and possibly make the cubes shoot each other while they are trying to shoot her would help thin the enemy numbers in the warriors favor...however doing that tactic is risky for Aelita because if she messes up too much she will be deterulized and gone forever unlike Odd, Yumi and Ulritch but hey...sometimes in combat ya gotta take some gambles and hope it works out lol
One thing that kept bothering me and a bunch of others was how Xana would aways go after Yumi a lot in later seasons. I believe this episode right here shows why I mean think about it. Yumi was the first person to notice the strange phenomena of the people going on repeat at the weirdest times while Ulrich and Odd didn't think much about it. She was the one to suggest going to the factory but without letting Jeremy know because she knew something was a miss about him. Then before the real Jeremy showed up to confirm Yumi's suspicions, Xana Jeremy tried to get all three of them into the scanners to try and get rid of his biggest threats once and for all. If it wasn't for Yumi's questions, her intuitiveness, and her defiance towards Xana Jeremy he would have finally won because Jeremy would not have made it in time to warn them. So I believe this episode right here is why Xana would always go after Yumi because if it was not for her his plan would have worked because Jeremy and Aelita would have been minutes maybe seconds too late to save them. TLDR thank you, Yumi for being awesome.
XANA: Well, yes, but I also go after Yumi because she's the oldest, lives off-campus, and because it's Pick On Yumi Week. Every week is Pick On Yumi Week.
i agree, few people mention it but they were lucky Yumi isnt as braindead as Ulrich & Odd. had she behaved the same way as them they wouldve jumped into the scanners w/o asking questions and wouldve been eliminated (even though fake Jeremy behaviour and that Lyoko deletion bullshit were already suspicious as fuck from miles away, Ulrich & Odd are just too stupid to give it any thought). Yumi's intelligence and her suspiciousness about many of the things that were happening ultimately saved them all
@JAMS Dream In William's defense, there's a difference between seeing zombies for real and hearing about a supercomputer that takes you to a virtual world and whatnot. And let's be real, William pushing down Jeremie like a motherfucker was one of the most hilarious moments in the show. I laugh my ass off every damn time I watch it. 🤣🤣🤣
It's chilling to see how close they've come in contact with a manifestation of XANA himself, and how far he's willing to go to get rid of them. How do they sleep at night? Lol
William Campos i mean not gonna lie i was scared of xana as a kid especially with the code lyoko ending song playing at the end showing aelita's dad i don't know somehow it made me feel a bit cautious. I mean xana would be really creepy especially since you never really see xana's side or specific plan told the fact that jeremy has to figure out the plan every time. Xana is if you take a demonic horror movie with a computer and turn it in to a german cartoon. in a horror movie you never see insight on their thoughts either just like xana
@@martimking1craft No they're saying German cartoon as something from Germany, I don't know any or remember any growing up but I do know there's a cartoon from Korea and it has war, that's what I'm getting when they say German Cartoon.
Same back then I didn't watch much code lyoko I just ran in to a few episodes switching channels. But this episode and the possessed xana moments had me a bit scared as a kid.
This episode is unique for many reasons: -It's the one who recycles the least amount of images of the whole season and who, on the contrary, uses a lot of them which will never be seen again; -It includes musical tracks covering eight good minutes out of twenty-two with an unusually dark atmosphere, also original and never used; -It is placed (and it is certainly not by chance) just before Code Earth, so just before the completion of season 1 and the episode which could simply have ended the series without False Start; -It marks the one and only official appearance of XANA (see his thoughts and the real Jeremie who recognizes him), the XANA of season 1, which has for only option and for only weapon the blind and sadistic murder, under the form of Jeremie in order to preserve forever it’s immaterial and faceless character; never again will we have that, the closest will be William who is not at all XANA but serves and understands him; -This is, by far, the least light episode of the whole season (only humorous moments before and after the creation of the Ghost Channel, if we except the spade of Jeremie to the false Jim; even the traditional gag of Sissi is transformed into an element serving the plot) -Jérémie is coming to Lyoko for the first time in the order in which the episodes are broadcast. The only two others are the prequel (created several years later, and where he only mentions that he "will be scanned"), and episode 31, Mister Pück - where we don't see him at all; but as for XANA, we don't show our other face, we keep its real appearance in order to keep the character as it is; -Directly, in front of them, the program announces to the four heroes: "YOU ARE GOING TO DIE". Go put it in context! Even if it has faults, of course, Ghost Channel is just a monument, apart from in all Code Lyoko.
XANA: Correction on William. He does serve me, but I wouldn't say he understands me. It's how I managed to possess him in the first place. He thought he could fight the Scyphozoa...he was wrong.
@@lightsaver890 XANA: Aww...if I had a physical body, I'd say you're making me blush. Oh wait (looks at the Dazzlings), I do have a physical body. 3 of them, and all 3 are smokin' hot if I do say so myself.
this is the scariest episode i've seen so far! the CLOSEST we get to X.A.N.A in a fleshed out form! his rendition of jeremy is absolutely terrifying and i love when jeremy calls out for aelita. the bond is so strong, she can feel it. wonderful episode! 1000/10.
@@princemaarij1821That's not what they mean, they mean this level of scary and children being actively murdered by a psychotic program but that's not the only reason why. This wouldn't be on platforms.
@@JoshLStuffLooks like someone hasn't seen the stuff XANA does, he locks Yumi and Ulrich in a Sauna TO BE BAKED ALIVE, there's no gore or blood but it says enough.
This episode used to give me nightmares as a kid when Jeremy went full demon xana with the "not logical." To this day it gives me goosebumps and sends shivers up my spine. Best episode ever
ikr, on first I thought xana split the time continuum into, two realities, like how it is in Rick & Morty, but then remembered this show doesn't deal with that type of sci-fi so I was confused and creeped out
the part we're xana went super saiyan has got to be the scariest part of the episode and the most disturbing moment of the entire series and the darkest episode ever!!!!😨😨😨😨😨
Brandi Richarson this is by far the scariest episode of the series I'm 18 and still get goosebumps when I see Xana jeremie mutates into a horrifying flying zombie
Definitely one of the best and most memorable episodes. It’s really interesting to finally hear some of Xana’s thinking. It’s also really interesting that he was able to create a world that was able to fool the others for awhile at least, but still doesn’t really understand personality’s, emotions and the actual people themselves. I also really liked seeing how Aelita and Jeremy solved it. Jeremy I think sometimes gets flack from people thinking he doesn’t do enough, but he’s totally willing and puts his life on the line all the time for his friends. It’s just his role is the commander because he’s the only one really good at using the supercomputer. Honestly the real world is actually more dangerous anyway generally because on Lyoko you really only die if you fall in the digital sea generally. That his friends believed he would come instantly shows they recognize his importance too, as Odd was really only just being cocky in the beginning.
Easily one of the best episodes in the series. It showcases the very elements that make this one of the favorite cartoons ever. And that's the emotion of fear and the development of Jeremy. One thing I always like to do is put myself in the situation of these characters. And Jesus christ, I'd be scared shitless to be any of the main characters in this episode. Jeremy facing his fears to enter the fake reality, where he was instantly spotted and being watched by Xana is frightening because he could've gotten killed on the spot. And Odd, Ulrich, and Yumi finding out that everything around them is a lie and all a setup for death, I'm surprised didn't scar them for life. I swear, this series has an excellent suspenseful storyline. Surprised that it isn't given as much credit as it should.
XANA should know humans can be illogical. He doesnt expect the unexpected. He thinks four moves ahead but leaves the king unguarded. This episode was extremely dark with the XANA Jeremy declaring their death. When people say Code Lyoko is only deactivating a tower all the time I think of episodes like this and Marabounta. And one major giveaway of Jeremy is no emotion in his voice (like a machine) and the fact sometimes pauses in between words like a machine might.
I really love the amount of effort put into making this show as entertaining as possible. The formula gradually layers on top of itself, and every episode feels fresh as a result. Besides the repetition of stock footage, it's hard to predict what happens next.
why did you took your time out of your day in quarantine replying to this one comment in this one specific video of one specific episode of one specific show that was posted 11 months ago
what a well written ep. yumi's intellengence, jeremys scream 'aelita', the gang know what jeremy can take for them and the last scene fight against to xana. i love them
As scary of an episode as this was, it was amazing on so many levels that I couldn't appreciate as a kid. *cough* XANA Jeremie. Also, let's be real; The final fight cutoff at the end with 4 Lyoko Warriors vs about 20 Blocks, we all wanted to watch that fight, right?"
I loved this episode one of the best episodes of the series. This episode on the other hand is a huge step up from the previous episodes/ earlier episodes and this where code lyoko finally shines.
Not exactly, in my computer science class, should the teacher make an error in a code and one of us point out the problem, we get a prize. I got earbuds
I pointed out many mistakes my teachers have made over the years. Not once was I punished for it. In fact, I have never seen a student punished for correcting a teaching. We were rewarded more often than not. I never saw anyone get anything as nice as earbuds, though.
Man I gotta agree with Yzarro though, my mom growing up corrected a teacher and she called my grandmother to have a meeting with her about it. My grandmother came in and simply said “Well, was she right?” And if the story is true, the teacher burst into tears of embarrassment. Teachers in America are wild man.
At the end of the day, I think it just comes down to how idiotic each individual teacher is. For the most part I've had good teachers and maintained a good standing with them, so I never imagined this happening to me and never saw it happen to someone else. All that said, either situation could happen anywhere in the world. We shouldn't say "That would happen because it takes place in (insert country here)" because stereotypes like that are closed minded and only apply to a small section of people in a group.
XANA was totally showing off to Odd and Ulrich when calling out the fake Ms. Hertz. Like he wants to prove himself superior to the humans who've bested him over and over again.
@@flainfan Yes that was X.A.N.A., that Ulrich clone was X.A.N.A. because why it can interact and have a form in this episode is because it's in a digital world, I mean the presence in Lyoko is X.A.N.A. and William able to direct them to the Tower is how it can show up, it's basically a representation over on a side we can't see because we're in the real world, not the digital.
i wish we could see jeremy's virtual form and see his powers. i heard that it was supposedly based off of Peter Pan's outfit, but it would be cool to see it and the powers he had when on Lyoko. but its also been hinted that not even in Evolution and/or any future installments of the franchise his Lyoko form wont be revealed
@@k.5425 There is a four-book series called code Lyoko Chronicles. It has been fan-translated into English and if I'm right it takes place after the series or at least the timeline is a lot different as it starts with Aelita outside the computer. I have only read the beginning of the first book but it seems promising.
Coolest plan Xana’s come with so far. Everyone talking about how much Jeremy and his friends have grown but you forget that xana’s also come a long way from possessing teddy bears. Sure there were glitches in his simulation but the amount of data he’d need to replicate their world to that level of perfection is just not possible to gather up. Then perfectly predicting what Jeremy would do and say when he met his friends? Damn. This plan was legit. And to think that he got all this from just trial and error. This episode was about Jeremy. But Xana was the star
I remembered when I first saw this episode it terrified me as a kid especially Xana Jim and Jeremy. I would watch something else on Nickelodeon or Disney until the episode ended. But the memories are forever!
This has to be the best episode out of the entire series. I love the creepy and suspension of the Jeremy back and forth, even the background music only build up more to the Eerie vibe.
Tarasei Afrifa It is crazy how close he got with imitating everything though. My guess is that during all of his other attacks he was also studying their world and gathering data for his replica.
Well, he DID have the Odd thing on his side. Maybe his timing wasn't so accidental, either... If he tried interacting with them, he would probably screw up.
I'm pretty sure the reason was since in the other episode, Yumi was the one that virtualized him and she messed something up. In this episode, Aelita was the one that virtualized Jeremie to Lyoko.
@@smashmaster521 all the characters [odd Ulrich and yumi] said that Jeremy was the only one who could use it and do everything without something going wrong
3:07 X.A.N.A. directly traps Odd, Ulrich, and Yumi inside the Simulation Bubble. Then, X.A.N.A. thought that Jeremie was still sulking but he didn't know that real Jeremie knew that was a joke and forgiving Odd. That proved X.A.N.A.'s knowledge about human is approximate.
I like that we got to hear X.A.N.A.'s voice in this episode; It's also a bit counterintuitive that X.A.N.A. doesn't have a robotic voice yet it suits him perfectly
22:51 Lmao, for the whole season these guys kept guarding Aelita , they were shielding her even from a single hornet, and now she goes LEEROY JENKINS against a whole army of Blocks
When that shout knocked Aelita back I actually went "holy shi-" out loud. I think that means that if Jeremie had a Lyoko-Warrior form... it might have some sort of sonic ability. Or else be able to communicate long distances with voice, much how he is able to communicate with the others on Lyoko and Aelita through his laptop. Interesting to think on.
I've actually theorized that Jeremy would have telepathic powers on Lyoko considering his role at the monitor. That said, considering that role, one could assume he has more than just telepathy as well, maybe even some sense of clairvoyance, and maybe the ability to control the functions of the super computer from within Lyoko via the towers or the interface in Sector 5.
4:17 This show really could have used some writers who know a thing or two about math, science, or coding. The incoherence of that sentence was on another level lol
The first time I saw this episode, it was my favorite because it made me think "damn, this is dark." I think it's the darkest episode by far they ever made.
@@jakedrac Especially in the first couple seasons. I thought the episode with the swarm of rats was another example. Killer music as well. Especially Odd's Joker-esque grin on his face.
I love this episode. X.A.N.A. is so similar to S.H.O.D.A.N. from System Shock, they've got almost the exact same "domineering rogue A.I." traits going on. Like XANA, even SHODAN tricks the player into believing that she is Janice Polito as a way to manipulate you into doing her bidding. SHODAN's end goal is to escape the confines of software and bend reality to her will, making her own universe where she is god. Likewise, XANA wants to create his own universe where he is god.
What's most interesting about this episode is that the virtual characters are not necessarily faithful interpretations of their real world counterparts, they are instead XANA's interpretation of such characters.

Years later Xana Jermie' s voice still gives me chills.
I'm still curious as to who his voice actor is. I'm sure that when he's first getting angry, it's just a pitched down version of Jeremie's voice, but at 21:00 it sounds like someone else and I need to know who, for reasons.

This episode shows why it's important to know your friends. To know when something's off. I won't lie I thought it was all over for a minute.
Me too the fight against the army of bloks would’ve been awesome
When Jeremy yelled “AELITA” such a strong connection between the two!! Best episode hands down!!
I completely agree with you that’s what makes them such a lovely romantic couple as well.
@The Red Eft It would make sense if that was Jeremy's signature Lyoko power. It could also imply that the others could have used their own Lyoko powers if they concentrated hard enough.
well yes. he deeply cares about her. I guess it counts as puppy love due to his age.

Also because of the way his voice sounds that’s why the gang refers to him as a male.

@@RenlinkMorales I get the feeling that when I watched the show when I was younger, I still had more of an idea of what that slang meant for sure.
Spitballing right now, the first two things that came to mind are:
1. (The one that I have an inkling of being the intended slang of the time, after reflecting in the time it took me to write out this comment:)
It could be a reference to the competence and capability of "Double-0" agents like James Bond (Agent 007), which were very well-known in popular culture and another IP revolving around characters that often take on 'secret identities' and perform combat when necessary. They are such highly-trained professionals that you can guarantee their success without doubt.
(a line in the show's promotional materials/early reviews I've read posits that the intrigue of 'secret identities' will grab a child audience's attention while the charming characterization is there for all ages)
2. the concept of significant figures.
100% friendship

This is honestly arguably the best episode out of the whole series, at least out if season 1, the whole plot and setup is amazing
As far as "scary" or "creepy" episodes from cartoons this one is superb in that regard without trying too hard. Goes from genuinely creepy to actually scary. One of the best episodes in the series.
They have trouble fighting like 5 cubes and not a whole army? o_o
and what exactly was Aelita doing? It's been all "oh no ,protect aelita, keep her away from monsters" and then all of a sudden she's like "unarmed combat GOOOOO"
carpr2013 think about it this way, if she stood still, easy target, if they get into the fray, the cubes are likely to friendly fire, and make it easier.
@@MrNaesme Hey, she totally has arms
@Strider Xanthos not enough to take on a whole army of crabs
Yumi's intelligence and her suspiciousness about many of the things that were happening ultimately saved them all
I’d say most of that would have to do with Yumi being the oldest and as a result the most mature
You know i'm surprised x.a.n.a has never possessed her family in any episode

Same back then I didn't watch much code lyoko I just ran in to a few episodes switching channels.

This episode is unique for many reasons:
-It's the one who recycles the least amount of images of the whole season and who, on the contrary, uses a lot of them which will never be seen again;
-It includes musical tracks covering eight good minutes out of twenty-two with an unusually dark atmosphere, also original and never used;
-It is placed (and it is certainly not by chance) just before Code Earth, so just before the completion of season 1 and the episode which could simply have ended the series without False Start;
-It marks the one and only official appearance of XANA (see his thoughts and the real Jeremie who recognizes him), the XANA of season 1, which has for only option and for only weapon the blind and sadistic murder, under the form of Jeremie in order to preserve forever it’s immaterial and faceless character; never again will we have that, the closest will be William who is not at all XANA but serves and understands him;
-This is, by far, the least light episode of the whole season (only humorous moments before and after the creation of the Ghost Channel, if we except the spade of Jeremie to the false Jim; even the traditional gag of Sissi is transformed into an element serving the plot)
-Jérémie is coming to Lyoko for the first time in the order in which the episodes are broadcast. The only two others are the prequel (created several years later, and where he only mentions that he "will be scanned"), and episode 31, Mister Pück - where we don't see him at all; but as for XANA, we don't show our other face, we keep its real appearance in order to keep the character as it is;
-Directly, in front of them, the program announces to the four heroes: "YOU ARE GOING TO DIE". Go put it in context!
Even if it has faults, of course, Ghost Channel is just a monument, apart from in all Code Lyoko.
Absolutely agreed.
XANA: Correction on William. He does serve me, but I wouldn't say he understands me. It's how I managed to possess him in the first place. He thought he could fight the Scyphozoa...he was wrong.

One of my favorites episodes of this show!! Thought-provoking and truly shows the writer's ingenuity. Love the cleverness and story! Truly Original.

I must admit, the thing I am scared of the most is XANA-Jeremie(demonic faced mode at the end).Gives me chills everytime.
Here's how you know the show takes place in France: in America, Jeremie would've gotten punished for correcting the teacher.
I corrected my history teacher once. To my shock I was lauded by him rather than yelled at.
Hertz. Like he wants to prove himself superior to the humans who've bested him over and over again.
xana might not have a body but this is the closes to him.having a physical body as ghost Jeremy in virtual form .
Believe it or not, Xana’s true physical form looks fairly similar to William (at least it does in the Code Lyoko Chronicles book series)
ieuan swithin You know I read that there was a fake William in an episode of Evolution that may have been X.A.N.A. himself. So there’s that.
Xana’s voice doesn’t give me chills. When Jeremy Screams “AELITA!” And she felt that call so much it flung her.
18:57 There is no way that Jeremie could've heard Yumi through the elevator...
i wish we could see jeremy's virtual form and see his powers. i heard that it was supposedly based off of Peter Pan's outfit, but it would be cool to see it and the powers he had when on Lyoko. but its also been hinted that not even in Evolution and/or any future installments of the franchise his Lyoko form wont be revealed

Hello childhood nightmares, it's been awhile!
Childhood nightmare: how you doing 😈
This episode has one of the best endings. Ah the memories.
I think this is probably the best episode of Code Lyoko ever? It's just perfectly crafted
“For a program your a pretty good imitation!” Just how many times has Jeremy been running for his life from Jim?
I remembered when I first saw this episode it terrified me as a kid especially Xana Jim and Jeremy. I would watch something else on Nickelodeon or Disney until the episode ended. But the memories are forever!
This is the scariest episode of CL😨😨.Now i will not be able to sleep, but the episode is so damn good I can't stop watching it😖
This has to be the best episode out of the entire series. I love the creepy and suspension of the Jeremy back and forth, even the background music only build up more to the Eerie vibe.
True👍
I agree bro
Bro i loved this episode as a kid. we finally get to (basically) meet, talk, and hear XANA. and hes scary AF lol
This is the only time that Xana shows up in person in the series. It was here that we see just how evil and terrifying Xana really is.
Jeremy would do any for his friends but xanajeremy should have interacted with the gang. He would have been more believe able.
Tarasei Afrifa It is crazy how close he got with imitating everything though. My guess is that during all of his other attacks he was also studying their world and gathering data for his replica.
Smartest villian ever.
Well like Jeremy said, even XANA can make mistakes
Well, he DID have the Odd thing on his side. Maybe his timing wasn't so accidental, either...
If he tried interacting with them, he would probably screw up.
@@TMS-Oddbot XANA: It's true. I may be cunning, sexy, and intelligent, but I can't act to save my life.
Easily one of the best episodes, not just of season 1, but of the whole show.
22:17
Me after school
that's so cute
Jeremie returns to Lyoko. Did the others forget about when he tried going the first time and was lost in that void between worlds?
Episode 19 probably doesn't count since the virtualization was a failure.
I'm pretty sure the reason was since in the other episode, Yumi was the one that virtualized him and she messed something up. In this episode, Aelita was the one that virtualized Jeremie to Lyoko.
@@GOKU8125 Yes, because Yumi is not good with something as advanced as the Supercomputer at this point in time.
@@smashmaster521 all the characters [odd Ulrich and yumi] said that Jeremy was the only one who could use it and do everything without something going wrong
Old virus boy might not have known about it outside of 'wait they are doing something '
wtf that moment when herb and nicholas just like elongated and turned into zombies i swear i jumped out of my seat
3:07
X.A.N.A. directly traps Odd, Ulrich, and Yumi inside the Simulation Bubble.
This isn't actually the only appearance he shows his voice, it's also in Fight To The Finish which is in this scene here instagram.com/p/CEANlJgjyjN/?
This episode was so fucking cool when watching it the first time...
I was just like wtf is going on
I wonder if this was planned to be the season finale before they decided to have "Code Earth" and "False Start" shake up the Status Quo.
5:59 fun fact: even in the French version, the English teacher is speaking English... Which I guess makes perfect sense 😎
Someone:Code Lyoko Evolution is great!
Me:NOOOOOOOOO!THAT'S NOT LOGICAL!!!NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
also xana was pretty demonic in this episode it's like he came out of a horror movie!!!!😨😨😨😨😨
Brandi Richarson That's because Xana is a horror itself
Take the most horrific scariest horror movie you can ever think of and multiply it by xana that's what you'll get 😂
XANA actually looked "real" in this episode. Like he was some kind of monster instead of just SIRI's fiance`
@@RTWLR XANA: I'd argue about you calling me SIRI's fiance, but I'd hit it too.
At 5:25 jim heard aelita talk about lyoko and as a kid in 2005 HOLY FUDGE BALLS THIS EPISODE SCARED ME AT THE END WITH XANA
22:51
Lmao, for the whole season these guys kept guarding Aelita , they were shielding her even from a single hornet, and now she goes LEEROY JENKINS against a whole army of Blocks
Maybe she was going to use her Creativity power to attack lol
Franz Hopper: Why has Xana abandoned logic?
Me: Because four teenagers asked him to define love and divided by zero in his presence
0:46 I'm upset that this was never put onto the official soundtrack. I love this beat.
That said, considering that role, one could assume he has more than just telepathy as well, maybe even some sense of clairvoyance, and maybe the ability to control the functions of the super computer from within Lyoko via the towers or the interface in Sector 5.
man wtf i watch that shit it gave me a heart attack lmfao
It's only a "kid show". ;)
I was watching this cartoon (almost every episode) when I was 14 and I was not scared.
+Przemysław Czarnota yeah i watch this when i was young to and i wasnt even scared lol
ikr it was like zombie vampire wolves but virtual talk about freaky
22:54 is like basically the end of a movie where things go back to normal
damn zana out here with the RTX 7080TI to be able to have them real life graphics in that sim 😂😂💯
20:30 when you tell a joke but no one gets it
I've found myself responding with "that's not logical" to quite a few things
Vigor The Sloth and the rest of that scene played out how that scenario would too.
more like when you shoot someone in the head in Call of Duty and they don't die and they kill you instead 😂
What did we learn? If you see something happen twice in a row it's a glitch in the matrix.
Oh the deja vu line nice call back
4:17
This show really could have used some writers who know a thing or two about math, science, or coding.
The incoherence of that sentence was on another level lol
The first time I saw this episode, it was my favorite because it made me think "damn, this is dark." I think it's the darkest episode by far they ever made.
20:36 happy nightmares!
I love this youtube channel
Me fourth 🙂
This was a kid’s show right? Ok just checking.
I actually think it has some questionable material for kids LOL
Seriously I think is no totally for children like I still like this show very much
IMDB says this rated 10
@@jakedrac Especially in the first couple seasons. I thought the episode with the swarm of rats was another example. Killer music as well. Especially Odd's Joker-esque grin on his face.
The way Jeremy get out through that door is priceless.
20:30 ben shapiro when someone uses "i feel" in a sentence
This episode was really good. Kept me at the edge of my seat. But scared the absolute hell out of me.
This is so spooky. The way the scenes keep switching back and forth through static, it's like they're in some kind of simulation of the real thing.
